A question about the radios:

What kind should those that DONT have one look into getting so that we / they / myself actually can find out whats going on?
Links to sites with the radios would be great as well or locations that we can pick them up locally might be better - time is getting really close!

Allen,
Probably the fastest place to get a radio is Radio Shack. That's where I got mine. You can get a 6 mile set for $29.95 on sale now.Go to radioshack.com and look for Catalog #: 21-1917.

For those of you looking for FRS/GMRS radios.....I just bought mine at Costco about 6 weeks ago and was only $40.00
What you get is 2 Motorola 8 mile range radios with push to talk (PTT) microphones, rechargeable batteries and a dual charger base. Also, they are compatible with all FRS/GMRS radios. By the way, my Costco just added another Motorola radio package which is basically the same except it has 10 mile range and is around $60.00 There are other places to buy them though: Fry's, Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, etc.....

Well, certainly if you have an extra one, bring it for someone who doesnt have one. (Im bringing an extra one for whoever needs it)

Roy/Silvermist....okie dokie, I will see you at the big mouse between 12:00-12:30

If $40 is too much, there are less expensive radios that work just fine.

Dale--Dang, I guess I had one of those stupid flashbacks again! It happens once in awhile when I'm up typing in the middle of the night! I guess I got stupid right at the end of my post and it lasted right through turning my computer off and until I was going to bed when I thought, "Now that was really stupid--Dale's leaving on Friday and I'll meet him and my home group in Paseo Robles--I know that!" Glad I mentioned it tho, so I will mail it directly to the hotel. Thanks for the address. Will you be talking to them and mention it? If not I can call and let them know to expect it. I'm still looking for a box the right size. I thought I had several that would work, but they're not quite big enough. Will try to find one tomorrow, mail it Friday, and it should reach there Tues. or Wed.

9 days!! Yippeee!!

We're right down to the wire again this year. We dropped Rie's car off at the paint shop yesterday. Unfortunately we have had no luck finding a replacement for the cracked windshield. ($1700 for a Reatta windshield! Damn these rare cars!) We should have the car back Wednesday afternoon.

Jeannie, I need to talk to Manesh today anyway so I will mention the package, but he knows that I may get packages over there anytime and he just keeps them for me.

It sounds like quite a few caravans are shaping up. That is always the best part of any Run in my opinion. Nothing like seeing a line of Fieros going down the road.

Funny, Lisha & I were at the local Chevron, and there was a Reatta there at the pump. I’m not kiddin' Dale, that thing was a SPITTIN’ IMAGE of yours all the way down to the missing crack in the glass. ( Last we had talked you were taking that critter North to get it replaced. )

Anyhoo, I looked all over the store to see if you were in there, with the exception of the "reading room." While I was filling my 64 oz supertanker of soda, looking all over the place like somebody that’s going to shake down the joint, I noticed that the employees of the store were really staring to watch me.
< not good if your going to hold up the joint, but good if you think that their going to ask for autographs. >

Trying to watch the exit and the store, trying to put soda into the tanker and what not was just too much. I ended up spilling it all over the damn place, and you should have seen the employees when I said "damn" in a pretty good volume. They were more than happy to get help me re-fill the soda, and get the heck out of there ASAP.

Needless to say I saw the owner get into the car shortly, which was not you or Re.

Moral? Don't freak out quickie mart employees, and 64 oz of soda is a PITA to clean up when some fool dumps it all over the counter and assorted lids.

On a Run note – I think that I'm going to check out Costco here this weekend before my card expires, and see about picking up a set of radios. I'm going to get the hotel reservations here shortly as well….I’m still a little behind that.

Yeah Allen, I drove the 5 hours to Spddy's shop to meet the guy who was coming to put in the new windshield and it ended up being the wrong one. And of course, he has had no luck finding the correct one. Most places I have called can't even get it and even GM has discontinued it. Oh, the simple days of finding Fiero parts!

I second that last comment you made.....a long line of Fiero's is a beautiful thing! On the Rally Through The Valley some people actually pulled over and let us by, some of the oncoming traffic yielded to us and let us all pass by, etc....(strength in numbers?) I was a little disappointed at the Westfest run though (by sunday morning a lot of people/cars had already gone home.. (I was hoping we would have had a bigger and more substantial run to Reno.

Yeah West Fest isn't a run it is a show. I like going on the runs better myself but at West Fest the show takes up a lot of time and everyones energy. But still several of us went out in small groups for little excursions to see what kind of trouble we could cause.
Woo Hoo It's almost time. I got new tires and new brakes just tuned it up and an oil change. Came back with .oo hc on the smog test. Damn thing runs awesome. Best 200 dollar fiero I've bought yet.

I'll look at it. Dood we need another fiero like a hole in the head HUH?
Can't check now though I'm just off the tractor and now I need to get some of my tools together to go demolish your house in Hayward.

Man only one week left till the run and so much work that needs to be finished. I need a clone so one of me can go take a nap.

Pittsburgh! My God, could it be cheap enough to make it worthwhile to bring it that far? I've got a stripped down, but great running, Formula that you could get cheaper than that!

Pittsburg, California.

You'd sell me a running Formula cheaper than $200?

Thanks Dale! I scored a great box today and it's all packed up and ready to go out tomorrow. It's pretty heavy. Is it still cheaper to mail heavier things by UPS than the post office?

Agreed! That's one of the best things to me also--driving my car to all our events and an unbroken caravan is the best!! I really enjoyed the WestFest drive. I think that is one of the longest caravans I've been involved in--I think we had 12 Fieros and 2 support vehicles going up and don't remember how many on the run to Tahoe (20?), but yes, I think there were only 6 or 7 of us on the way back since people left at different times, but the radios really help and I think we all stayed together pretty well. There will be a pretty large group of us by the time we all get to Paseo Robles on Friday and head over to the coast. Yeehawww!! 8 days!!!

I always USPS Priority Mail. I've always found it a lot less expensive and more reliable than UPS or FedEx. Priority Mail can go up to 70 pounds and I am sure it isn't close to that! Ten pounds is just $8.40 for Priority Mail.

For the sake of my sanity and not being dangerously tired behind the wheel, I believe my best option is to meet the group for lunch, then run south with you all until the first stop at the Big Sur River Inn, then head home. I'll get in a full day of Fiero driving, get to meet with everyone, and have a decent chance to talk to you all. That, and I won't have to drive home Sat. night or leave San Simeon at 5am Sunday. We'll see how things go, but thats looking like the plan for now.

So I got the car running, and now have a radiator leak, along with oil pressure switch leak... when will it end This is starting to cost me before I get to the run.

Radiator is in to day to be fixed, should get it back later. Off at lunch time to get Oil pressure switch, and tran filter kit, as all the tran fluid is over the floor. Did not plug the line, LOL more work.. This will increase my cost of the car for $750 to $950, and I thought that I had a deal when I purchased the car.

Just about every car I own has a radiator from radiator.com in it. The prices can't be beat and they deliver right to your door. Their prices with shipping are cheaper than I can buy the radiator locally and have it ordered in.

Anyway, Good luck getting these little things fixed. Luckily, they are little things so it sounds like you still have a good deal on the car. And you are definitely in the right place to get answers to any questions you have.

They must be fixing it instead of replacing it. I'm too lazy for all that and I just replace them! haha. Back in my hometown in GA where I knew a good radiator man I used to get them fixed too.

I did get the extra room for folks who were coming alone that wanted to share. Daniel was going to be there alone, but now his dad is coming. I don't know if they want the whole room now or would share. The room has three double beds in it.

I missed Manesh today so I didn't get a final count on how many rooms we have registered. I know we had 25 blocked but I think we are pretty close to that. I got 3 myself!

Is everyone straight on the caravans? Not long left for planning. Can you believe how fast the time goes?

Songman, If someone else needs a room to stay in then they can have the third bed in the room you got me. I dont mind sharing and my dad doesnt either so that would be nice if we filled that third bed and then it would only be 20 dollars a night. So tell anyone that needs a place to stay that they can stay in our room.

It's probably too late but the next time around please check out Radiatorbarn.com I got mine for less than $125.00 to my door. Quality was good and it fit perfect. I dont recall what car you have but mine is an 86 GT auto...
