Because many believe in freedom of speech, and are getting tired of "political correctness." (opinion)

However, that being said, it is cliff's house and his rules, so if he speaks and its against the rules, I cant save him.

So this is completely fine and an OK way to carry on a discussion:

I think that arguement has just become a convienant excuse to allow anyone to call someone else any derogitory name they want.

You might think differently about this so called "freedom of speech" if Stan's (and every other bigot's) vile hatred was constantly being directed at you, your family, or anyone else you truly cared about.

Enough is enough. We don't need this vulgar filth being posted in a family oriented "car" forum any longer.

Yellowstone. We have a saying in the UK:'sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me'.
Even more so, when those words are used against EVERYBODY ,it seems, and from somebody who is recognised as being a Little 'out there'...even stridently by his own admission ....WHY take offense? WHY allow those words creedence by reacting to them? It really ISN'T about you, at the moment, or anybody else in the past really...it is the man spouting words...just words. There is almost certainly a lot of 'tongue in cheek' in the execution of his prose...can you not see that? He plays to the audience...and when the audience react, so he will increase the 'volume'.
And finally...try to give everybody ELSE the due for understanding this, and not thinking any less, OR more of you, OR anybody else who might be 'villified' in the moment, as a result .

as far as uhlanstan:
the post are over the top, but as a newbie,, it seems everyone takes what he post with a grain of salt..
he seems to not bash a person DIRECTLY.. going after another member..
he's harmless, he has an opinion.. that not all that long ago, a lot of people had,, and a lot of people STILL have..
my wifes dad and my dad are ex mil. and I think the service, turns off the filter in brain that tell ya, wait, maybe I should think this and not say it..
he maybe not p.c. but he's truthfull and unbaised on how he feels on any subject.. in a world of b/s artist.. it's kinda nice/refreshing when someone speaks their mind.

and if you're offended by a post on an internet forum, you've got bigger issues,

I may not agree with everything that he post.. but he speaks his mind, and thats refreshing.. most ex mil. ,before they became p/c are very very blunt..

I'm not hurt at all. I just think he and his diatribes are unnecessary and do not add to what's good about this forum.

Perhaps it ILLUMINATES what is good about the Forum? Ying-yang..Jesus and the Devil...hot and cold..wet and dry...we would never know which was either, without the opposite .... and life would be extremely boring if we all spoke/posted/thought the same way..?? The Forum would wither and die ...Maybe

You should re reread this (or any ) thread of his because you obviously missed a lot, squeek.
Maybe because "you have a solar panel up your butt."

Based on your posts in other threads, I'm pretty sure that you agree with a great deal of what he says.

Thats OK, its your opinion, and the opinion of many who post here.

But at least you have the common courtesy to refrain from calling other forum members names, butt pirate.

Well, you know me Nick, I am maybe more allowing & non-judgmental of others and their beliefs then most anyone I know, here or elsewhere.
But lets face it, there are a few REAL azzholes here.
NOT becouse of their opinions or beliefs, but becouse of the attitude they purposly CHOOSE to use to interact with others.
They don't do it becouse it is who they are, or by any "loss of rational", they do it purposly to oppress, to belittle, and to degrade others.
They are bullies, pure & simple.

I think Yeats touched on it: "The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity."

I don't think that THAT kind of "Ying & Yang" (which I am a huge fan of) is a "good" thing.
How many Charlie Mansons does the world need for "balance"?

yeah, that is true Don. But I can honestly say it has only happened when I am feeling 'low', and vulnerable (all darned summer, being my own company for up to 15 hours a day, EVERY day ).It's like being in solitary, and not having commited a crime And, of course, when we have nobody to talk to...our inner conversations centre on the nastier side of life...and that leads ME to one thing..obviously
I have noticed ONE thing here, though Just take a look at who the main posters in the 'drunk' thread are , and consider their 'politics'
Brennan's CERTAINLY one step down the highway towards being a good Republican ...no surprise there. Brennan...spoken in jest..but many a true Word

Sorry, you fail at reading comprehension.

If you apologize for that kind of behavior, you are giving tacit approval of it, aren't you.

Not only do the 'Flamers' bother straight people...they piss off the REAL and GENUINE people who have that way of life and are happy with themselves.
Way to go George...you know you have my support, I guess...as do the others here. (Not that you need it you are secure enough in yourself to not have to flaunt it).

Too bad you aren't secure enough to not flaunt your sexuality. I think it is awfully hypocritical to expect someone to not reference their sexuality while posting pictures of your wife showing her ass. But I have stopped being surprised by your double standards.

Um, no I'm not apologizing for anyone's behavior. In my book he has the right, so no apologies needed. So if you want to say i approve, sure. I approve of his inherent right as an American to say anything he wants, no mater how offensive, or not... Just as you have the same right to not be tied down and forced to listen to it. ( board rules not withstanding, this is just my personal opinion )

And no, i don't fail at comprehension, we just interpret things differently. I stand by the statement that with what i have seen personally hes making statements about groups, not individuals. ( yes, some groups are here on the forum.. but that still is not an individual to me ). There may be statements i have not seen, so i reserve the right to change my opinion.

Good job of Avengadoring out of that corner, butt pirate.

(My opinion, my right, remember?)

And why, in your stated opinion, is it ok to refer to all gay people as ass pirates, but NOT OK to refer to tea party fanatics as a hole butt lickers?

People keep saying that, but many many times he has addressed people here singulaly.
Not always by name, but many times by "you".

Although, my thoughts on the matter are not divided by that "distinction".

While i personally may feel name calling is silly and uncalled for, as i'm not a hypocrite, you can call them that if you want. But it does eliminate any sense of credibility in the matter if you do. ( part of the consequences of expressing oneself is you may look stupid and be ignored.. ) EDIT: And yes, him calling them names like that dose destroy his credibility with that subject.. )

And remember, i have several gay friends. Them being called names makes no difference. They are not changed, nor my friendship with them.

By you agreeing that I'm a "twit squeek from the rainbow asylum", I learn something about your standards. Or is that your opinion? Unless, of course, uhlanstan was talking about someone else who indeed is a twit squeek from the rainbow asylum.

Uhlanstan may not have been referring to you at all. I do notice that he uses creative language in third person though.

EDIT: I went back and read the "offending" post.... lol Uhlanstan wasn't referring to you at all. I seen he was talking to Neptune, who usually talks politically like a similar member named Ray.b who is the person he was talking about. You are not the "chosen one" in this case.

What is a "Douche Canoe"?
Sounds like one of my "moves" from the 70's....

"She really didn't want to go out with me, but after I pulled the ol' Douche Canoe on her, she stroked-out and never dated again!"

I'm of two minds about our friend Stan.

One mind says if someone with a bit more articulation in his posts had made the sorts of proclamations he's made, I'd be among the first to demand his ouster....and I've read his screeds on those who share my faith, my race and my general view of the world. And, Boonie's right in his view that there are those among us who are difficult to view anywhere beyond the "asswipe" and bully stage.

However, the other mind says it's incredibly hard to take anything Stan says seriously. So much of what he's saying gets lost in the jumble that seems to be his communication style that one is too busy trying to translate to be able to concentrate on being offended. I will admit I do believe he gives voice to views that are held by some members with either more restraint or less cojones to come out and say it. I don't welcome his input as much as tolerate it, as I do a few others actually.

But I do wish he'd try to to dial it back a bit.

It's getting harder to simply apply the "crazy uncle" standard when ever he posts something.

Well said.
I always admire those that can express themselves.
I'm not so good at it.

It's always nice when someone can express myself for me!
Makes it pretty easy to be me!
