What happened to your car? If it is not too serious I'm sure we can get it going again. We'd hate for you to miss the Run. I know it realyl sucks when a Fiero breaks down but it is usually something pretty minor in my experience.

according to the mechanic its just the ignition. but im really not comfortable driving the car that far. i have only had the car about a month and im still not used to its little problems and stuff yet. theres stuff about the car that is bothering me. the idle is bad, theres oil on the spark plugs, suspension sounds loose, etc...i got a little over excited about making it to the run...and its just not going to happen. I really wanted to go too...I can probably go, but i wont be bringing the Fiero, and that would defeat the whole point.

Bring a different car, no big deal. Others do. Come hang out with us.

That is true.. .Fieros are optional. We're not bringing a Fiero this year.

Did your car just die? It is most likely a coil or ignition module. In either case, it is a 5 minute fix and not very expensive.

it just died right on the freeway when i was going 70 MPH...the car was on cruise control and i was going up a small hill...it just died right there...i pulled over, shut it off and it started right back up again...i got it up to 40 MPH and it died again...this time it just turned over and didnt start...the mechanic didnt say which part it was, he just said it was $90 to fix it...ill call tomorrow and find out specifically what it was...might still come, but it doesnt seem like it will be as fun without the Fiero...

I'll bet $100 it's an ignition module. Common problem, based on the symptoms.

The fact that it started back up is a little worrisome. Usually when a module dies it is just dead. But that is exactly how my last one died.. 70mph on the interstate and then nothing. I have also had coils come and go, but they usually just die too... I would guess that this is a $20 fix and you can do it yourself.

My opinion is that I would rather come without a Fiero than not come at all.. But you do what you feel is best. If we can help get you on the road we will. We like meeting new folks. We have had other vehicles in the line every year. We're bringing Rie's new Reatta this year and I hope a couple of guys show up with their new Solstices... And we can't forget Spddy's Lambo.

Let us know what we can do.

When the (almost) exact same thing happened to me, it was a loose connector on the coil. Plugged it back in right and the car was fine and has been since.

I thought it was common for all fiero owners to keep a coil and ignition module spares in the car at all times.
And now as these little buggers get older im thinking about keeping a ecm handy too.

When my module was going out my car quit twice going 70+ in the left lane (of course!) south on 680, but it restarted both times as I was slowing and moving to the right. It was fine the next time I drove it, then quit twice again going south on 101 with the caravan on the way to the 2003 Coast Run. We cruised into the King City Kragen where Fierobear and Spddy replaced the ignition module and rotor cap. I was told this was common and most drivers carry a spare module. I guess I won't expect to get 211,XXX miles out of this one! The coil was recently replaced for this trip since I was advised it looked a little ragged at 215,500. I'm knocking on wood now! It sounds like you have some other issues too, but we'd love to meet you either way!

There has been many times I went to club meetings Fiero-less but I still had a good time. I've learned so much from just showing up and hanging around those who have been there, done that with this little car. Truth is, it's about the people behind the cars just as much as the car itself. Come anyways...Fiero or not!

Dale, I've seen them fail more than one way. I've had one go on me intermittantly, like he describes, and I've had them fail utterly, where the car just "goes silent".

What time are your Northern folk planning to get into San Simeon? It doesn't sound like ya'll will be leaving early enough to meet us in Paso Robles. Are we going for ribs on Friday night?

I can't speak for everyone, but Mary and I hope to leave at around noon, so we can meet you at Arco in Paso Robles.

How far is it for you? We're leaving here at 1:00 and have several people meeting us along the way. It will take us about 2 tp 2.5 hours to get to Paso. But the more people we can meet up with the better in my opinion. The caravan is half the fun.

I fairly certain I will be.That is my plan anyway.I'm leaving friday about noon with Fierobear and I guess we are meeting Dale in paso Robles.

Banned name I refered to is foolishmouse. It was a short lived experiment.Common knowlege.

I don't remember how many miles, but I'm pretty sure it's about a 3 hour drive.

Dale:

Got the info into to your database last night and you can count Lisha and I in for dinner.

I have brought it up to the "sitters" and they will be getting back to me shortly. If they don’t get back by the 1st, ( & they have been informed on the importance of this ) they are going to be SOL on dinner, and will have to go next door or what not for chow.

Started the car last night, and about rolled onto the ground with the latest "stuff" going on with it. There are nay-sayers, but they can be forgiven. They just don’t know what they are missing at all. What a rush...

I’m headed North to Sacramento here in about 3o, to take the LSIT tomorrow morning. I will be back late tomorrow evening.
Wish me luck, and I hope to have an answer for you on their dinner no later than Sunday.

Sorry guys about all the last quick little quotes that I put out there.. But, I need to get ahold of the people listed below before the end of tonite (Friday 10-28-05), and if they are anything like me, or the few people I know, they don't read their PM's until like 2 months later! At least this way, they ** may ** have a chance to see it before hand.

Or, if you know the email address of any of the people listed, anyone else wanna PM me, that would work, too!

Nope.. That will work! I have to send all you on the list something from my work. When you get it, you'll realize why I couldn't talk on the phone about it, because you need the piece of paper to get in the door!

I got the Fiero back today...ITS ALIVE!!!....the mechanic said the ignition module looked like the original one from the factory which wouldnt surprise me...im not sure the guy i bought the car from knew what he was doing...anyways...so i got the car back...the mechanic said to replace the coil, distributor cap, and rotor as well...so i got the coil today and installed it..and ill be getting the rotor and cap next week...i may need help with that one...never done a rotor AND cap, just cap. Is there an install post somewhere i can look at, or can someone just walk me through it?...Also, PEP BOYS sucks...why dont they hire people who know cars anymore? I asked if the MSD coil i had picked was the right one at the parts counter and the guy said, according to this, we dont have an MSD coil for your car!...Could have fooled me, I picked up the right one as soon as I walked through the door...he tried to tell me i needed a giant ACCEL universal coil that wasnt even close to mine...totally wrong connectors...3 times the size of the one I knew was right....! IDIOTS!...SO...It looks like we might be making the run after all...if not in the Fiero, then at least in the mazda...But we wont be up until Saturday..I have to work Friday night...
