I hate to say it, but due to gas prices and my personal economic situation it looks like we may be attending the Round-up and not the 25th as originally planned We're still discussing, and probably won't decide until the time of, but I'm putting the dates on the calender either way.
Question for you folks. When you trailer a vehicle, how do you get out of the thing without crawling out the window--after you get it loaded? I do not want to be crawling my old lard butt out a Fiero window in front of everyone. Is there a preferred trailer type that has been modified so you can open the driver's door and exit a little more gracefully?

Most auto transports will either have the deck configured such that you can open the door, or like the Uhauls, the fender tilts out of the way.... Third option is to get vertical doors

Don,if you are using a 16 ft trailer, drive it on till you have the rear tires on the trailer. Have a friend chock the wheels, then put it in netural and get out. Roll it forward till it is balanced on the trailer. Set the parking brake, and put it in gear. Tie it down. I've done this many times, 2 times with my Fieros.

Better get to reading--Nothing to it once you get started on it. Get you a few floor jacks, jack stands and a furniture dolly and you set.
You forgot to mention the Cherry picker... Although I suppose it possible to do it all with jacks. I'm going to practice on a couple of parts cars first.
For anyone looking to drop their first cradle...I just found Toddster's Fully illustrated step by step guide, a child could do it with these instructions:

You dont need a cherry picker, thats what the 2 floor jacks are used for. I started using floor jacks about a year ago and it works so much better that the cherry picker. About 1.5 hours working slow and the cradle can be out. Takes a little longer going back in with everything becuase hooking everything back up just takes longer.

Actually cradle drop can be done with one floor jack and a 4 X 4. Place the 4 X 4 under the car cross ways and jack up under it in the middle. But then you don't need to drop the cradle to change a transmission. The transmisson can come out through the wheel well by only dropping the back of the cradle

True, I'm going to start another thread where you guys can help me, so as not to take the round-up thread too far off topic...
drive/roll the last part onto a 2x6 or 2x12. on one side, That will raise the door just enough to clear a rental 16' trailer.......I heard.
Hmmph! Watching YOU crawl out your window just before you left San Angelo is the reason I want to do it differently. That was NOT a graceful exit...... re 'trailer queen'. Fiero probably will not be titled/registered/ or inspected before Roundup, tho it might--since the date has been pushed back till June................

If I come to the show, it will probably be to sell my 87 Fiero GT. Is anyone interested in buying another one? I had to replace it as a Daily Driver and I don't have the facilities to store it properly. I'd rather see it in the hands of a loving owner than in the carport of my apt. complex getting neglected and possibly vandalized by neighborhood kids. I'd like to keep it as a project car, but right now that doesn't seem to be a viable option.

Revin, you can anything you want about this old man but you better be careful when talking about my "Russian Chick" wife. She is legally licensed by Texas to carry a concealed handgun (and DOES!) and now she has decided to change professions and is studying ............
LAW!
Dr. F practicing!
BTW - For this remark, I think the first pitcher of margaritas is on YOU!

Been a little quite! Like to here from more of you. Going to be a great time to see old friends, make some new ones and taste a little of old San Antonia.
revin is paid up with entry and hotel ! I am sure Fussell is as well so that makes...

Hey Revin, look at Robert White's post (AAFO) above. There's a total of 3 of us for the Round Up. Don't know about the hotel, though. Maybe Sharon has given Mike his allowance by now and we will have 4! At this rate, we can have the Round Up in a phone booth (kinda like Obama supporters in Texas, hehehehe).
