Plus any stock 944 would rip a Fiero to shreds on twisties, given comparable driver skill. Fieros are great cars but they are not porsche's, Lambos, Vipers,etc NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF ENGINE WE STUFF IN THE BACK. But **** 2900 cdn, myabe I should come up and take a look around....
If fiero5 is racing this proshe along with his son. or making it another father son spend time together event. i think its awsome! this guy has go to be the worlds greatest dad. this is the only guy on the forum when i read his posts i wish i could rate people positive more then once. I think there was one other person, and thats the guy that spent tons of money to save his kids pet ferret.
LOL The Ferret saving was me also. Man that day was awefull. Luckily the kids pet Ferret Snuggles is doing so much better now. I just gave all three Ferrets a bath today actually, including Snuggles. Now there is a Kodak moment

If that was true, the 'former' Porsche Factory Racer that owned my car previously (and raced it for 3 years) wouldn't have created it!!! For the record, I don't know what my Top Speed is, never attemped to go flat out till it wouldn't pull anymore. Figure it out using 400hp, stock Getrag 5spd, 245X50X16 rear tires, and 6,200 cap on rpm (still having over 300 ft lbs of torque at that rpm). Engine starts to 'fall off' sharply at 6,300.
Now highly modded 911's, Lambo's (even stock ones), and Vipers are another story all together. But you've got to have mega bucks to play that game, so why even try to draw a comparison on those cars???

1.) I don't know why he choose the fiero, maybe he didn't like the idea of a front mounted car and/or did not want to pay the price and parts for a 911.
2.) You car is impressive indeed, don't get me wrong. But stock for stock and comparable driver skill, the 944 handles better.

Sorry, but a STOCK 944 is nothing to write home about. It is comparable to speed and handling of other sport compacts including....yes, the Fiero. The one I will be racing has a stock 4 banger in it. Yes, driving skills will be very important, and yes, I expect to get beat. But lets be fair nere, I have as much of a chance of winning as he does. But lets not lose focus on some trying to make a 944 sound like it will perform like a turbo 911, because it will not.

After reading through eight pages, I have found some intresting things. Oh things like fiero owners lie about time slips, that the fiero is a cheap enough car to by for a child,which is cool because they are cheaper then a playstation2 or x-box, and you dont have to feed them like a pet.
But the biggest issue fiero owners have is with the 944 (why, I dont know) now the thing all of need to remember is that the fiero is not on the 944's level.
I know everyone here owns atleast one fiero, but your all okay in my book.

BTW: I am not in anyway bashing nor have I ever bashed the Porsche 944, as they are real sweet cars. The 944 was however Porsches attempt to make an everymans affordable Porsche, sort of like the Fiero that was made to be sort of an everymans affordable Corvette or something like that. Knowwhatimean?
Now, once you get into the turbo models, that is a whole different ball of wax. Duh!.

I'll tell you why, he bought the car with 10k miles on it to use a commuter car, he had investigated the '88 Fiero GT performance very seriously before making the purchase. It didn't take him long to find out that the car handles exceptionally well, the areas that showed minor weakness could be 'tweaked' with in-expensive parts. Power on the other hand was going to take a chuck out of the wallet so to speak.
Like any other Californian, he puts a lot of miles per year on a car, and the odometer clicked to 90k miles quickly. Still very impressed with the car, he had by now decided exactly what it needed, and the conversion process started. He bought a new C5 Corvette for his commuter while the transformation of the Fiero took place. After a 3 month transformation of the Fiero and a short dial in period, he found the Fiero to exceed the performance of his new C5 Corvette and started racing the Fiero on Road Courses in Southern California with great success.
He didn't lack for money, owns a successful business, and also had more than a couple Porsches stored in the garage. In other words, his motivation wasn't to build a 'cheap man's' hot rod. The Fiero was chosen for what it could do with very few changes (the V8 part, just to make it awesome). There are very few cars out there that will meet this performance challenge with so little in the way of necessary parts, and maintainence cost. It's a dream come true without the worry that some day you might have to re-mortgage the house if you want to keep your dream car alive.
He basically sold me the car because he ran out of room, and knew it would be going to a good home for even further improvements. He regrets to this day, having sold the car to me, and we do stay in touch as he wants to know of any changes/improvements done to it.
Anyway that's the story, the Fiero's capabilities never really got played up that hard by anyone due to it's very short history. The IMSA Cars were exceptional in the number of 1st and 2nd Place Race Wins when they were campaigned. Many people simply did not imagine that with a few bucks, some simple parts could turn the production car into an awesome performer that's very easy on the wallet as well.
