Wow, $2,500 a month net is nearly $40k excluding all other costs. I don't make near that much, and neither do million and millions of other Americans. Plus, for the increase in food costs you should subtract out other mandatory expenses first before figuring how much of the net disposable paycheck is being eaten away (no pun intended). After all, this is a consumer economy, so every dollar more spent on food is a dollar less spent in the rest of the economy by the majority of wage earners.
The more money one makes, the lower the number of course, but way, way more people make less and less. That number gets bigger, and fast, because energy and housing costs don't go down proportionally with income so the amount left to actually spend on food is shrinking.

I think this is where much of the frustration towards food cost arises. There are so many things that have skyrocked (such as the price of gas, home heating costs, etc) and in order to keep up with the extra expenses people are having to tap into $$$ that would normally be used for their grocery bill. I personally don't think food costs have "skyrocked" as some here have said, but I'm sure it appears that way when someone has to try and buy as much food this month as they did last month using less money.
There really isn't much that people can do. As stated in this thread already, watch for the good sales and become a coupon cutter.

FINE! Use the $2000/month figure. If you say you don't make near that much, you're probably on food stamps and can sit this one out on the bench with Bill.
We'll take my figures:
I took home $4400/month last year. I spent $1100 a month on food for a family of 4. 25% of my take home pay went to food. (That's about 12.5% more of my income that I used than you did for you, yourself)
This year, I made $4500/month. Food costs went up 7% and I paid $1175/month for food. My food bill increased a whooping 1% more bite of my income a month. $75 a month more. I guess I could cut in half the amount of steak I have in a week to once a week.
You think the higher cost of food is taking a huge bite out of your ass, but when you crunch the numbers, it isn't really. . . . . . . Steve, you're getting government funds. There's a cost of living increase that is suppose to keep up with inflation.

Exacty! Prices have gone up across the board but certain thugs on the forum who see through rose colored glasses dont see it as a problem because their lives are just... well rose colored.
The "I dont have a problem so shut up and quit complaining." comments from egocentric a-hole gallery. Their comments are about as useless as a boat anchor in a desert.

But bill is smart by leaching off others and not working. He's already said that people who work are stupid sheeple. Its a shame he doesn't lose his gash cow and really have to feel the burden of being poor. Of course he still lives with mommy so she will nurse him along some more.

Its your own fault bill. Not that it matters you'll just get high to dull the pain that is your self imposed miserable life.
I have read your posts for years now...... the one thing I have noticed is that you like to fight on PFF. Is that your only hobby? I hope not, that would be sad I make as much or less than you do, and I still manage to feed myself. I just watch the adds that a few stores give out and pick the best deals. I also supplement my diet with deer meat. I kill and butcher it myself, no cost, just work. Is that to pricey for you??? Or just too much work???
Wait.........Its your hobby, I understand.

Bill makes a perfectly good point and it seems you are the willing example that proves his point. Fredbear states it is bills hobby to question or cause arguements but so what. Is your hobby being an ass just so you can fight with Bill?

No, My hobby is calling a spade a spade. The truth is right in that post. Sometimes you need to be an ass to point out the truth.
Well I just assumed it was a hobby. If you're an expert then you're an expert. So I guess I agree that sometimes one does need to be an ass to point out the truth.
Keep trolling Skanc.... Keep trolling... just a little more... almost there...
Whats you point bill? Trying to play the woeful victim again. You act like you are innocent and troll. Thats right your point is its ok for bill to do it and then play the victim. Just calling me skanc is a troll. Maybe I should do like you and cry to Cliff about it.
I have a ukraine girl friend and go to the ukraine and other countries ,FOOD cost about the same as here, only bread cost less..but the average wage is $250.00 a month rent is cheap but rising dramatically.only 5% of the people have a car, every one rides the bus or walks..The ladies are trim and in good shape,,firm buttocks.. I had a good job but my company closed there office here ,now I make halve what I use to, I buy day old bread ,shop vegetable market..shop big lots(excellent food values), and save a lot food store,.. there prices are sometimes halve of the price albertsons would charge,, I went to groznny cheznnyia 3 years ago,to visit my buddy Dubo. not much food at the store, really expensive,, and the running fire fight on the street made me nervous..left first donkey cart out of there.. keep a 3 month supply of can food ,,,6 month better
What really bugs me about these sort of investigations and court cases: They are found guilty, and fined enormous sums of money, which they can no doubt write off via tax dodges, etc...AND WHERE DOES THAT FINE THAT IS EVENTUALLY PAID, GO??. YES, YOU GOT IT!! TO THE GOVERNMENT...who then do what the heck they like with it. It sure as he!! doesn´t go to the injured parties, does it? If anybody knows differently, then please let me know !! Nick
In the US, fines and penalties are not allowed as deductions. I don't know about the UK. You're right about where the revenue goes, straight to the government coffers and the people see little if any of it. Here, there are often class action suits filed on behalf of many injured parties and while they might cost the company some considerable money, the amount to any one individual is usually miniscule.

yes, I agree 100% that the increase in food prices is small. the problem is EVERYTHING has gone up in price. for the same reasons: fuel/energy costs. EVERYTHING takes fuel & energy to produce. services use fuel & energy to perform their servcies. and, with EVERYTHING going up in price - and NONE of it due to inflation - there is no increase in wages. yes, by itself, I agree - food costs increase is minor - but it is not alone.
Food, especially dairy, is going sky high because they have to compete for the damn corn to feed the cattle. These idiots are making worthless ethanol plants that use unfathomable amounts of corn to produce fuel and have driven the price of many food products through the roof. Ontop of that the fuel absolutely useless and probably accounts for less than 1% of our nationwide need.

I'd like to nominate it for the DUMBEST POST made this year! $12.50 for gas/electricity/dish soap per meal?
I'm suppose to not remark when a woman makes a fuking STUPID COMMENT? I should respect the fact that they're women and that would be perfectly acceptable for them to make a completely STUPID, UNEDUCATED, UNTHOUGHT-OUT Comment?
Okay Cliff. Call me on that. I answered.
