Rick,

I tend to agree, but don't have the experience base you do. I wrote the guy he's sending more info on the car and the swap--I'll post it.

What do you think?

Very nice! The badge looks great. I have got to get some more pics of my car posted someday. I notice you have the same hood alignment issues I do when it is hot my hood fits perfectly, but when it is cold it lifts up at the back. Another Mera exclusive.

Rodney has a solution for that--he puts weights om the corners when it's stored. After a while it fits great.

I wonder if it is better to do that during the winter? How much weight can you safely put on the hood corners?

This one is the only 88 Mera I have, the other two are 87's.
Built on a Formula the car has a five speed transmission, T-Tops installed at the Mera production line and is NOT CJB documented. I would have to dig up Rodneys e-mail but as I recall it is 191 build.Without looking I can't say when the car (Formula config) was shoved off the Fiero line. It is all original except for tires and the battery and fluids. Still runs R-12 in the A/C with only normal service. I am either the third or fourth owner of the car and I think but am not certain when new the car was purchased in Indy. With just over 60K on the clock it still drives as new. It is also the first place winner (not best of class-a real let down for me) at the 25th aniversary show. Find a copy of the DVD of the 25th for an interview and more shots of the car in a walk around, it is also in the 25th aniversary book near the middle of the pages. I did get with the car all the original badging with the exception of the nose emblem, the prior owner to me lost it somewhere. While being the newest of the three I have it is also the higher miler of the group. I don't have pics of the others to this extent at this time but that may change because I need to rearange the barn to get in another Camaro, it sure got tight fast in there.

All for now. . . . .

I understand he did it in the winter--I would think summer would be better. And, I think he used wheels on the corners! Don't know if he put a block under the center.

Comments back on this car:

"Richard, Here is info from ad and current pictures we have---if you need more info call me at 260-724-8292 off or 260-433-8292 cell! Thanks, Dan Shaffer

1988 PONTIAC FIERO GT COUPE, 2 Dr Fastback Coupe,Custom installed 3400cc V-6,auto,air,tilt,cruise,power windows, power locks, power steering, power brakes,AM/FM Cassette,Custom 2 tone Cloth Interior,Chrome GM update Alloys,New Tires,Spoilers Front & Rear,Custom Stripes. This Custom Fiero GT is a "One of a Kind" and it is Show Quality! The Conversion is very well done and it drives outstanding! This is the last year the Fiero was built and also the lowest production year! Over $10,000 invested to build. Our Price $4995

Richard, Yes we own the car but we are not Northwest! The car was traded in to a new car dealership and that is where we got it so as far as the motor swap info I will try to get that for you. This is a 3400 out of a 2002 Monte Carlo w/o turbo. I'll do some checking and get back with you! Thanks, Dan Shaffer

Richard, I wasn't able to find out any further info as of yet on the Fiero Conversion. The miles on the car is accurate at 63000---the motor was to have had 42000 when removed from the Monte Carlo. We will be selling this car as miles exempt for the fact it has had an engine swap and the fact that when the new car store traded they sell all cars over 10 years old as exempt. I will still try to chase down previous owner to get more info! Thanks, Dan"

Richard, ask for pictures of the engine compartment. If it is a 3400 vs a 3.4 PR it will look different than stock. If that is not an issue, it shoud even have more power. Also ask for pictures of the sheet metal inside the trunk. They can pull the carpet back on the sides. That will show if it has any rust issues. Being a dealership you may be able to negotiate a better deal. Odds are they over allowed on the Fiero against the new vehcile and own it for less. I like what I see so far. It looks to be a nicely done car.

Resto Guy,
Very nice 88. I don't have the paint markings under my decklid or the small rectangular label with the numbering. Can you elaborate on these. I noticed you are missing the emissions hose routing label that mine has. On mine it is a photocopy of what appears to be a factory label held on with a thick clear tape. I can see the shadow of where your was mounted.

Your car is also different on the inside compared to mine. I guess all Mera's not built on GT platforms use Formula wheels. Also my car has the factory leather seats in the beechwood color. If this is you high mileage Mera, how nice are the 87's? I want to take a peek in your barn!!

Summer seems to be the best time. Wheels seem way too heavy for the fiberglass. I was thinking 1 gallon plastic water bottles placed on the hood corners. I imagine a small wooden or rubber block in the center would be a good idea as well.

sup fellas??? what ya all been up too?? i got to go read....just poppin in real quick.
i had what they call "ScareWare". i got rid of it so far....on my own. thats what took so long.
i did it for free, tho. so we will see. dam "MY SPACE" i was listening to a friends band making breakfast and i come back to the computer and this "System Tool" website or something is on there saying i have 36 problems. BULLSH@T.....they say they can fix it, buy the software.....and bam! the thing is THEY ARE THE BUG!!! like i cant figure that much.....bloody bastards! so i shut off the Wireless internet and start searching and scrubbing. it was a pop up/cookie/definition/update thing.

come to find out i run Windows XP because of a music player i use....and it was cheap, anyway....it seems they want me off XP and on to the "great new stuff" and they stopped "Updating" automatically the XP versions of the "Special Service Packs". i had SP2...but i needed to update to SP3, manually. THANKS FOR TELLING ME..... MICROSOFT DING DONGS. well thru the back door i got a scan off that helped identify the problem and bingo......i have a update. the little padlock icon disappears and i got MAIL!!!!whoopie. lucky i did not smash it.

so i got some readin to do........later.

Daniel

That's when you turn off your browser--if you have to, use "Ctrl-Alt-Delete"

I am using WIN95, WIN98, XP, and VISTA--I like XP the best.

The quick and maybe the best "fix" is "System Restore"--find it in Accessories, System Tools. It will take you system back to a "good" load--unless there's some really sophisticated malware in there like Root Kit stuff.

awwwww man!!! that Top Gear usa show (ya see it?) was recorded 44.75 miles from my house! Dam. it would have been cool to let Tanner see my Mera.....oh and to ask him if he would be willing to take that challenge, i proposed a long time ago.

i got a Quote from FieroX saying he could whip a Veyron to a 1/4 mile. that would be cool. now Tanner is in a Fiero.....by his own choice? man i almost saw that comming.....not the "filmed in MI part", tho.....Man, that sucks.

its starting to sink in.....the potential i feel i missed. the opportunity to talk more SH*T......on national TV. ahhhhh......thats how i sleep at night. the coulda, woulda, shoulda.......maybe this is NOW the time to strike.....get a little Fiero uproar to see if we can get a rematch!

I look at Mike for the Meras.....unless you want to work a deal. Hey Mikey??? you build em but do you have/need a Driver?
i am down.....

Dan, when it is hot my hood lines up perfectly. It is when it's cold that it lifts up at the rear corners. My car is like me, it does not like the cold.

Aloha guys, happy holidays. Been a while so let me catch up!

Mike, really liked those hood ornaments....need to get me a couple of them!!

Dan, the ghost pics were a bit spooky...but cool!

Indiana, finally! Nice pics of a nice Mera! Question: What does the "#562" refer too? T-Top install??

Dick, nice tennis ball. Use the same technique for the wife's SUV. I wonder what causes that hood tip to come up like that? Being warm all year around, I've never seen that on my Mera. I'm thinking what may be needed is a dual catch system, like they have on the C4 Corvettes. Would probably take some engineering effort to design though. Delete the existing center catch, and install the catch at each corner.

Wow, I am not normally a fan of two-tone cars, but this one with the gloss black on the bottom, really makes the car look longer/sleeker. I think it would look perfect if the headlights and hood grill were red instead of black. I think it takes it a little over the top, but to each their own. Other than that, it really looks sharp. Would also look better if lowered a tad. That reminds me, next opportunity I get, I need to remove all the tires and spray paint the wheel liners black.

Dan, nice hood ornament. What's all that white stuff?

Later guys!
Tom

Tommy!!! this white sustance is what the locals call HELL!!!
its a form of water but when its frozen.
you may have noticed it on some of your more Northern locales and/or on top of larger Mountains during your International Excursions. hahahhaaa......

i know, is that Ferrari not the bomb?? thats the Pic i found a long time ago that makes me want to 2 tone Mera X.
which like you stated Tom, already has the red light covers.....i agree black only on the sides.
i have toyed with the idea of a black hood and rear deck lid. i have yet to PhotoShop anything tho.

hey Rick?? thats why i posted the 308.....them rims remind me of that photo you sent me.
do you think that the Ferrari 308 i posted, has the Compmotives??

i would scoop a set if not too pricey? but, they are tho, right??
i am most likely going for new wheels this comming Spring.

i got some of the OEM Turbo Fins.....that i think my car RPO's to have had before the Mera Conversion.
i have pics in this thread somewhere. i think they look good with the Mera body. i will have more later on this.

time for Breakfast.....

I'm lovin' that back deck....... fits similar to the real deal.

Oh.... what the heck is the deal with the mera hoods pulling up in the cold? I've never seen such a thing. Must be the top skin is contracting more than the original structure.

Dan, I am sure the Ferrari has Compomotives but they are a different bolt pattern than the Mera. I think I have a link to a guy selling some reproductions that will bolt right on the Mera. I am not sure of price and condtion but I will check for you.

From the picture is appears to have the door handle and rear deck like the Stinger, but the front looks more 328 than 308. Did they make 328 Stingers too? The listing is no longer active,

On the Mera hoods, it seems to be an issue with these cars during cold weather. How is the hood secured on yours?

Wow, I am not normally a fan of two-tone cars, but this one with the gloss black on the bottom, really makes the car look longer/sleeker. I think it would look perfect if the headlights and hood grill were red instead of black.

Tom, there is a pic of a white Mera done this way in this thread. I like it too. It gives the car a "Boxer" look. I guess it does not get cold enough there for your hood to lift. It really is odd. but in hot weather mine fits perfectly.

Mine uses the factory latch and I've never had an issue with the hood corners pulling up like that. That's wierd.

The 328 skin is bonded to the fiero hood shell. Am I correct that the Fiero panels are SMC?
