I know dammit.. I hate having to rely on people, but thats business also.. but either way, I'm getting it done soon. I do have a welder in my garage.. but its just a little 110 arc welder, and I suck at welding (only did it once) ... should be interesting if I end up having to do it myself for the proto. lol

Dont worry, I'll have it done professionally for the product!

I'll get pics by wed. at the latest. thats even if I have to find someone else and pay more.. I really am tired of having this happen too. Its like one thing after another... but who ever said it was easy? (and if they do they obviously havent tried it lol)

Hey man, i have a few un Koein*eg/Lambo related fiero door questions for ya. Yes, these are for a door mod, but its a personal one. Im currently about 3k miles from my car, as the exhaust manifold sprung a rust related leak and I had the car shipped home for v8 prep.

How much does a Fiero door weigh?
How long is the Fiero Door?
How thick is the Fiero door?
How much wiring (windows/locks) is there between door and frame and how small could it be bundeled.

Last do you have detailed pics of the door, skinless door, door frame, sill, and car frame? If so, could you pass those along to me? My PFF email will take em just fine.

Thanks alot for any help you can give me, If you dont have too much of it let me know and ill open a thread about it.

You still don't get it. You're still making promises you can't guarantee you can keep. Don't worry so much about trying to please people and concentrate on getting the job done. You really can't guarantee that it will get done soon because you do have to rely on other people to get the job done. You can't promise Wednesday at the latest because you can't guarantee that, even if you pay more, someone else will get the job done.

Not saying your idea isn't a good one but you also can't guarantee that, even if you find the help you need in time, the prototype will work as you hoped. You admit to being inexperienced at fabrication, therefore you don't have the experience to know that sometimes even after countless hours of planning and careful execution, things happen! It could take three or four attempts, it could work on the first try.

These were great words of wisdom for you:

I only know a few of those things, but I'd like to know all of it too, looks like you already started the thread though

Oh, and I can guaruntee that I will have pics wed. I know someone who can do it tomorrow if I can pay. The other guy was doing the work for a trade. I will have it done and tested (w/pics) by wed.

I'd say about 20% the 1st one and 80% the second!

while doing all this waiting, I think I'll start working on a wood prototype for the lambo kit... now that I have some wood working tools.

Commanderkeen: The door, without inner and outer panels is: 47" long x 21" tall x ~6" thick. All measurements are taken at largest points. No idea how much it weighs, it's still attached to the car.

Anyone know where to get the short 4-5" struts like they use on the decah lambo kit? and/or know how much weight they are rated for? I need one in that range. but all the ones I find do not say anything about how many lbs they hold..

What? You mean to tell me, you want to build the complicated "Koenigsegg" style door and yet you don't know what's the lenght, rating, and nor the size of a common DECAH style struts?

I have a couple of questions for you:

1. Do you know how many Fiero owners will want to buy a "Koenigsegg" style door for less than $4-5k? That's is what the going price may soon be once the major players finishes the proto type. If you've haven't notice, for (some Fiero owners) they will not pay for anything that exceeds the original cost of their Fiero. That being $500 bucks.

2. Have you "done" your homework as to the actual "cost" once the kit is finished and installed? If a actual (now old) style lambo doors for a Corvette cost upwards of $2799 from Vertical Doors Inc (VDI). Just how much do you think VDI would sell a "Koenigsegg" style door for? Are we to believe you are to sell a bolt-on "Koenigsegg" style doors for less than $499-999?

I'm sorry to bust yo balls but,.....I have news for you.

For a kit (any kit for that matter) to sell for less than $499 is a major pipe dream. The only peoples' that can pull something off like that and for less,... would be from those who work as slaves in China, who's company would sell millions, flood the market, and kill all compitition in the USA. Granted, they'd most definitly "would not be viewing owners who have Fieros."

Geesz, nearly 5,000 hits and just under 200 replies and still no kit. You need to either, "Get on your "J.O.B.", stop bumping this thread until you've actually have something for all to see or https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/064028.html

Did you not read any of my posts? I mentioned the price many times. it is UNDER $1000, I'm keeping it low for PFF members.

Also, I'm googling the decah struts, I still cant come up with anything even on the website. I have found them for sale and it says nothing about strength, was just hoping someone could help me out. I was just thinking these struts would probably work better with my kit than some others I have found.

And yes, I know the length and everything BUT the strength, which I havent found yet. I'll have to look some more later if no one else knows..

I did a quick search and found them in various sizes and lift limits. From 4" 80 pounds to 8" 150 pounds.

I've mention the price...$999. I sarcasticlly wrote $499-999 just because I refused to go through 5-page looking for the price.

Since you're the person who want's to build the "kit",...then (you) should be the person in charge of doing the reseach, right? How did I find out price....I looked them up and then called the company and to my suprise...the price has gone up. That "price" will end up being "half" of the original $1000 you've quoted.

So let me get this straight: You're going to build or have some with "skills, knowledge, and time" to build a special "Koenigsegg" style kit for the Fiero community for 1k to which, 1/2 of the cost is struts, right? The remaining half ($500) is for tooling plus minus the shipping & receiving ($40-80 bucks). So, in total...the part being made will cost $420 bucks and $500 for struts,.....that freakin unbelievable!!!

Edit: Cause this thread, it's predecessor (a.ka. lambo thread), and the $700 dollor Canadian VDC thread are truely entertaining.

Mind letting me know where this was? I have found a few sites, but the shortest is like 7" stroke. and fully extended is like 17". at 100-150lbs. I need 4-5".

Oh, and madcurl... I can get the decah struts for $80 a peice. and that is from a dealer.. after I become a dealer the price will be cut in half atleast. But obviously you dont know anything about this. All I needed to know Is what they could handle (in lbs...) to make sure it is more than needed. I dont want them being the same struts that were going bad (I think I heard of some blowing out). A 100lb strut would work, but I'd rather have a 150lb. If you cant tell me or just wont, then please do not post, theres really no point.

Dealer’s price: Trust me; I've known the price since 2004. The $250 price is a mark-up from various venders "as-is" the VDC kits. The dealer price in 2004 was $75 per strut. That's the price I paid for the stronger struts.

In my case, there wasn't any struts going bad. I needed the heavy duty strut due to the weight of the Fiero door. Only person (so far) who's strut blew was Fierorumor which was (according to him) the cold harsh weather.

As for; "Which strut to use" ....I don't know the specs, but that it's a heavy duty strut and it's not that I'm holding out in telling you but, rather you should call the company that selling them.

Future posting on your thread: Don't worry. I'm done.

Not that I care since I have no interest in doors that do loop-de-loops. I just hope nobody is dumb enough to send you money.

Quick question....I have seen some doors that open upwards but they also open out like a stock door. I could be wrong but this seem like it wouldnt be as stable as just working in one direction. I know they need to pop out a bit first to open but do the ones you are working on only work in one direction? Thanks

They do not hinge the same way as stock. They only move straight out, and then the door moves vertical... to achive the "Koenigsegg" style door. I will be working on one that does what you are talking about. open like stock, and open vertical. still trying to figure out how to make it small enough...

soooo....is it wednesday yet? which wednesday did you mean? i guess you didn't specify that clearly. or did the days of the week suddenly stop for you too? camera batteries died and every store was sold out? home depot was out of 2 x 4's and gate hinges? gas shocks need to be filled up?

you're best bet at this point would be to not post anything at all. nothing. and if, by some chance you actually do come up with anything. i mean a product, proven, tested and guarenteed, then post it.

just kinda through something together to show I'm making progress.. just literally got it done 30 min ago.
