over $17,000 really!?? feels good to have a "maybe" Mera under $10,000 i guess. if this Testa' had a larger V6 or a V8, of course, but the 2.8?? uggg!

Given that there was only one (1) Testarossa Spyder ever made, this one lacks creds!

Spent a nice (70 degrees) Sunday afternoon wrenching under the Mera. The starter solenoid was getting intermittent. Installed a new starter I had on the shelf, and did a general under car inspection. I'm going to rebuild the old solenoid and keep the starter as a back up. Next is a throttle body service, oil change, plug inspection, and new plug wires, cap and rotor. Another New Mexico cruise is in the not too distant future.

Dan, that is my buddy Jeff's car. He is downsizing his fleet. The car is very quick, but I am not an automatic guy. Those wheels were originally on my yellow 88 GT. They are ALT AT 148's (17x7.5.) I don't think they are in production anymore. I bought them because they were different and looked great on the Fiero. The only thing I might do is install a quieter muffler on it. I used to like loud but not so much anymore. It is a nice build and would be a dependable car.

I know you would not do it, but it would be easier to buy the car and swap your body panels onto it. You would get all the 88 suspension, and brake upgrades in the process. You could be driving in a couple of days.

i would low ball a Kit 308 tho....and fake that its my Mera X thats weird, no??
that Finale Kit above would be a contender if i could ever, spend that much.
i actually had to think hard about ole' Katataks XTC w/ a 4.9 if i remember, right??
i just cant "feel" that Kit.....but i could swap low grade 308 panel finds and fake the Mera funk......
but i can drive a fast Fiero also. not afraid one bit and welcome the "......bloody Fiero"
its the same as with a Mera but upon take off they change their tune and shut said mouth

Just removed the heater core from #8044. Hayes manual was a bit misleading, but found what looks like a great write-up on the forum--Fiero Heater Core Replacement by RWDPLZ--after I did the job, of course. Actually, this is the first car I've done where the job was really quite easy.

You'll be sorry you asked. I was tail-gating this jerk in an SUV on an on-ramp going way too slow to merge. He ran over some HUGE truck tire treads that, of course, I didn't see and couldn't avoid. They beat the s*** out of the underside of the car, and I immediately smelled the smell. I knew I had ruptured a coolant line, but I needed to get off the freeway, so watching the temp gauge closely, I continued on--and on, and on, and on. Temp gauge never flickered. After a couple months, I got tired of the smell and investigated. Well, seems as though my G'daughter had left a small pillow at her feet and it collected the drip, drip, drip of a leaking heater core, and it went unnoticed. Inspected the underside--no evidence of damage. "It's left up to the student" to figure out how running over the treads busted the heater core. Anyway, I bought a cheap aluminum, that's alloy for Julian, core on the web for about $35 including shipping. Hey, who needs a heater in AZ--can't say the same for Mal Paso, brrrr.

Sorry, Rick, but you guys get some really cold weather--"but it's a dry cold." OBTW, I'm tempted to get hold of katatak re his car--is it a good one?

Another note: If you do this job, the hard part is getting the hoses off the core nipples. Don't fret about it, just break off the nipples then crush and fish the broken ends from the hoses.

I have a strange feeling we have not heard the end of MERA's in the Fiero Focus Magazine. Keep an eye on the next issue. I also think there could be a nice write up on Meras Across America Rally if we get involved with their group.!

Proves my point though, even the cows are trying to leave Texas. Even if they have to hitch hike out.

Actually the population of Texas is increasing, in spite of Rick Perry at the helm. Any other state want this guy? Sheesh

3.4 is running great. I am considering the TLG dual T/B intake for the motor. I'm waiting for Yellowstone to give me the seat of the pants review. Currently I have an issue with one of my brake calipers that will need to be addressed. 88 calipers are a pain to work on. One of the rear calipers has an audible knocking sound when cold under braking, and becomes totally quiet when it warms up.

HA! i guess i should have entered....the title made me think it was the engine. sorry.
i like the metal expansion/contraction theroy!! brake calipers and the such....under braking will heat fast, too.
hope its just a caliper thing. with the one side acting flakey with the uneven wear.....thats screams volumes to me
good luck!! and them TLG duals may see my Mera, too......is Yellowstone using a 2.8L or a 3.4L for the test....and you got a link??

His engine is a 2.8 The car is currently getting lots of updates. According to what I have read, the intake will improve performance even more on a larger 3.4.

ARGGGGGGG!
I had to do it but it's killing me! I had to reinstate my insurance $$$ and take the Mera out of storage
Thank goodness its 34 degrees, sunny and dry out, but I still don't like it, and it was confused by that white stuff in the fields??
Had to explain this is not sand like it was used too in Pittsburg Texas where I bought it from. That's right you Texas Strangers, my
car came from...shudder...Texas, but at least it had the good sense to get out
Get this, my oldest son has my truck; his is unsafe to drive because he has it lifted to the second story, and has off road tires on it.
Then my youngest son "lent" his car to his girl friend; because her car can't go two miles without overheating, soooooo he has my car!
I really don't remember putting my folks through this, but then again, we only had the one horse.

P.S. At idle I am getting a voltage light on, then once it revs up it goes out?

Wayne, west Texas cars are rust free, because they don't have to deal with that flakey white stuff you Eskimo's live with. The voltage light coming on is it's way of telling you that it's homesick, and wants to go back to TEXAS! Either that, or your alternator is taking a crap.......

I could give it a good home where the Mera's can roam,,,,,,

Waynum, I believe the internal regulator in you alternator is the culprit. 88 alternators can sometimes be hard to find. If you are trying to keep the car original, a local rebuilder can make it good as new. They are a pain to get out, but the manual cars are easier than the autos as there is more room to work.
