I'm really glad folks here are starting to be accounted for. I've been busy helping get my brothers father-in-law tracked down and out of the city myself. But now that he is home safe, my wife and I are opening our doors up to anyone that needs a place now that they have lost everything. Any members here that need someplace to start recovering from, or anyone else, our doors are open to you guys/gals. When the waters start to come down if anyone needs a hand / towrig to get out and pull their car to dryer ground we're here for that too. We'll do whatever we can to help anyone out, I know Columbus is a long ways away, but it is open for anyone and we can help out with transportation too.

I didn't do anything--just searched msg boards & fwding messages around. I believe jscott has borne the brunt of this worrysome time.
Have spent this evening and afternoon looking for news of Dave Kauzlarich, (FieroG97J ) without success, so I went ahead and posted a "looking for"query with IRC's and a couple of other websites. There are just pages and pages of lists out ther, some very well organized, some not much more than a BB but we sould be thankful for the folks that are putting them together.

No, and it needs to be done if at all possible. Especially if someone has a street address to go with the name. Since earlier in the week, there have been online forms you can fill out asking the coast guard, Red Cross, Police and military to search at those addresses for missing people, but you need a name and street address. Privacy is not much a priority under these circumstances IMO. Lives may be in the balance.

I did go through some worrisome time, but it was nothing compared to what they went though. Imagine being trapped in an attic and the water is still rising. Thank God for those good samaritans in boats that went through the neighborhood and brought people to safety.
I was the person that gave Keisha's Mom the good news, that was one call I was more than happy to make. Imagine after 7 days you have heard nothing and suddenly you get this call from a stranger in Houston. I was only too glad to be reporting good news versus what could have been the news.
i don't have much i can do right now to help but i despratly want to. i could donate alot of time to this, though
If you're volunteering, you're elected. Lots of time (and an internet connection) is what it takes. I spent some time looking for names, but there's so many sites to search, it's dizzying.
PM Exotic Rida and see if he can give you any names. I think the most information we have at this point is on page four of this very thread.
Take care--- Jeremy

Most of the Superdome roof structure is intact, just the fabric covering is torn. It probably fared better than the modern stadiums with inflatable roofs, fabric over a space frame, or retractable.
I bet a Cat 5 hitting Houston would rip the roof right off of Reliant Stadium while the Astrodome right next door would be fine.

FieroFetish - this is a response to your message about people's pets. There are three organizations that are currently helping save pets from the danger zone and reunite them with their owners. They are: Noah's Wish based in Placerville, CA; The Humane Society of the United States; and The American Society for the Prevention of Curelty to Animals, based in New York. A temporary shelter has been located in Slidell, LA across Lake Pontchartrain to care for the animals. The Noah's Wish group takes phone calls and e-mails from the refugees in search of their pets, and tries to respond. All three groups have sent volunteers, etc. to the Gulf Coast. Hope this helps. There is nothing worse than to leave a pet behind, not knowing what will happen. It is a known fact that when an individual is going through stress, the presence of a pet helps to relieve the stress and lowers the person's blood pressure. Mary

I think I need to go down an adopt a pet after this. I hear the strays that can't be reunited are going to be up for adoption.

I'm extremely happy to hear about Miss-Tress and 007, Exotic Rida, and the others that have made it out. They have all been on my mind the past few days, as they have been many of yours, and it's a relief to hear that they're safe. On that note....

Don, please let us know if you find something on Dave. Many here may not know about Dave, but to those from the old Fiero Mailing Lists, Dave was well known. He had a collection of Fiero literature that would boggle the mind, along with what seemed to be a stash of never ending, rare parts. I had the distinct pleasure to meet Dave at Ed Parks' first swap meet, and was honored to consider him one of my "Fiero Friends". I hadn't heard from him in a long time, and had forgotten that he lived in Louisiana. So, I'd appreciate it if you'd keep me informed on anything you might find out about him...

Thanks Mary..BigRed88(Ellen) also PM'd me some details of these charities, and I am grateful for the information. I know pets are somewhat down the scale at times of emergency, but they are dependant on Humans to survive...we have made them that way.Of course, People HAVE to take priority at times like this, but even .01% of aid given to animal charities can save many family pets from dying a horrible death too,and maybe enable them to be reunited with their owners at sometime in the future. Please don't get mad at me, folks...I know it is up to the owners,in the main part..but a little help goes a long way.And I have tried to help, in my own small way, both pets and People. Dave lives in Lacombe, about 11 miles west of Slidell (which was basically leveled). We think he was home Sunday night, and haven't heard from him since. Jen has added him to page one of the "Idea to help" thread here: https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/054255.html

Would he perhaps have family (Children/grandchildren?) in Henleyfield Mississippi? About 50 miles NE of Slidell La it looks like.
I found this, and if you think they are related, I'll do a white page search and give them a call tommorrow morning to see if they have any info, assuming they still have ph service.. Oher than this and the posts I made, I have not found anyone else by that last name, either on a safe list or a missing list.
Kauzlarich : Jeff, Lynda, Taylor and Gage---- Henleyfield MS-----Safe at home

I honestly don't know, but how many "Kauzlarich's" could there be?
If you find a number, and are the least bit hesitant to call, send it to me, and I will (Fierotech@knology.net).
Thanks... Jeremy

Thank goodness Tress and 007 are OK. I was worried when we didn't hear anything, esp after hearing they were in the attic and water was rising. I hope we get just as good a news concerning the remaining members yet to be accounted for.
Thanks JScott for the updates. Much appreciated. I can sleep better tonight.
I sent you a box of clothes today, should be there soon. I sent both good shape ones and worn ones. If you have to get into the muck to do any clean up I'm sure it will be good to have a few that do not matter to trash. If they do not fit (they should be close, you sound about the same size as me) please pass them on to others in need.
I included a survival flashlight too (a pak-lite), it has a very long usage life. A spare battery is in there too. I have heard that one of the biggest problems after storms is finding batteries.

I hope no one from the fiero forum is sent up to camp dawson with some of the other survivors from new orleans,
so far they've got 170 people up there, and outta those 170 people they have had 3 illegal immegrants (not a problem) BUT they have 20 people with warrants for their arrest outta the first 170 people, AND they had a sexual assault right on the bus while transporting them from charleston to camp dawson (3 hour trip) not only that, but since they were transported to camp dawson, the vehicles inside the camp were vandalized, and broken into, along with homes nearby, not sure what kinda people they chose to send up to our state, but the state troopers here are ready to send them all back.... La. doesnt want the 20 people back with warrants cause they dont have anyplace to put them, so they just said let them go, and the INS doesnt want the 3 illegals, they said to wait till we had 20+ of them before we should do anything about it. I just hope that the next plane loads bring up some better people. we are expecting 400+ more in the next 2 days so hopefully the area calms down now that they have 6 state troopers staying on the grounds and 10 MP's
i know we arent housing near as many people as other states, But its alot longer of a trip up here, and housing is in short supply.

Mosh, that really sounds bad. Where did you hear all of this? I can't find anything on it in the newspapers or on the web. Seems that if the situation were that bad, there would be something written about it. Just curious...

This came from the state trooper that was in charge of determaning what troopers were going to be stationed there.
among all the damage done by the storm, the reporters would find that there is no real story in writing about 170 people, when millions are devestated.
I just came back from a trip to clay county WV today, and on the way back i saw a bus load of people heading north on i79 with a trooper car infront and behind the bus, so im guessing they are taking more people up to camp dawson today.
more than likely nothing will ever be seen in the news about it.
I still find it hard to believe that the government will sell flood insurance to people who live in an area thats known to easily flood.... i can understand selling to someone who risks possibly getting flooded, but to sell insurance to a place thats already below sea-level......
I feel very bad for the victums of this storm, im very fortunate that we only have minor flooding here in WV, and thats pretty much the ONLY natural disaster we run into, But it seems with all the books published on this very thing happening, and all the warnings that were put up, i cant believe that millions of people risked their lives to live in an area that was just waiting for this kinda disaster to happen.
I know im probably going to get flamed for writing my opinion, but It just makes my thoughts race to think that all that will be rebuilt, and 5-10-15-20+ years down the road its going to happen ALL OVER AGAIN!

Anthony did you get the money order I sent from the PFF fund? It probably would have been there yesterday. I'm sure you are running around like a chicken with your head cut off, so when you get a chance. please let me know.
There was a plan and they did not follow it. You can read it here. http://www.cityofno.com/portal.aspx?portal=46&tabid=26 As for putting the blame on congress for the levees you need to look at where the money went. New orleans NEVER used it to build them up. I will post that if you need me to. As for now we should not look at who is to blame but how we can help. jscott1, dont take this the wrong way. Just tired of everyone wanting to blame people before they are all even out of there.

Yes this has been predicted for years, but every year that it didn't happen people got complacent and figure it's never going to happen.
Part of the blame is on Congress. They determined it would cost $14 Billion to built the levees to category 5 and cut corners. According to the Army Corp of Engineers the levees provided 99.5% protection, well we see the results of that 0.5% That $14 billion now sounds like a bargain.
Let's hope the Levees are rebuit to withstand a category 5, or the city raised 15 feet before anyone is allowed to live there again.

Well.... It was definately a cat 4 when it hit - Biloxi. NO took a much lesser hit. I would guess (as I've not seen it mentioned anywhere) that the levees took a cat 3 or less hit. Before the levees broke, newscasters were saying that NO dodged a bullet, and that the damage was far less than feared. They didn't get hit nearly as hard as feared, but the levees broke anyway. I want someone to explain that.

The places the failed broke due to water that flooded over the top and undermined the wall from the back side. It was not necessaryly the intensity of the storm that broke it, but was the undermining of the foundation from th rear. The failed portions were some of the newer portions of the wall too, not the outdated parts.
There was an article in the New York Times (it think) about this. Can't find the article right now.

Please let's not forget that while THOUSANDS of affected people are sill leaving the flooded areas, there are LOTS of volunteer, troops, etc. marching in those areas for the gory task of house-by-house searches. We need to keep them in our prayers because they will be at the center of the new "Ground Zero" exposed to God knows what and how many illnesses. My son (G.A.N.G. MP) is now at the St Bernard Parish waiting for the waters to go down. He described the area as "This is way worse than Iraq! The stench is just impossible and you can barely breathe. It's like a ghost town, the smell of death is in the air..." He will be there for at least a month (probably two) and we are really worried for his safety. He mentioned that one of the troops was bitten by a BRS. I wonder how they will get protection from the bugs they can't see...

Just an observation, and suggestion. If the present direction that this thread has taken continues, it will probably end up in OT. Let's try to avoid that by keeping it Fiero and PFF member oriented.
