Let's say you declared your Fiero as collateral for a bank loan, and you declared its value as $200,000 on the loan application. But 6 weeks before that, you secured a loan from another bank to buy your Fiero, and in that transaction, the Fiero was valued at just $20,000.
You could be prosecuted for a crime or subject to civil liability just for inflating its value by a factor of 10, to $200,000, on the second of your loan applications. Even if that bank rejected your second application for a loan using the Fiero as collateral.
That's my understanding of it.
The descriptions I've encountered are that the New York State AG's lawsuit cites example after example, from some number of years back and all the way forwards to the last days of Trump's presidency (and maybe even after he left the White House) and runs to over 200 pages of property or wealth declarations from Trump (et al) that they are calling "fraudulent".

I think this case will be settled out of court. It's a lawsuit ($), not a criminal prosecution.
And you're quite correct. I've not read behind the cover page. All I have seen (directly from this document) is the list of defendants.
I posted it as a favor to forum members (like "jdv" if you scroll back a few posts) who have expressed questions about the case. A selfless act, on my part. Altruism at its finest.
This is just another frivolous, nuisance lawsuit. It is nothing more than harassment, but you cannot bully a tough guy.
They also can't bully good lawyers that already know that the lawsuit alleges civil tort(s) but completely lacks a definitive, injured, counter party and asks for remedies appropriate only to a criminal action, (which it isn't).
