Not so with GT4, you're limited to one save game per card. Don't pull out the memory card while GT4 is running, you could corrupt your current GT4 save data.
As for the HP differences between the garage/replay screen I think it was mainly a conversion issue. I think the replay screen is actually in PS and the garage is HP.
