Hehe, it's all perspective. I've probably got as many negs as you have total ratings.
Most of mine were earned for political reasons, since I don't recall threatening anyone, making lewd comments about anyone's children, and rarely curse anyone out here.
I knew all my hard work and extreme workout regimine would pay off one day!
Ok, so I'm lying...I'm still an IT guy. I have NO idea where to go from here. I REALLY hate the "business world"..(I don't want to be a "manager", it just seems so pointless, and I like to help people, not manage people.)
I'm finishing up my degree, which will be helpful, I suppose, but I still am not sure what the heck to do. I may seem like I'm a goof, but I DO work my butt off, when there is work to be done. I've been "project manager" and have worn a bunch of different hats, I just don't see where the heck is the "next step" for me. I suppose that once I finish the degree, things will open up, and I'll figure out what i want to "do"... I've turned down a few jobs recently because my current job pays for most of my education. There is just not much higher I can go here , due to the way my company is set up.
I guess I'm just a bit frustrated... I don't want to waste my life. I enjoy helping people, and creating things. I hate the thought of becoming a manager, and just being a cog, or someone whose main function is to keep down costs.
This past weekend, I went to a wedding with my wife, and everyone at the table were such stuffed shirts...It was very painful to sit there and talk with them at first, because they were SOOO full of themselves. It was disgusting. It was like they took their lives, typed it into Word, clicked on each word, selected "thesaurus" , and then used the most expensive word in each case. It wasn't that they had a large vocabulary, it was just that they didn't go to college, they "attended the prestigious university of Columbia". Most of them went on about all the fabulous occupations they were currently doing, but when I asked them where they currently worked, they were all "in between" jobs, (basically living off their rich parent's or grandparents' trust funds). Not one of them were actually "working", but had graduated several years ago.
Sure, I wouldn't cry out in protest if someone were to hand me a house, car, and trust fund. I wouldn't refuse it, but I wouldn't go around pretending I'm "successful" because other people gave me handouts. The worst part was when they gave their speeches. they went up and were supposed to talk about the bride and groom, but really said how great THEY were. "While I was attending the prestigious univerity of Bynard, I met The bride and groom, who both admire me because I am so wonderful, oh, let me list all of MY accomplishments" (paraphrased, but accurate)
It was a sickening display of plumage.
I guess it just drives me nuts to hang out with a group of people, and they are all just SOOOO fake. It's like If I hung out with Archie and Cliff, and asked Archie about engine swaps, and he didn't know that the engine was in the rear, and I asked Cliff about the forum, and he didn't know what an emoticon was.
I didn't sit there and rip into these people - my wife and I just exchanged polite conversation with them, and then we hit the dance floor. I'm just glad we don't normally hang out with that group. On another occasion, I DID hang out with a bunch of snooty SOBs that all claimed to be "All that", in their particular fields (most were in IT) and their lack of basic computer knowledge was astounding.
Not that I'm freakin' Einstein, but they didn't even know the most basic stuff.
I guess I'm just in the mood to rant a bit. I just hate "fake" people. I guess I was cooped up with them for a bit too much the past few days... I'm not bitter about my situation in life, things are going ok, I guess I just needed to vent here...
A friend of mine used to tell snooties that he was Blimp Pilot. He would then make up the craziest lies regarding the different aspects of his job, I had to bite my lip not to laugh my ass off. He would tell them things like he owned his own private blimp, that he would take to work (where the big blimp was parked) At home, he would land on his roof, using a special landing pad that he invented...

Just a few weeks ago, I went to my Old School reunion, the first time I have been back for 42 years.And guess what..I went dressed as Elvis!! My older brother didnīt know what to do, when we met up on the way...He just stared at me, and said "you arenīt!!" and I said "Too frigging right I am!!" Well, you should have seen the faces of my former schoolmates and teachers!! All the "bad" boys went crazy!! "Should have known"" was the opinion of the majority..and all the stuffed shirt brigade, from the "upper streams" nearly had an apopleptic fit!! Mostly it went down well, though a few of my ex Teachers eyebrows were so raised, it looked like they had hair again!! "Still being the individual, I see?" I called them all by their first names too...when one finally asked how I had the temerity to address former teachers with so much familiarity, I replied"well, when I was 15, and you were 35, there was a big difference in ages...nowadays, the age gap has diminished somewhat, and peers donīt address each other as "sir".!! Whoa!! Bad Boy!! At the final assembly, with more than 400 white-haired old dodderers around, (no offence to white hair..mine nearly is, when I am not performing!!!), I looked around at those poor ,stuck in a rut, boring Bas!ards, and was happy to still be an impoverished rebel!! Actually, "Boink". Every time a pic I am hosting is viewed, my computer would play a "boink" wav. last week, I forgot to mute the speaker when went to work. my wife gets home before me, and when I got home, she told me there was something boinking all day in the other room...and was driving her nuts.... Heh. it reminded me of that "beep" thing from that old post.

this is why i chucked a 20 year career in DP (old guy talk for IT). after you've written 3 corporate billing systems and programs that "couldn't be done" and gotten called down for improving a business process, where else is there to go?
programming is a creative endeavor, best left to those whimsical souls who see beyond what is. you are certainly one of those. your life should mean more than lining some suit's pocket, but that's exactly what they'll try to use you for. and they will use you, till they use you up. you're not "personnel", you're a "human resource", to be used up and tossed on the scrap heap when you've outlived your usefulness.
you deserve better, don't we all? you let them do it to you because there are bills to pay. kids need clothes and college, and that costs money. but it never ends. it's like the monkey trap, the monkey makes a fist to get the food out of the gourd, he cant get his hand out, he's trapped by his own needs.
look around, at yourself and your loved ones. make note of what makes you smile, and do those things more often. when you find yourself saying "i'd really like to do ????", then try it, in your spare time. see if you really do like it enough to do it a lot, day in and day out.
don't burn your bridges, stay in IT for a while yet, while you build your lifeboat. that may be enough, just to know there's a way out.
