"Old Guys" ....... I resemble that remark

I drive my Mera almost daily (unfortunately mostly to work). We did drive it to Gunnison Colorado for the annual car show there. It was about at 1300 mile round trip. Most times I have to fly in order to make the most of my vacation time.

As Maxwell Smart use to say ..... "missed it by THAT much"

I'm not old yet, I'm only 51 and my car has 120,000 on the chassis and 40,000 on the engine.

Hey does anyone care to start up a Facebook page? It's a hell of a lot better chatting & posting on FB than in here. We could keep both but I was thinking the FB page was strictly for Mera owners and not open to general public.

Give me your FB information & I'll start the invite list.

Wayne,

I am an older guy but have more than 215,000 miles on my show Mera. The others vary from 60,000 to 120,000. I actually like to drive them but have only done a 2000 mile trip once. The others generally are about 1000 - 1200 round trip.

Nelson, jog my memory, but are you the same guy I knew back in 2000 or so who had a silver Mera and sold it to buy a real Ferrari?

I know you as the Nelson on here with all the Mera's but I think I also knew another Nelson back then..... help me out.

HA!! thats why we have Mera......these cars can take the miles in stride. Ferrari's on the other hand

low guys with old mile Mera NEED to drive their cars more!!! i have had 2 1/2 driving seasons and tipped 10,000 miles driven.
thats what its all about.....RICK more than half of this kind of vacation is driving.....plus you and that new swap.
darn you, man!!! get it done!!

my inital intensions were to get all of us to HAVE TO DRIVE MORE THAN a few hundred miles, thats what "road trips" are.

my old plan was a route 66 blast, agumented to the SW desert for contact with our drit merchant, Mera comrades in the "Box".
a call from the local mini-mart, should get ya, good

good ole Mera #7071, is in OKC with #8019 so thats a start for Mera sightings and photos
then, ManVSFood says Tulsa OK and a Puffy Taco challenge needs beatin by Mera X and its driver!!
so i may have started there for me

i can put a few iteneries togeather for regional meets and maybe a couple in like 2 places and a one place, winner takes all, blowout.

the one spot location would most likely be Kansas or OKC if Meras 7071 and 8019 should reveal.
i can get Mike Maybe. but like Tom, hes dissappeared too

I said it once and I'll say it again...... in my next life I want to come back as Nelson.

Dan, how many Mera's do you think we can get for a local MI rally? I know some are no longer in the forum and may have lost touch.

Also Dan, what is the May 5th weekend like for you?

Julian,

That was not me. I have one Mera that has a gunmetal gray with pearl paint scheme but that is the closest that I can come to your description. As of this moment I have never sold a Mera but did sell a red F308 rebody.

Not so fast Dan!! I am here!

Hey guys, a big aloooooooha and happy holidays! I've been busy with work and home, wife had major surgery, but I do read each and every post (thanks to my new android phone). Hope everyone is well.

Don't get a chance to drive the Mera much, especially since my 88GT is down hard and parked right behind it. I have the dreaded "loose screws" in the steering column, and its pretty bad so until I fix it, I can't get the Mera out of the garage. LOL...I kinda feel bad for my Mera, it really needs a better home!

LOL...so what's the average age of a Mera owner? I'm 56, which is a kinda wierd age...motor still runs good, but transmission ain't keeping up with the revs, if you know what I mean!

Later,
Tom

thats it hippies!! sound off.....who is interested in A/one/singular meet??
who thinks maybe three?? Indy, SC and Maybe somewhere in NewMexico for the desert Rats

Nelson and Indy have the best "spots" for the multiple Mera, so unless they are not able to participate them 2 locations should be considered......Indy for the north east.....SC for the lower and beyond. i want to get the hell out of the MidWest but will accomidate, whatever!!

921 mi, 15 hours 27 mins includes back tracking to Shelbyville.....a little
i like that according to YahooMaps that Nelson is only 15 1/2 hrs away.
its the milage between Indy and Columbia that starts to drag the whole thing. start at #6001 Friday....hall the mail to Indy. Saturday blast to Knoxville, Sunday at Nelsons......leave late sunday rest half way, home monday after 6 pm or so 4 days. Fri-Mon...just a thought and some numbers to start

324 mi, 5 hours 32 mins
#6001 to Indy-Resto-Guy

591 mi, 9 hours 53 mins
Indy to Nelson's stash

now i got no Mera as i type, but HOPE to have a rebuild or a 3.4L by then, Job willing.

so i have delusions of grandure, but i usually get my way.
so i want to hit all the East Coast ones if possible, so a Mera Day per say is more like a Mera Weekend

but its now back to Julian for the update......

Tom, nice to hear from you ...... Always nice hearing from the founder of the thread that went viral on Pennock's.... the owner of the REAL Mera in Paradise. Aloha

Dan, I don'tthink anyone has the energy like you.... I would have to say that this thread is at page 112 but if you were not here Dan, I would say we still would be around page 50. Not to say that the rest don't chat but take a look at the year Dan joined and see how many posts he has.... nuf said... keep it going Dan-da-man.

Well I will stand firm if anyone wants to do a local Rally in Ohio-Michican-Indiana area. I don't mind going 100 miles to a rally but I am not one to drive, and drive. I'm an old 51 year old with a wife who has more shoes for one weekend than can fit in my Mera's trunk (as I mentioned before). Dan, since you have the energy and drive, maybe you can be the catalyst who touches all the Rally points......

I like the previous idea of meeting near the MI-OH border (Say Toledo) and driving north to Capac, (a little over 2 hours) then dinner in Port Huron. Stay overnight and the next day a drive back the way we came and we slowly branch off home.

Anyone in the North East up for that? Or something similar?

So here is a rough idea that is open to suggestions and constructive critisism...........

Meet in Toledo for lunch (A)........ cruise up to Capac MI (B) 2 hrs 20 min... we can take a senic route rather than through downtown Detroit.
Pay homage to Bob Bracey and Corporate Concepts....photo ops.... then drive 30 minutes to Port Huron (C) for dinner..... get a room overnight.
Next morning we cruise into Canada (passport required)..... cut across Ontario to the north shore of Lake Erie (E) 1 hr.... very senic route, non highway (E-F)..... awsome places to eat fish,,,
So we start after breakfast and by noon we should be eating lunch somewhere on the north shore near Canada's southern most point (F) on the 42nd parallel, further south than half the US states including California - serious...look it up....
After lunch is a slow cruise following the Detroit River north to Windsor (G) where you will get the best photo op of the Detroit skyline and the GM HQ building... (see September issue of Fiero Focus)
LOL - sorry, just had to throw that in
Then back to Toledo (A) by 5pm and everyone makes their way back home.

That is a full fun packed 2 days with minimal long distance driving and a lot of photo ops and great food, not to mention that it would be INTERNATIONAL! Starts at noon in Toledo and ends the next day at 5pm in Toledo.

Dan I expect you to plan out your idea and post it.... who knows, I may reconsider.... After all these are just ideas until we get drivers to say "yes".

but no passport for me, ever. unless its to defect but one is not needed then, sorry.

the long trip for me would be to Shelbyville, IN and back. it is supposed to be a reunion

Tom! Great to hear from you.

I had the loosies in my '87 and Pontiac wanted $300 to fix it. I called a steering column ignition lock specialist who did the job for $60--and she came to me. Look in the yellow pages.

Dodged the bullet today. In a weakened state of Midwest gloom, with the Mera in storage I almost bought another car!!!!!!
It was close, I was at the auction (I have a Dealer Pass), and this 1996 Mercedes SL350R came up in lane 12, clean, low miles...but two things kept me from pulling the trigger:
1) It was bid up past its wholesale value, and even at that the seller wanted more-No Sale
2) When I watched it pull into the lane all I could think; "This is an Old Mans Car, a rich Old Man, but still a Old Man."
Buying this would have met I would have to sell both the Mera and my "Road Car" the 93' MB 300SE (The Panzer).
Maybe I should stick some 21 inch Dubs on the Panzer, keep the Mera, stay away from the auction, and last but not least, let my heir's fight over them!

P.S. I am getting the feeling that "chronologically" I might be the senior member here? Though my wife claims I really am only 12.

Well whats wrong with that?
It's not like were out with hookers, playing pool in a pinch back suite, and talking about horse racing!
Or worse taking hands full of drugs, oh, wait a moment, I do that now, at least I "think" I do?
I'll get back to you on that, its time for my prunes & warm milk.

It's ok, I just remind her about how she acts around shoes, purses, and diamonds. Plus, she has three cars of her own! As for other vices, I don't smoke, gamble, chase women (might look a bit) , and I don't drink much. My wife can put me under the table drinking Margaritas. Tequila kicks my a** in the morning, and my wife wakes up just fine. Go figure.......

Adolescence is not a phase, it's a philosophy.

OBTW, rest easy, I'm probably older--13.

Though my wife claims I really am only 12.

to save pain and more suffering you could leave Mera #8002 to me.
i will place it next to Mera #7002 and call it "our" collection.

as far as any Mercedes is concerened....if it dont say AMG it aint for me

Leezard....if you aint got a car its best you travel to IN for the Mera throwdown.
you could fly to cut the distance/time thing down too, thats nice.
its not set but thats the one i would campaing for. that and/or the anything with the Prototype, involved.

You wouldn't want my bright shinny (numbered) Mera sitting next to your old, dusty, rusty (UN-Numbered) "Kit Kar" would ya?
Shucks Dan, I got a better idea; I am leaving you all my old debts & threats to attend to old buddy

P.S. You also have to kill the "Litter Box Boyz" pet snake too.

Wow....kit car???? them's fighting words....LOL

OK just an update on the Mera Across America Rally (MAAR) Idea...... since there is no military draft and Dan has no passport, nor does he care to visit a country that allows women to walk around topless in public (did I forget to mention that before?).... I will rework another idea and get back to you all.

However on a different note, some time this summer I plan a treck up to Capac.... (not to do with MAAR)... you in for the ride Dan? Anyone?

I know your correct when you say UP to Capac from Canada, but it just sounds funny.
I may be in your neck of the woods this Spring/Summer. The magazine I write for, Road Runner, had me listed to do a ride (motorcycle) around Lake Erie last year, but because my photographers wife contracted cancer, he wouldn't go, so it "might" be on for this year. Now last year I did do a ride around the state of Michigan from Muskegon to Port Sanlac, and Danny Boy said he would hook up with us but never did...huh, I see a pattern here...talks about going places but never does? You don't think he is really a prisoner is some maximum security lock-up, having Wet Mera Dreams? That would explain why they wont give him a passport, well if doesn't show this Summer, then we will know the truth!
Danny, Danny, Danny, you deceptive dog you.

The best spot for me would be at my place up in Pendleton. While I can't offer a 3br. house, I can offer plenty of camping area to pitch tents (or you could sleep in the garage, bring your own cot) with running water, work area, campfire pit. electric and possible inside plumbing and kitchen if there isn't a tennant in the efficency apt.. Saves a little time off the drive to Shelbyville and maybe some time off to S.C. but not much. just give notice.

That's a nice ride, I need a passport now to get into Can-ada now. . . . . . didn't used to as it's been a while ( 15 years give or take).
Dan, I just plan to visit, not to move.

Hi Tommy, I hope your done playing with knives!!
I have a Mera for you to drive if you want to come and take a few days off in the mainland.

Resto guy... passport not required to come to friendly Canada...... But you'll need one to get back into the USA! lol good ol' homeland security where it's like crossing at Checkpoint Charlie yet you can take a boat across the river with all the contraband anyone wants and a few Mexicans too. One day they'll figure out a way to put a fence nown the middle of the water.

Wayne, I'm 100% all over that.... you tell me when you're coming through MI and we'll hook up to ridr to Capac. I think the only bad month for me may be June. I have the first 3 weekends booked organizing a festival in Windsor. Called the Carrousell of Nations. http://www.carrouselofnations.ca/

I don't get my assignments until March, then I will know where they will be sending me. I will let you know when I do.

Dan: Why would someone have only a body kit, did it come off a car, OR was it never put on a car? Strange.

actually rumor has it that #8045 is a shell in HI with Tommy. never did find that guy......Hummmmm??

well.....i think its a Kit. it does say it was off an 1986 Fiero, first give away.
the weird thing is a "kit" with the Reverse lights. unless the guy is frugal with money and uses the White back-up as a cost cutting measure.
A "Mera Replica" thing.....after finding that a Mera could leave the CC Factory without "Fords" it clouds the Real Mera identifying marker and also tells the "Kit" maker how to get around the, Carello F-Car preimum.

but, with the limited supply of OEM Mera 1 tails its about a wash, no??

Dan,

Just remember that I have a supply of OEM Mera tail lights (more red than amber but they are available if anyone needs some).
