I plan on getting my CCW within the next few months, as I'm one of the few members in our family that still doesn't have one. (My dad, aunts, uncles, and cousins have had them for a few years).
I'm not a big fan of in the pants holsters, as I wear my shirts tucked in and don't want any part of the gun or holster exposed. So for the cold months I can get a concealment leather jacket, and then come up with something creative for the summer months.

If you carry something small enough in the summer you could use a pocket holster. Not sure MI law, but Ohio allows pocket as long as its in a holster.

Congratulations on your decision and welcome to the club.
Nor do I know Michigan CCW (CHL) laws very well but I absolutely LOVE this statement from the Michigan Constitution:
Article 6. Bearing of arms. Sec. 6. Every person has a right to keep and bear arms for the defense of himself and the state.
No ambiguity there!
Michigan is a "shall issue" state. No ambiguity there, either. No discrimination upon who can have a concealed weapons permit based upon their political connections or notoriety or family ties like in some other states and the District of Columbia.
and........
Texas and Michigan are reciprocal states to valid residents of either state. You can legally carry a concealed weapon when you come to visit our Fiero events!
As to summertime carry options, IWB (inside the waist band) holsters will not work for the tucked-in-shirt-tail carry. Pocket carry is uncomfortable when you are sitting. Consider the ankle holster - just be sure to wear long pants, hehehehehe.

Congratulations on your decision and welcome to the club.
Thank you.
I thought about an IWB holster, as there are a couple that can fully conceal the holster + gun and still allow a shirt to be tucked in; however, I'm just not sure how quickly I could untuck the shirt to access the gun if a situation were to arise.
Is anyone on here using something like this, or could provide some input?
I also like how well an ankle holster can be concealed, but once again, I don't think I could access the gun quick enough should I ever need to use it.

I have a Texas Concealed Handgun License, and I carry all the time. I usually carry it holstered to my right hip or sometimes on my back with and inside the waistband holster. I carry a Glock Model 23 .40 cal. It is a great gun, shoots and carry excellent.

That is right, practice is the key to save your life or the life of a family member.
Wow, we finally got another Texan on this subject! I thought I was the only one participating on this thread. 260,000 Texas CHL holders and only 2 are from the Fiero world?
I also carry a Glock Model 23.I'm considering buying a Model 27(same caliber...a little smaller frame) just to make it a little more comfortable to carry/conceal. I usually don't wear a tucked in shirt, and an inside the waistband holster works great for me. Sometimes in the winter...if it's cold outside and I know I'll be wearing a jacket all day,I'll use my shoulder holster as it's much more comfortable.

With a tucked shirt and an IWB, your best bet is to practice using both hands to draw, If you're right handed, reach across your body with your left and pull your shirt up, and then use your right to draw. Actually, that's usually the best way to draw even with an untucked shirt. That way your dominant hand is only dealing with removing the gun from the holster. The key is to practice the draw and presentation until it's a natural motion. Remember, if you're in a situation where you need the gun, adrenaline and nerves are going to make things more difficult so you want to have the movements become ingrained. For safety's sake, make sure the weapon is unloaded when practicing. Start with just the draw, then move to drawing and presentation/sight alignment. When that becomes smooth, find a range that allows drawing from a holster, so that you can practice the whole shebang, from draw to firing.
I usually carry a full size Smith and Wesson M&P semi-auto in an IWB holster, worn at about the 4 o'clock position. With an IWB, it helps to buy pants or shorts one size larger than you normally wear, loose fitting shirts, and make sure you use a quality belt. An IWB holster is designed to press the grip of the gun against your body for maximum concealment. A cheap belt will not provide enough support, and will usually allow the holster and gun to sag away from your body.
For those times when carrying a full size just isn't feasible, I carry a Kel-Tec PF-9 in a pocket holster. The PF-9's size pushes the limits of front pocket carry, but it works well with cargo shorts or other clothing that has bigger pockets. There are also a number of .380's out there that pretty much disappear into a pocket, but IMHO the .380 is inadeqaute as a defense round.
Sometimes I just carry openly in an OWB holster, since open carry is legal in AZ. I don't open carry often, mostly when camping and such. Ankle carry may seem appealing, and it can be a good place to carry a back-up, but it's awfully awkward and time-consuming to draw from an ankle holster.

Great write-up GT86. Yep, PRACTICE. I've been screaming practice since almost the beginning of this thread. My wife and I will be at the range doing just that in a couple of hours, hehehehehe.
BTW - I usually carry OWB as is shown on an earlier post. A loose shirt tail over it is sufficient to "conceal" the weapon in the 4:00 o'clock (I'm right handed) and a good belt to keep it tight against my body. The Texas law states "...presence cannot be observed through ordinary observation...". It goes on to say, "Intentional dispay is prohibited." So, there is a great deal of leeway in these statements. I guess that is why we have lawyers, hehehehehe.

Congratulations! You show me yours.......I'll show you mine, hehehehe!
This is my 2nd renewal (3rd licensing) - good until Dec. 2011. My next renewal (3rd) and (if I live long enough, subsequent renewals) are for 10 years duration. Let's see for my 4th renewal, I'll be only 79! That will take me to age 99! Woohoo, guess what I want for my 100th birthday!
The SA category is means I can carry any legal handgun (revolver or pistol) and BTW in any number. We can carry all we can hide, hehehehe. In Texas, if you qualify with a revolver, you are limited to carrying ONLY revolver(s). Qualify with a pistol and you can carry either or both!

i find a spinner is harder to keep on target than an auto loader. reaching up with my thumb just kills me.
but to keep this thread alive. i am trying to re-learn how to shoot. i hope to learn how to aim with both eyes open. i was told to start close and slowly work my way up to 10 yards
so here are my first 20 shots ever with both eyes open. this is 1-10 at 3 yards
and this is 11-20. at 3 yards, rapid fire.
