Great! I appreciate that! I hope you guys can come...
Either way, next time Rie and I come to Vegas we should at least get together for dinner or something. I have a friend who handles groups at Jillian's down on Fremont. He always gives me free game cards! I talked to him about having a Fiero show on the Mall there at Fremont St. He said it could be done..
Yeah for sure
Fastback you may own 3 and 4....but not page 5

Jess, I think that you and I are on the same wave length in dealings with this.
I personally have not, nor will I ever feel compelled to enter the SSEiGT into a show of any magnitude, especially one that charges an entry fee. I didn’t build the car to be judged, nor do I feel the competitive nature to do such. IMO, car shows where there are trophies and what not that are being vied for, are nothing more than a contest for who has the largest “piggy bank withdrawal slips” that went spent on their vehicle, Fiero or otherwise…
I have always had issues with events such as this, as there is really no point in trying to compete against those that have damn near bet their retirements against the winning performance of their completed projects, as 99% of the time awards go to those who have the most outlandish vehicle modifications, which in turn usually cost the most financially. Yes there are exceptions to every rule, but this is why I didn’t say that this was a “rule”, just an observation…. I will admit that I do “go” to these events, and I love ‘em as much as the next guy, but to actually enter and try to compete just doesn’t make sense to me, my priorities are not online with that ideology.
I realize that these statements really sound like they are coming from one that is not “able” to spend large amounts of money on their Fiero to make it one of the top contenders here on the West Coast, but this is far from reality. I choose not to do so, as my priorities are elsewhere. I personally built the SSEiGT for my own enjoyment, and if there are others that would like to see it, that’s great, but it’s all about me in the long run. How self centered did that sound?
When I attended West Fest last year, 2oo4, I think that the total amount of my personal funding that went to the event coffers were no more than $1o.oo, of which was spent on the Dash Plaques. Which BTW Bear, were top notch. So to say that with reduced numbers of people that are going to show will have little effect on the total that is made during the events, is not really relevant unless there is the stipulation made that it is in reference to those that are actually entering / paying for the events and judging.
Like you said, there is a serious financial aspect to the GTG’s that are put on that few will ever know about unless they are apart of the committee to which they are put on. Personally I enjoy the “non-committal” aspect that we currently have here in the local CA area. I think that tire kickin, hanging out talking about the FUBAR things that are associated with the ownership / modification of the Pontiac Fiero is what GTG’s should be, and dislike the idea that there should be “fees”, for things and what not. Yet they are a reality if there are those that want to have things be as nice as they were in West Fest in 2oo4.
Those that show up and pay for these events are the owners that really are the ones going to be the deciding factors if the show continues on the course that has been laid out. I guess that a thanx to those that do desire to enter the events, and participate because they are the ones that pull the larger crowd draws, which in turn draw more owners out for the show.
CLIFF’S NOTES: I don't like fees for GTG’s; IMO: Car shows with trophies are nothing more than a piggy bank contest; Event participation / successes are dependent upon the number of paying members into the contests, not total number of those showing; I tend to get long winded at times, and go off on tangents;
Thanx for tuning in, now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Hey Stimpy, where did you hang yours that you won last year!?
Yep.. She's working on it. It's a little different than the one that Stimpy won last year. I'm gonna have to keep one of these for myself one of these days!

Oh yeah. The only thing going on that week is Skip Barber Driving School, so we can get on to the facility. Laguna Seca is a park (State park I think) and the gates are manned most of the time. If the gates are manned, then entrance fee is $6.00, although I have been on the site without paying, the ranger said I could look around for 15 min or so without paying. Still, may be dicier then most people are interested in. For the $6 we could do 17 Mile Drive.

OK.. I may just make some phone calls. We need a place big enough to get our group shots, and I was thinking that individual shots in front of a big Laguna Seca sign would have been cool too... Thanks for checking on it.

Can we go look around on the track?

Also, another reminder for anyone who is coming on the Run to please go to the website and register. While it is not required, it helps with planning.... http://www.fiero-performance.com/coastrun/
You can see the track, and drive around the service roads, but not on the track itself. Of course, if we wanted to rent the track, possibly in cooperation with a Corvette club or the like, we could do that sometime. It's pretty expensive, though.

I just would like to get us all in front of a big sign that says Laguna Seca. I wouldn't care if it was on the track or in the parking lot. I just don't want us to have to pay $6 each for an hour of picture taking. It's not like even want to hang around... This is the only hanging chad of the Coast Run...

My personal opinion is that it is kinda dicey whether or not we could get in without the $6 per head, and the sign near the entrance is kinda blah. I'd hate to seem like I was pushing for going to Laguna Seca and have it be a bust. The park in Carmel Valley would probably be a nicer shot, and would involve less time. If we were going to pay the $6 a car, I'd say go for 17 Mile Drive.

IIRC, when Laguna Seca has an open track day, its something like $220 a piece, a signed inspection from a licensed mechanic, and a helmet. Car clubs might get a better deal.
Also, IIRC, the sign out front isn't very impressive, and the good ones are on the track or somewhere else we wouldn't be able to get 23 cars.

Stimpy, I'm hoping to do a couple of group shots up there and also do the individual shots there as well this year. Doing the individual shots at Gorda last year didn't work out all that well. Plus the fact that we are losing some people after lunch. If we wait till Gorda for the pictures those people will be left out. If you think the park is the way to go, we'll make that the plan because I don't have time for another road trip up there. I'm heading to Oregon in the morning and that will be my last road trip before the Coast Run. Is there anything around the park that would make a good backdrop for individual car shots?

Another suggestion: People who are attending this run should also carry FRS's that way we can all communicate with each other just in case some of us get behind. Just a thought. Better if the FRS has sub codes so that we can have our own frequency. Anyway, I have one in my car at all times. But then again we do have our cell phones but not each others cell phone numbers. Peace.

That's a really good point. Sometimes people drop out of FRS range. However, a lot of the coast is a dead zone for celphones. Perhaps a few people can volunteer to hand out their cel numbers to the group. I've got no problem with mine being given out.
