I was talking with my dad today about how i dont have a door chimer, how i wanted to get a furby and wire it into the door chimer lol or a doll that says mommy or something lloll. He suggested using a something he heard in a new yorker or something out of the 80's that had a japanese sounding woman that would tell you to fasten your seat belts or to close the door etc. Any body know exactly what year this was or anything else similar with voice?

TIA!

My father had one in his 300zx. I think it was about an 86 model.

I have an 87 chrysler new yorker, the voice is an electronic sounding man. it says
"please fasten your seatbelts"
"a door is ajar"
"your washer fluid is low"
"your fuel is low"
"your engine oil pressure is low, prompt service is required"
"your engine is over-heating, prompt service is required"
"your electrical system is malfunctioning, prompt service is required"
"your headlights are on"
and maybe a few other things.

i can maybe get a sound clip of it for you if you want

edit, i also had a mechanic tell me a few years back that there is a way to change the language the computer speaks, i have not found a way to do it, but i also dont have a factory repair manual for the car.

This is something I'd like to do too. You can get the voice modules on eBay sometimes. I think it's very do-able with a little patience and some taps off the blue box in the passenger's side footwell.

ive had new yorkers for 4 years (my first one overheated and the head warped) and the voice never gets annoying, i would much rather hear that than annoying beeps and buzzes.

as for the module, i believe i have one in my basement off my old car.

I will try and get some sound clips this weekend.

edit.... by the way my dashboard will be out soon to do a heatercore, if i can find a wiring diagram for how it all works i will play around with it and maybe see if i can figure out a way to get it to work in a fiero.

I'd be all for it, if you could program what it said! Be neat to have a hidden button too, to hit that would have the car say something nasty your passenger like, "strange oder emitting from passehgers seat sevice vehical soon," "nice bunns on passenger seat" or whatever. Other than that, I think voices it would get to be anoying just like the "when to shift" lite. Really, if you need a lite to tell you when to shift, get and auto. Pulled the bulb out of mine.

Since your car overheated, somebody wasn't paying attention to the nice man's voice.

If it was my car with a lady's voice I'd be ignoring ALL the warnings...after all, I've been married for 30+ years.

The first one I heard was a Japanese car that said "The key is in the ignition" if you left the keys in it. Thief comes along and it tells him this is an easy one! Must have been a Toyota.

I bet you could use this circuit to do any kind of warning you wanted. Just build a few of them for each warning.

i was thinking about how to do this and i would guess the way to do it with the new yorker box would probably be to hook it up to the idiot lights, keep me posted, im going to play around with this too because i would love to have my car talk like my new yorker.

blehhehuhsfvkjbsvkbsvsvf i didnt tear into that box lol. i got side tracked and started playing bf2142 lol.

Not really reading into schematics or anything yet i think im going to have to wire the idiot lights i somewhat care about as triggers. i think this will be the quickest way for everythign displayed there.
For the washer fluid ill have to find a sensor from a new car and wire it in, not a big deal. I don't think fieros had something like that did they?
I don't know how to go about a fuel trigger?
I can do without the seatbelt alert and defiantly the "your electrical system is malfunctioning, prompt service is required" alert lololololol. My whole car is an electrical malfunction and i don't need another little voice in my head reminding me of it.

It shouldn't be to hard to wire it all up to the "Jappy talky thingy" if there are leads coming out of the box for specific alerts.

just thought of something..... back in the day when i was in elementary or junior high,,, there were these little toys that fit on a key chain called yakback's. I bet the circuitry would be very similar.

Who remembers YackBacks? You recorded yourself saying something, and the you hit play over and over and it would play what you said...over and over. And it could only store one recording at a time.
Most worthless toy ever. By far.
I had one. ""

Sounds like this is gonna be an interesting project. One thing I wonder about:

If you hook the voice module up to the warning / idiot lights, will all the voice warnings sound when you turn on the car or turn the key to the first position ?

I just finished putting a new mounting plate on my guages (in my kitcar) and noticed that the "bulb check" (?) happens when you turn the ignition key to the first position (brake light, check engine light and charge light all come on).

Sounds like Chrysler needed to add another nice man warning..."your engine has overheated, expensive repair required".

Francis T.

You and I do think alike (although a shift light is effective in a race car).

We need a list of alternate or add-on phrases to supplement the basic warnings.

1. "strange oder emitting from passehgers seat sevice vehical soon,"
2. "nice bunns on passenger seat"
3. "Passenger advised to lower side window." (used in conjunctin with #1)
4. "What's a nice girl like you doing in a car like this."
5. "What's a girl like you doing in a nice car like this."
6. "Driver is advised that there is not enough room in here for what you are thinking... so don't even think about it."

etc.
etc.

Technology being what it is now, you can get a chip that will record anything you want and play it back at the push of a button. It would be annoying as heck if it were automatic, but as a prank it would be a riot.

OHHHHHHH, I could have EVIL fun with that !!!!

One of my dreams is to modify a Viper alarm voice ('Please step away from the vehical") into something a little more forcfull.....like "Back off jackass, this car has just armed its Taser defence system"

Hehehehe

6. "Driver is advised that there is not enough room in here for what you are thinking... so don't even think about it."

etc.
etc.

Geek trivia tidbit: That was Majel Barrett Roddenberry (Gene Roddenberry's wife, and the actress that played 'Lwaxana Troi' on ST:TNG) that did the voice of the ship's computer in both the original Star Trek series as well as The Next Generation series...
