So your saying that California should be able to dictate how people in Ohio live? The entire reason for the electoral system is to keep states that have larger populations from dictating how the country is ran. Remove the electoral system and those states with the higher populations will dictate how every other state is ran.
Its not perfect but its much better than the alternative.
In the 2020 election, Ohio had 18 electors. Wyoming had 3. California had 55. Would you like to explain how Ohio and Wyoming dictate how California lives?

We've got the same issue in Canada, with most of the population located in Ontario and Quebec. However, we can't have a province like Prince Edward Island with a population of 173,954 having as much say in the country's affairs as Ontario, with a population of 15,386,407. That just wouldn't make any sense. So we try and have relatively equal representation in Parliament based on population numbers per riding.
British Columbia has a population of 5,399,118, and as much as I'd like my province to have the same pull regarding national affairs as MEM's province of Ontario... it's not going to happen, nor should it with 1/3 the population.
