Does anyone know of any good junkyards around the area? Coming from a small town we never had a pick-n-pull junkyard around and I've always wanted to go to see these glorious junkyard finds.
Glorious is not the right word. There's the one by the speedway, a bunch downtown, here. Actually, a bunch in southern IL. Depends on what you're looking for.
Just looking for a variety. I need various interior parts and would love to find some inspirations for custom bits to integrate. I've looked up a few. The Pick-n-Pull didn't have any Fieros listed on their inventory and the other one, U-Pic-A-Part doesn't have any inventory list that I could find. Doesn't have to be just Fieros though, just interested in checking out what I could find.
Not much left of them unless you maybe need an exterior panel. I don't know why they have kept them for so long. I would not make a 2.5 hour trip. If looking for something specific when I go there I would look for you but I am not sure when.

I'm in the Edwardsville area now for school, looks to be about half hour from campus, thank you for your consideration though! I ought to update my location on here!
I've never had the opportunity to check out a salvage yard coming from such a small town. I always thought they'd be neat to check out, maybe see some oddities you don't see on the road anymore. I may make a trip down there tomorrow just to check it out.

It is like going to a huge but sad car show.Best part is that you can climb around the vehicle an take any cool part that catches your eye. Last time I was at speedway a father and son were looking at a corvair like it was a car show.Stay back several yards and lean for a look but DON'T touch.lol The son had never seen anything like it.
Not sure if anyone else has seen this on Craigslist, but I figured I'd share it with everyone! http://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/5902064821.html That price has been dropping faster than the stocks when Clinton lost Florida. A few days ago I think they were asking 800, now down to 400. They really seem to want it gone, wouldn't be surprised if they took the first offer! Understandably, it's pretty rough, but maybe someone will find it to be a decent winter project
Nope just saw it on Craigslist. There's another posting from mid November I'm assuming is the same car showing the interior. Looks like it may have a replacement fender there? http://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/5879855612.html If anyone snatches it up and wants a better interior I have most of the pieces from my Formula that I took out when swapping in my new interior. Also have gray cloth seats that are complete but I've been waffling on whether or not I want to sell them. If anyone does buy this and needs them though I'd probably part with them. They're really just taking up space. And I really don't like the thought of being a hoarder.
A V6 Fiero with no rust, for $1500, than can be driven will be difficult. One of those 3 things can be had.
Have you tried claz.org? A bit more widespread.
A general price guide, although prices went up a bit, last year.
I don't want to discourage you, but you will have to expect to spend money on a cheap Fiero. For no rust, you would need to look someplace like Arizona. The problem is, Fieros from there usually have interiors and paint that have been destroyed by the sun. I know people have picked up Fieros for $2,000, but then they have things that need to be fixed. You could maybe find a 4-cylinder coupe for that price.
If you want a rust free daily driver i have a couple from Arizona area...but not at 1500. Ill let you know when i get home in a few weeks. You can come down and take a look at a couple.
I understand the pay more now, or pay it later scheme. Mainly just want it driving enough to be able to move under it's own power to get it from my garage to driveway as I do little stuff here and there and I haven't seen any rollers worth buying either.
I see the GT in Collinsville but the price seems a bit high considering the 2.8 and 5 speed will soon be removed anyway.
As for the black one, it's an 8 hour round trip and I kinda prefer the non - GT. Missing my 86 SE was my first car, which I got back in 2000.
Was hoping there'd be a few that just aren't on craigslist right now. If it has to be a non driving that would be okay, I'd just have to wait a little longer till I finish the ls4 swap on the Grand Prix in there now.
Have looked for quite a while for Saab drivetrain swaps, seen the 2.8T by haus. But I'm big into Saab's, my daily gets just over 40 mpg highway with normal driving and higher 40s with eco driving methods., would like to swap it's 2.0t with f35 the biggest challenge seems to be the Saab electronics.
Goal being 50 + mpg and 300 whp. Seems like the 3.8 swap has been beat to death, if I were to go that route it'd be turbo much like DH, but it appears I'd get caught up in going for the 9 second ET.

Devils advocate here!! That posting has a few red flags on it.175,000 miles is allot for a "factory"3.8 fiero????Maybe they were type o's.But the photo is clearly a stock top end.Why can't you drive it home?No E brake tack or speado,,,,no problem driving without those.Shot battery just means you can't engage the starter without a jump.Once it is running the alternator will support the electrical system.More often than not "can't be started, just needs a battery" is craigs list code for the engine is shot. I found a craiglist 86gt 4spead, just needs a battery car so I could do a 3.8sc conversion this winter. When it wouldn't jump start I garbed a breaker bar to manually turn the engine over.He quickly dropped his price from $900 to #300.We both knew engine was locked up.Price is always negotiable but you need to be able to spot the flaws and put a price on the repairs. The car you are looking for is going to cost you more than 1500. Money and/or your own labor is going to be tacked onto that price unless you luck into a screaming deal.I will keep an eye open but what is more valuable to you ,time or money?
10-sec, you'll spend money on anything that isn't in good condition to begin with. You could buy one of the rollers in CA. Yeah, hauling it would take time.
If you're going to do a swap, I hope you don't buy one of JR's Fieros. His are mostly original, or stock. The ones I saw were clean samples. Of course, his daily driver shows some wear.
I wouldn't really expect the TCC to cause slippage. Its function is to prevent slippage. I suspect another issue, like a bad seal, or the pressure switch. Something in the transmission is starting to go. Note that I know nothing about transmissions, but have some experience with the TCC, and with a slipping tranny. If you already have it, I'd change the filter/fluid. If you're looking to purchase, I'd buy it as having no transmission. No problem anyway, for a swap. It should get to your house. Just don't try hard acceleration.

Thanks for the heads up. I seen that, got excited then seen it was a automatic.
With my plans shifting to a saab 9-3 drivetrain with an f35. I'd prefer to find a manual car.
With that said, I found one, but the owner was a bit crazy when I tried to arrange picking it up. So I'm not willing to make the long drive all for nothing.
Hey Shark,My trans experience is mostly with TH350 and 400s.All I have done on fiero trans is TCC,pressure switch, and filters. The TCC is designed to stop slippage in 3rd gear If it fails, it would not lock up and allow slippage only in 3rd or never unlock. The 1st band almost always wears out fist.Weak pump effects all gears.Partial block in 3rd port valve body wold slip then build pressure to lock down the band.(That could kill the 3rd band). It is also possible some kid watched a youtube video and decided to adjust the band when he did a filter change and got the preload wrong. Buddy has been AFC certified trans specialist since 1990.He claims 50% of his diagnosis is school and experience.50% is still trans FM.F*ckin magic. Some times trans problems deify diagnosis.
The hood is the hard part if you don't know how to glass. Most of the other parts you listed are universal.Speadway salvage should have them and cheap.Tail lights are a little harder and depends on gt or notchy.I have a spare notchy set, possibly all the parts but would have to look.not that hard to find.
How hard is it come by the hood, passenger side headlight assembly and trap door for light.
That's one of the things that killed that car for me, Idk how hard it is to get parts. It also needs the drivers side rear taillight.
For those in St Louis, I need to thin out my stash of Fiero parts in my shop. I am in Cuba, MO which is an hour down I-44 from St Louis. I have a hood, head light and should have a head light door. Let me know what you need and we may be able to make a deal.
How are you planning on molding lenses?I haven't done this in year but I only know of two methods. The 2 part liquid method (PITA) and the poly sheet methods both require even heating at some point and the lenses look bigger than a standard oven.A commercial pizza oven would work great! If you figure it out make sure you bring enough to share with the whole class! My GTs were delaminated and had cracks. I used a clear epoxy on the cracks and wet sanded smooth.I added 2 coats of lens tent to help hide the small cracks in the clear area. This is a good page to refinishing delaminated GT lenses. The link comes back 404 but if you copy paste it opens. https://www.fiero.nl/forum/A...160323-1-074495.html
The method is not know for sure at this point but I just spoke with my son and I am taking my lenses to were he works, they make molds. This will be a go if/ when we get everything to work out. I travel a lot but with his expertise I don't think it will take long to get production started. Anyone have a set of the notch back lenses? Probably grab a set from the junk yard this weekend. I believe there are a couple there even thou they are cracked.
