Anyone know Billy Concepcion? I got his registration for the Coast Run today, but the form said 'No' on all parts of it. I'm just wondering if this is someone we know, and if so, what parts will he be participating in. His registration says he has an 84 Fiero.

Hey, Dale. If you want to try a new restaurant on your scouting trip, Matthew's at the Paso Robles airport is FOUR STAR. It ain't cheap, but it's top notch. Mary and I flew down there last night for dinner (second time there), and it was great.

Sounds great, Goober... The more the better! The money goes to charity, and the prizes just help to make the Coast Run a great event.

Jess, I don't know where he is from. Unfortunately I don't ask for that information on the form.

We'll give that a try sometime, John. For the weekend, we are going to go North and try out Chicken Scratch Flats.. It must be nice to just fly around different places for dinner!

Well, it's about the flying. Lunches and Dinners are just an excuse for somewhere to fly to.

Wahoo! 24 days left!

Golden Gate Fieros had a Coast Run pep rally tonight and Kitskaboodle and I modelled our Ts.

Is it time to start talking about driving plans yet? I'm interested in hooking up with those in the Fresno area going over on Friday. Have you decided where you're leaving from and when?

JC

Jeannie, we are leaving Bakersfield around 1PM on Friday. That will put us in Cholame by the James Dean Memorial about 2:30 and in Paso Robles around 3PM. We normally catch the guys from Hanford at the Memorial. I'm not sure what they are doing this year but it is a straight shot down 41 if you want to do that route.

Dale is right, we usually meet him at the James Dean Memorial. So, that would put us leaving at about 1pm if I'm right. We have to hear from the others leaving too, but we usually meet at our house or somewhere in town then head out. You could come down 43 to Hanford or leave Fresno with the 41 and meet us somewhere in the middle of no where. lol Maybe someone can think of a better place to meet up?

Mcaanda, Sniper, what are your thoughts and such?

I don't know if people from the south is doing the run, but Fieros West Group are probably going to hook up at the shop (West Coast Fieros) around 1 nish otherwise we will hit traffic. I know that Chet (California GT) Roy and I (kooljess) and the guys at the shop (Chris West, Steve, and Roy) are caravaning together. I know for sure that Chet, Roy and I are definately caravaning together. Our route will be the same as last year. We will heading up the 101 to the 1. Anyone down south who is interested in caravaning with us please PM me and I will let you know about the final specifics. See you all there and drive safe.

We usually meet at the Arco station, near where 46 cuts off for the coast in Paso Robles.

If the woman can get off work in time, we are going to caravan with you as well. Seeing how all my vehicles are at least 300+ miles on a tank of gas, I figure this time I'll bring the GSXR. At least that way, every 130 miles or so to fill up should be about in your ball park!

Man, and just thinking.. that's only 4.5 gallon tank! man! What kind of gas mileage did Pontiac have in mind when they built that damn car! ha ha... j/k

Jess, I'm glad you brought that up. I have no idea if any of the WCF guys are coming, or anyone else from that area other than you and Chet. We have 21 people signed up on the page. You and Chet from L.A., 1 from San Diego, me, and the other 17 are from up north. I was thinking about that last night since I am trying to plan for caterers and other such things. it would really be helpful if anyone who is coming would take a minute to fill out the registration form. You think you can help light a fire under anyone from L.A. that is coming, Jess?

Yeah, and we will!! Just talking about before we get to that point. Gldkarma is coming from Fresno so we are trying to decide where to meet them to caravan to the next point.

I was just at the shop today and had lunch with the guys. All I know is that Chris West, Steve, and Roy mentioned that they are going. Chet, Roy Benjamins and I are definately going. I know that Chet and I already registered. As far as Roy Benjamins he hardly log on to Pennocks. But I will email him regarding registration. Sorry I know that's not much help.

Thank Jess... Roy registered this afternoon... That is 22 registered and I have 'heard' that quite a few more are coming... I hope they all understand that I can only go one what I get in registration for planning. I have to pay the caterers up front and I ended up in a situation last year when even people who had signed up decided at the last minute that they didn't want to eat. I hope this doesn't come off as being picky. I just want to make sure everyone that is there has a chance to eat, and also that I don't lose a lot of money.

I am going to send a letter out to all who have registered to make sure they are in for the dinner... I'll probably do that in a week. I have to confirm everything with the caterer so that they can plan.

Okay--I see 41, 43, Hanford, and Cholame. If we can hook up w/anyone leaving Fresno, that would be great, or we can meet up in Hanford too, just let me know the address so I can map it and what time. We've never been to the James Dean Memorial--that would be one more to check off our list. (Bet you've never been to the Hopalong Cassidy Museum--that was a real wild one! )

Thanks Jen and Dale! Just keep me posted as things develop.

There are quite a few Northern folks meeting for lunch on Saturday and just coming down to enjoy the dinner and raffle and spend one night instead of two. The hotel rate works just the same for Saturday-only. Just call and tell them that you are with the Fiero group but will only be staying one night. I'll be posting maps soon showing where everyone should meet.

I would love to, Jess, but we are going somewhere every weekend! We are doing a test run for the Coast Run this weekend. The following weekend we are going to Ventura. The weekend of SEMA, we are going back to San Simeon for the Solstice Run. And the next weekend is the Coast Run... Take lots of good pictures if you go.

Sounds like a plan coming together. Where do you guys want to meet? Might I suggest that Paul, if he wants to do this, meet me somewhere here in Aptos, then we meet you Steven either in Watsonville or Moss Landing? Seems like that would be most efficient for all concerned. Then we make Highway 1 look good all the way down to Monterey and catch up with everyone else. Thoughts?

down to Monterey, turn around, pick me and my MINI up and head back up to Salinas where we're having lunch. Or take the 1 to the 183 and save about half an hour. your choice.

The current weather conditions in San Simeon are 50 degrees and fog. Looking out from my window it looks like it is going to be about like it was for last year's Coast Run. The forecast is Sunny and 64 degrees.

Salinas is showing 49 degrees and fog and the forecast for today show's Mostly Sunny with a high of 66 degrees.

Looks like it is going to be a beautiful day for a drive on the coast. Probably a bit warmer than our November weekend but other than that, much the same.

We'll be leaving here shortly going up the coast scouting stopping points and then trying out Chicken Scratch Flats for lunch...

More later...

aww snap. I could have met you two for lunch if I had gotten up earlier. I'm about 15/20 minutes away. Just went to Jeff's [Stimpy] last night for dinner. Mmm homecooked food. Nothing like it. Oh well... see ya at the run!

I'm pretty excited and I love this run. My little patchwork fiero is ready to go also. She won't have a snazzy paint job but she is now fully dressed. Has all her fenders and the headlights go up and down and everything!!!

Notchies look sexy racy kinda like the neighbors wife. Fastbacks are just sexy, kinda like your own wife. Like a lot of men I like getting in and making them both scream.

Just got home from the test run. It was a bit foggy this time but it will be all cleared off in time for the Run. It was about 60 degrees this time and will probably be about ten less in a few weeks. Good jacket weather, and possibly a little more at night.

The length of the Run this year is 115 miles each way. We have two stops on the way up and then we are going to stop just south of Salinas and let everyone catch up for the 'Fiero parade' through downtown. There are some redlights to contend with but overall it will be pretty cool.

The plan is to meet on the upper deck of the parking deck of the Steinbeck Center between 11:30 and 12:00. The upper deck is to be blocked off and only Coast Run participants can get up there. Once everyone is gathered we will go on down to Chicken Scratch Flats for lunch. It is a nice place and the owner and manager promised to take real good care of us. In the past we have had some trouble getting the checks handled at the end of the meal. None of that this time! At Chicken Scratch Flats, we get menus and find a seat and then when we are ready to order we go to the counter and pay and then we are ready to go when we are finished eating. I think it is going to work out very well. I have a menu that I am going to scan and put up for anyone who wants to download it and plan ahead. The prices are great, as is the food.

On the way out of town, there are a few gas stations to choose from and we have a rally point set up for after everyone fuels up. On the way back down the Coast, we will be stopping at the River Inn again. It was a blast last year and will be again this year I know. There is a particular store there that I have to warn people about when we get there. Wouldn't want any ladies (or gentlemen) to get embarassed by going in there not knowing what to expect! I figure we will stay there about 30-45 minutes before heading out. Anyone who wants to stay longer is more than welcome and they can continue on later. The last scheduled stop is for the sea lions. That always seems to be popular. For people who don't want to stop, it is only about 7 more miles back to the hotel.

We should be back around 4:30-5:00PM. Dinner is 7:30 with the raffle to follow. The indoor pool and spa are open for anyone who wants to partake.

As I mentioned earlier, the hotel is all redone. Every room has new furniture, bigger TVs, new paint... and WIRELESS INTERNET ACCESS! When I was there a couple of months ago it worked, but was not great. This time it worked like a charm! Bring your laptops and post from the Run! (I may have to try to find a way to simulcast the event from the hotel!!)

That's all for now. I have a little piece of video I took today that I am going to put on my site later. I don't know what is up but waves were breaking at about 15 feet this morning! That is about 3-4 times higher than normal. It was awesome to see even though we wondered what was causing it.

More later...

I guess I better take my jacket to the cleaners. It's almost here you all. Hopefully my exhaust system and my exhaust manifold will be installed before then. Our group will be coming up sometime Friday. See you all soon.

Songman......are we going to be using FRS/GMRS radios on the run? I found them to be extremely useful on the GGF runs.
(especially if there are any last minute course changes, someone falling behind, someone with engine trouble, etc...)
If we are, now would be a good time to remind everyone not to forget theirs.....

I will be bringing two if anyone wants to borrow one.

Jess, we're leaving Bakersfield at 1:00 and meeting people along the way. We should be in Paso Robles at the same station where we always meet around 3:00PM. That would put us at the hotel around 3:30-3:45. Rie and I were thinking that we would go back to the rib place for dinner around 6:30 or so if anyone is interested.

On another note...

I'm going to send out e-mails this week about the dinner Saturday night. I am confirming registrations so we can get a good number for dinners needed. I am leaving registration open on the site at http://www.fiero-performance.com until November 1. At that time I have to tell the caterers how many we are having for dinner. Anyone who is not registered with me at that time will not be able to join us for dinner. Of course everyone is welcome to be there, but there will only be enough food for people who have registered. Sorry that I have to put a deadline on it but that is how it has to be so that the caterers can plan for us.

Good idea, Kit! Yes, we always try to encourage people to bring radios. They are good, not only in case of emergency, but also just to chat with other people on the Run. Of course, it is always best for the passenger/co-pilot to be doing the talking so the driver can concentrate on the road! I got my radios out and started charging them today when we got back... Another point that people are probably aware of... Cell phones mostly do not work along this part of hwy 1! On each end you can usually get some reception, but along most of the Run there is nothing! And there are no call boxes or any much civilization either. This is not a good road to wreck or break down on. I suggest the buddy system and everyone taking care of each other.

Personally, Rie and I are not going to be speed demons this year. In past years, I have topped 110 on some parts of the road. That will not happen this year for us. I'm going to keep my speed around 55-60 (except on that one straight part where I might see 70-75). Anyone who wants to go faster than that can leave ahead of the group. It is a dangerous road and we don't want any mishaps like last year. That could easily have turned fatal.
