This EXACTLY why Trump should have prosecuted Clinton while he was is office. Trump was being nice and said he was not going to go after political opponents. Now look who is going after political opponents
This is just the beginning. If any politician thinks they won't have this used against THEM, they are in denial. This will now become a standard practice. Who knows, maybe this will drain that swap we have always been talking about.

The Presidential Records Act (PRA) of 1978, 44 U.S.C. §§ 2201–2209, is an Act of the United States Congress governing the official records of Presidents and Vice Presidents created or received after January 20, 1981, and mandating the preservation of all presidential records.
~ Wikipedia.
The FBI has executed a search warrant for Classified paper or electronic records that, according to FBI investigators, Trump is suspected of illegally taking with him to Mar-A-Lago at the end of his Presidency.
If not Classified paper or electronic records, then unclassified documents or electronic records that he was not supposed to remove from the premises of the White House, under the strictures of the Presidential Records Act.
That's my guess.
If he were to be indicted and convicted of violating the Presidential Records Act, that would legally disqualify him from running again for the Presidency or other elected public office.
It's a felony.
I guess it's conceivable that the only purpose is to retrieve any such documents or records and put it in the custody of the National Archives.

The president is ultimate authority on classification. That means that he can do literally whatever he wants with classified documents, and can declassify them as quickly as simply speaking them. This is fact. It's non-negotiable. He moved all of these documents WHILE he was still president. The concept of classified documents is something that is entirely created by presidential edict, not by law. There is nothing in law that states what is and is not classified documentation.
Furthermore, this isn't the 1950s... all of these documents were likely printed from their digital masters which were still on government networks, and manditorally saved to the National Archives by law. Again, this isn't the 1950s... at best, he merely has printouts of everything. There would be literally no possible way that anything he has is original paper with the exception of letters sent to him in the mail or hand-delivered... which would be his personal effects anyway.

well while he is in office
but he no longer is in office
so NO he can't
something both you and he forget

The documents were just an excuse. This home invasion was done for three purposes:
1) It was an intimidation technique, a show of force, much like China's recent activity in the Taiwan Strait.
2) It was a fishing expedition. The "classified documents" issue was a non-starter months ago, much like the Zelenskyy phone call and the Steele dossier. But it looks like they stole unrelated private possessions in the hope of finding something that they can exploit.
3) It is part of the multifaceted circus sideshow which began in earnest in the last 100 days leading to the midterms.
In the last twelve hours, I have been biting my tongue so hard that I had to feed the part that fell off to the dog. This is not good.

This is what all of us are concerned about, and I think you are completely right about this... it's unbelievable.
What makes you think anyone here wants to hear about your guess ?

How long do you think a conviction would take to be finalized ? My guess is longer than two years.

If Trump were to be convicted of violating the Presidential Records Act, would he be barred from running for President again, and barred from seeking any future office within the Federal Government?
On the face of it, Trump would be barred from holding any future Federal office.
quote
Early reports that the F.B.I. search of former President Donald J. Trump’s residence in Florida related to an investigation into whether he had unlawfully taken government files when he left the White House focused attention on an obscure criminal law barring removal of official records. The penalties for breaking that law include disqualification from holding any federal office.
Because Mr. Trump is widely believed to be preparing to run for president again in 2024, that unusual penalty raised the prospect that he might be legally barred from returning to the White House.
Specifically, the law in question — Section 2071 of Title 18 of the United States Code — makes it a crime if someone who has custody of government documents or records “willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, falsifies or destroys” them.
But there's a caveat!
quote
Some Republicans were briefly entranced [in 2015] with whether the law could keep [Hillary] Clinton out of the White House, including Michael Mukasey, a former attorney general in the administration of George W. Bush. So was at least one conservative think tank.
But in considering that situation, several legal scholars — including Seth B. Tillman of Maynooth University in Ireland and Eugene Volokh of the University of California, Los Angeles — noted that the Constitution sets eligibility criteria for who can be president, and argued that Supreme Court rulings suggest Congress cannot alter them. The Constitution allows Congress to disqualify people from holding office in impeachment proceedings, but grants no such power for ordinary criminal law.
Mr. Volokh later reported on his blog that Mr. Mukasey — who is also a former federal judge — wrote that “upon reflection,” Mr. Mukasey had been mistaken and Mr. Tillman’s analysis was “spot on.” (Mrs. Clinton was never charged with any crime related to her use of the server.)
Interpreting the Book of Volokh, which isn't the title of a movie, but sounds like it should be... from the legacy media venue You Love To Hate... the "paper of record"... the "gargantuan of Gotham"... to wit:
"If Trump broke a law on the removal of official records, would he be barred from future office?" Charlie Savage for the New York Times; August 8, 2022. https://www.nytimes.com/202...nt-criminal-law.html
