Well, my most fun true story is about a guy following me home from work one night.... 37 miles to home. High beam head lights in my eyes. Every time I slowed down, he slowed down. Everytime I speed up, he sped up. Turned off roads, he followed. Through towns and etc.... Got very annoyed.1986 4 cyl. 5 speed thorugh a series of curves, then a nice long straight way... After being satified that I was well ahead of him, I started slowing down. The Deputy going the other way was not amused. Don't know how fast I was going, but after a stern lecture, I didn't get a ticket. Probably helped that I stopped and waited for the Deputy to turn around and catch up.

Yea? well thats not what your mother said. ^^joke^^ seriously is that an 88? Goes to show that the improvements had mostly to do with tweaking along the production line as the years went by is my theory. Actually I was joking about the 9 second time too...I mean it isnt anything to brag about and I was bragging....get the irony now? ------------------ 84 Duke, Holley TBI, Manual Trans 4.10, CompuCam, White

Fast enough to get me stern look for burying the needle at 85+.... AFTER getting thoroughly spanked by a new Camaro 2SS/RS. He let me have a 2 second lead at a red light and his tires were still spinning and spewing that gorgeous tire smoke as he passed me.
I've been spanked by a new ZR1(?)(may have been a new Z06, but I'd like to think it was a ZR1) 'Vette as well.... That car is almost sex in motion.... wow...

ive done a 1/4 mile run in 9.95 seconds on a drag strip and gone over 300 km/h on the open road many times. Oops thats on my yamaha r1 (not stock). in my fiero, wouldnt even bother trying to time it down the 1/4 strip. fastest car ive had was my 2000 wrx with to many mods to list but i spent over $28 thousand just under the hood. she ran 11.25 quarters crossing the line at about 225km/h from memory.

Ahhh, all this talk about going fast (and I am not against it when the time/conditions are right)... But let me tell you a lil story about this Jack-@$$ I knew...
This story takes place about 10 or 12 years ago... My buddy had a new Camero, I belive it was the first year of that new body style in the early 90's, that his rich daddy bought him. Camero was loaded and he had the 5.7 in it... So him and his girfriend were driving home after a weekend of 4th of July partying at my Cape house... Anyway, hew was racing a Mustang 5.0 up the intersate, both cars swaped places as they made there way through the TRAFFIC. So my buddy wanted to put him away one and for all and decided to pass the traffic using the break-down lane (you can see where this is going)... Normally, you may be able to get away with this if you have a nice line-of-sight. But this Jack ass friend (more of a boyfriend of a friend) of mine decided to use the break0down lane while cresting a hill...
Long story shortened (because I am getting tired of typing); there was a state trooper parked in the break-down lane with someone he pulled over in front of him... This kid in his Camaro comes ripping up the break-down lane at about 125-130 and guess what?! He nails the cop, destroys his car, the cops and the person he pulled over...
He (my budy driving) walked away from the crash. His girlfriend in the passengers seat was sent to the hospital with non-life threating injureys (she was REALLY banged-up). The cop was all jacked up and got flown to the hospital, but survived. The car/person the cop had pulled over walked away unharmed...
Just something to keep in the back of your mind when messing around in your cars... I am not saying don't race/speed, god know I have bent the law on more then a few occasions. Just keep others on the road out of your actions...
BTW, the kid driving the Camaro was never the same after the crash (mentally). Even though he didn't have head injurys from the crash, I think the trama from injuring others did a number on him...

My Fiero was this fast a month ago with bad ignition and 02 sensor
It now has new dist, wires, plugs,MSD cap, rotor, coil and a big hole where the 02 sensor used to be (the bung rusted out) Gonna do another run without an 02 sensor and then one with the new 02 sensor this week.(installing my wideband LM-1 and piggybacking a narrowband signal to the ECM)

Funny thing..... my Northstar Fiero, as well as my built SBC car won't do over 55 mph in Oregon, but when I go out to the midwest it'll do 70 in most areas.............. go figure
Russ
The speed limits in Oregon are just rediculous. Not even enough to do a 0-60 check. From what I understand some of the lowest in the country. No wonder Oregon residents can't drive.

I know it is just semantics but when asked how fast? That to me is top speed. How quick? that is drag strip. But for what it's worth my Twin cam 3.5 Short Star was electronically limited to 112mph. I would max that out in 2nd gear before the rev limiter. I took that engine out and put in an LS4. It is MUCH faster now. I have not got it to the "top speed" yet but the GXP's this engine came out of is electronically limited to 145mph. That governor can be removed with a ECM re flash. The top speed then...?

Yes it is an 88 and automatic too. It wasn't tweaks on the assembly line, it was tweaks on the engineers side. The 88 and 84 dukes are very different.
He was driving a lime green 2 wheeler with a small fairing on the front ,,I was beside him in my RAT, pos, modified 2.8.GT 4 speed(good engine) . I could feel the gerbil in the Fiero front roller gage stroking up,,I watched the yellow ..GREEN !! I leap off the line and smoked him,, in 4th gear it was difficult to see him far behind me.. I blew that moped into the weeds..

New ignition(all parts new),no 02 sensor, open loop with no thermostat. Gained 10hp maybe. Never thought I would ever be fighting a car to get it to 100hp. Gt 1988 Pontiac Fiero GTF Oct 20, 2009 12:09 PM Acceleration
other than a K&N stock style filter and STI Wires on my 88 Base Coupe 2.5L 5-speed Izuzu was stock. I had done a couple on-ramp races again my buddy's laser 2.0 DOHC auto and I beat him everytime by about 12 car lengths...LOL
my 85 GT is bone stock with the exceptions of a K&N stock style air filter, cat-delete and STI wires. I've raced a couple honda's and each time they ask me which v8 I have, hahaha. even at car shows guys come up and ask me while the engine is idleing..."what 8 do ya got in there?" without taking a video of it at idle I can honestly say it sounds like a higher pitched corrvette with magnaflow exhaust. I LOVE IT!!! (still has the stock muffler, and exhaust parts though...for now )

Had mine up to 126mph, per my GPS on a long flat chunk of interstate with no traffic on it. Quad4 with 3 speed auto. Was approaching the redline so I didn't want to push it any harder. Actually handled fairly well. Really don't care to try it again anytime soon. It made it to 120mph faster than I remember either of my 2.8/auto doing a 120mph run. Not very scientific (or smart) for that matter.
Did a 4th gear pull yesterday, headlight covers usually come up at around 105ish. This time the passenger side flew right off, went into the air and into the ditch, luckily it didn't hit any cars behind me.
I don't even look at who I line up with at the line. Just watch the tree and try to improve my reaction time and 60'. My buddies will tell me I beat a viper or a Z06. It doesn't matter to me because I know there will always be somebody faster. I just want to the be the fastest I can be at that moment.

My car is FAST!!!! With time lapse photography. Still isn't running. But I suspect it'll be fast enough to get me in trouble a time of two and fast enough to enjoy the ride. Oh wait my stock 87Gt already does that. So project car might be a tad faster when done.

My wife and I went to take a bunch of stuff to the recyclers on our regular coffee/muffin date on Friday mornings. I loaded in some bottles and plastic jugs in the trunk. Nancy had a bunch of tin cans in a large box that was too big to put in the trunk. So she put it on her lap and a way we go in the 3800 SC Fiero.
We get to the recycle place and found it closed. Bummer. So we decided to go back home and drop it off and return to go out for a Mocha and muffins as planned. So, on our way back I'm driving along like a responsible Fiero driver and we get passed by a speeding late 90's V8 Mustang. He cuts in front of me very close about 6 feet and moves up ahead of us. He gets caught at a red light as a semi truck is turning. As I approach, I switch lanes to the right side and pull up next to him.
He has his music playing loud with the woofer beat and his girlfriend is sitting in the passenger seat moving with the music and laughing. Nancy turns and looks at me and smiles and puts her arm around me. As the light gets ready to change, the guy quickly turns his music off and rolls down the window and listens to my Fiero. You could see him trying to figure out what I had for a motor and what I may do. I'm running an 80 series flowmaster so it sounds pretty throaty. So, he gets a little agressive and revs up and down a bit and starts to take off.
So, I'm thinking in my mind as the light changes, "hummmm should I try to burn his butt (and I didn't know if I could or not since I have never raced anyone before) or just do my usual--nothing"? For some reason, I couldn't resist! There were cars behind us and I didn't see any cars with lights on top. As we were rolling from the light, he pulls aggressively ahead of me checking what I'm going to do. He's a car length away from me by the time I decide to hit the peddle to the metal.
Tin cans start flying out the box, some hitting Nancy on the head, making loud clanking noises! I hit second gear with a chirp and by that time, I was passing him pretty easy and there was nothing he could do. You could hear his V8 screaming. All he could do was read my license plate, "I-XSLR8"
So, I burned his butt. I wonder how it feels to have an old married guy with his wife with a box on her lap beat his FAST Mustang! LOL! It felt good.
Nancy kinda got on my case and said next time your going to do that, warn me first!
I'm working on my N* swap in my 88 so it will be interesting to see the difference in power with a mild 272 cam package. I guess that's my fast story for now.
Ok Legacy, way to promote street racing . You're not a cop by any chance, are you ? Anyway, I took a Z06 about six months ago from a 35-40 mph rolling start. Not sure what year, but was a Z06 as he pulled up to me at the next light, which was about three miles down the road. Didn't take off from him, but did pull away steadily till he was about a 1/4 mile back. '88 fastback GT with a built 3.4, hypertech chip, headers, no cat w/ flowmaster true dual exhaust and a five speed. Only bad thing is, about two weeks later, spun a bearing. Rather would have lost a race than my engine.

Mines fast enough that it makes me stupid. But the big grin makes up for it. Even the 84 4cyl is fast enough to get into trouble. You might be suprised just how planted it is on certain freeway exchange ramps at 90mph.
