I had been looking for a while for a dyno test of a VVT engine, comparing how well the engine operated with the VVT active and with it locked out, Shaun at MAST Motorsports did that with a L92 GEN IV "LS" from what I've read it's a stock cam, the two charts below both have the VVT enabled in one graph, the other graph is the cam locked out at peak torque, and peak HP. In *THIS CASE* it appears as though VVT is worth about 10% on either extreme, theoretically, installing the cam locked out somewhere in between should result in about a 5% loss at either extreme. it looks like there's lots of area under the curve to be had with VVT, which could translate to the engine coming into boost much sooner as well. I reached out to MAST to see if they have any recommendations for me, and if they saw similar results with aftermarket cams with more lift, duration, and overlap.
