thanks cliff, it looks to be a model A or B, hard to tell by only seeing the very front of it, as several models have that same front.

i decided that many of the original welds on the tractor were really ugly and had to be ground down and redone to get a nice finished look

today is going to be research day as i need to locate the rod that i broke, rear hub gasket and possibly brakes. so there might not be any updates for the next couple of days as i need to locate these parts ASAP.

well i have found out that the part that i broke is not available anymore. no problem, just welded another rod on to the clevis and threaded the end for the other clevis.

as you can see the brakes are in great condition so they dont need to be replaced.

a pic of the inside of the rear housing.

thats all for now, sorry for the slow pace, it should be getting faster as soon as the sanding is done. cant wait...

Be very very careful. When this project is done you will need another. And more money, . The fun is in the doing, take your time.

Don't grind down the original welds! I would assume any tractor collector would want to see this thing in the original condition... defects and all. Sort of like orange peel on GM cars

Can't wait...there's something uplifting about taking something old and neglected and making it beautiful again...

Proof once again that old tractors are fun!

My dad still has a JD model 50 that my grandfather bought new, they painted the easy parts on it about 10 years ago and re-decaled it at the same time.

I've used it myself growing up to run the hay rake, it has a job every year to run the hay elevator. Old tractors are just neat!

Forgive me for asking something that may be obvious, or sounding critical of your exemplary restoration...

Does that yellow overspray on the tire body just wipe off?

If you ever have to do it again, on your silver and black parts, may I suggest POR-20 (high heat) & POR-15.
It is almost idiot proof (good for me)... and you'll never see rust again... (good for the part)!

yes the overspray will wipe off because we coated the tires in petrolium (sp?) jelly to help clean overspray and to recondition the tires

there is a difference in the green from 1944 to today, the only place that i could find to match it was our local NAPA, the yellow is the same as it is today. i would really be interested in more as i have to repaint the plow and cultivators. PM me the price of a gallon of green and we might be able to do something. thanks
