Ya know, I need to be an ass here. You people have some of the MOST outlandish ideas of the military. MOST of those Soldier are in their late twenties, MOST of those Soldiers are not from the the ghettos. MOST of those Soldiers aren't stupid. MOST of your ideas and views are far from reality in the military today.

Aceman, Just wanted to know where in my post do I say that people from the ghoetto are the ones signing up for the military ? I never said that, didn't even think it. My brother (USMC current) and myself (Navy) had a single mom that couldn't afford to put both of us through school. I went in right out of high school as did a good 20 of my classmates, same thing with my brother when he graduated in 04, most of our friends that were going in were doing so for the college benefits and to be able to get away from the small town we grew up in. You said it yourself in one of you later post about college benefits.

I was telling 84Bill of the most technically
proficient, best personnel sergeant I've ever had
under me. She was a intelligent, tree hugging
liberal. Joined the military for college benefits.

So you acknowledge that people go in for the benefits, but I don't think every person that goes in for those reasons are useless in combat situations. I just hope you aren't making a blanket statement about the people that sign up to rec. college benefits.

Personally I entered the military because I needed the direction. My parents didn't have the money to get me all the things I wanted but then again I never really wanted anything anyway. I didn't care about education or benefits or anything of the sort. I did it because I wanted to. I was in basic when Lybia created it's line of death and dared the US to cross it. I was mortified but I knew I had a job to do, I was on a mission so I pressed on while a good 30% of the company vanished. I would prefer not to die for my country over someone as stupid as Kadaffi but the powers that be felt it may have been necessary. Very well.... I thought to myself, when my obligation is up I will have new orders and I intened to follow them with equal vigor.

I DO SOLEMNLY SWEAR (OR AFFIRM) THAT I WILL SUPPORT AND DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES AGAINST ALL ENEMIES, FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC; THAT I WILL BEAR TRUE FAITH AND ALLEGIANCE TO THE SAME; AND THAT I WILL OBEY THE ORDERS OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND THE ORDERS OF THE OFFICERS APPOINTED OVER ME, ACCORDING TO REGULATIONS AND THE UNIFORM CODE OF MILITARY JUSTICE. SO HELP ME GOD.

I no longer have to obey the orders of the president and officers and have been given back my voice. In the time since I have maintained the original intent of my oath in beraring true faith and allegence to the principals this country was founded on.

You can take the man out of the military but you can never take the military out of the man... but it's nice to be back on the block knowing the power we weild is far greater than any president or standing army.

Frustrating when one sees how undisciplined and lazy civilians are when confronted with their duty and its no wonder the government has run amuck.

So, what is your excuse for selective reading this time kid?

Apparently so.

Considering I just pointed to a half dozen links that contradict your story from the SAME website it would appear that YOU are the one who is scrambling for an exit.

But go ahead, call the kettle black. A strong offense when you are caught with your pants down is the natural inclination of liberals..ala Clinton.

You mean the 84% Republican base that serves in the Military?

Yep, you and Kerry (or is it Carry) are kindred spirits alright. Try to make a joke and let your REAL thoughts emerge.

Anyone got a spare Foot from Mouth removal tool for Wolfie?

Good try fraudster. Do you write these sleazy political attacks for the RNC? You sure are good at being a parsing sleaze ball.

I wonder, how do you FEEL today this Tuesday November 7th? I feel great.

Do you still think I'm crazy calling for a Democratic takeover? You are the guy saying the Republican house will stand after all, but nobody in the country believes that today. No matter how much you twist and bend the truth, it's too late.

The Senate will be close, but either way we WILL GAIN seats there too. And you can bet soft Republicans like Lincoln Chaffee and Susan Collins will stick with us on a lot of issues as well. That probably pisses you off. We can probably get Senator Hagel over our way for some votes. Come 2008, we'll have all three buddy. Can't you just FEEL it?

Oh BTW I read that Bakersfield CA is going to be one of the hardest hit in this housing crash, so you might want to consider moving, or seeking another profession. Apparently there is plenty of room for expansion, but the industry in the area pays workers lower than the prices of the houses in the area. They are expecting a major dip.

84Bill;

I really hate to get into this, because, for one, I hate politics, and any post concerning politics is a minefield for me, and second of all, this is turning into a mudslinging match, and lord knows I'm dirty enough with all the sand and dirt I'm working in out here in Southern Afghanistan, but, seriously dude, you need to stop, back off, and take a look at yourself.

Here you are, ranting for 5 pages of forum posts about soldiers having to keep their military bearing and respect civilians and this and that But what you fail to see is in your quest to defend yourself and the moral regulations you followed so vehemently back then, your just making yourself out to be a disrespectful ******* to begin with. Yeah, I realize you're civilian now, having completed your five years in the guard as well as your three years on Inactive reserves, there ya go, hoo-rah. But when you decided to bring up your prior service as a grounds for your criticism, you opened yourself up to those moral regulations you are trying to enforce and yet not adhering to yourself.

Define Irony; prior service guardsman using foul language and disrespectful terms to enforce the respect that soldiers must show to all civilians.

I think I've made my point and I'm going to stop beating the dead horse, if you're going to try an enforce a UCMJ regulation, be sure you adhere to it yourself.

------------------
They asked me what I felt when I shot an insurgent.

I shrugged and replied: "...Recoil."

Well I'm no longer an OFFICAL member of the armed services. If you read carefully my "rants" you will see that I have one objective and as a civillian and I have more than a gun and marching orders. I have a voice. I can say NO, you can not. So unless you like your little sandbox and don't mind living in it for the next 10 years I would suggest you stuff a sock in it and do what you are told and trust that I'm doing my best to make sure if you die, you die for the right reasons. If you were to die today, it would have been for nothing. Your life would not have been for the freedom of this country or its safety because quite frankly there are no such things.

That is your job. take orders and die if need be.

I don't have to... I'm not in the military. You are and you do.

Recently legislation was proposed allowing the president to impose martial law and military tribunal on CITIZENS of this country.. YOU MAY JUST GET YOUR WISH. But till then.. I'm a "slackass" civillian with military training. I STILL give 110%. But I give them to the causes I FEEL are worth dieing for.. You arent giving me anything I don't already have by fighting in Afghanistan.

You don't have that choice and I feel sorry for you.

This is my oath FieroRaines.

"I DO SOLEMNLY SWEAR (OR AFFIRM) THAT I WILL SUPPORT AND DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES AGAINST ALL ENEMIES, FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC; THAT I WILL BEAR TRUE FAITH AND ALLEGIANCE TO THE SAME; SO HELP ME GOD"

The only true difference between you and I is "martial law" and this little bit.

"AND THAT I WILL OBEY THE ORDERS OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND THE ORDERS OF THE OFFICERS APPOINTED OVER ME, ACCORDING TO REGULATIONS AND THE UNIFORM CODE OF MILITARY JUSTICE. SO HELP ME GOD."

The US entered the war in Afghanistan to stop the regime that facilitated the training of multiple highjackers who put that training to use, highjacked four planes, killed 3000+ people in New York, blew out a section of the Pentagon, and almost took out Camp David had it not been for the courageous actions of the civilians aboard the plane at the time.
Had we not entered Afghanistan, would the Taliban have attacked the US again? Likely. But we did enter Afghanistan and toppled the regime, and now, here I sit, getting shot at and shooting back so that these people are too tied up with us in their home turf to get on another plane and ram it into the nearest metropolitan area.

But, beyond that, in response to the above quoted statement, which, by the way, has me somewhat aggrivated with the likes of you, I will state my case, and state it very simply.
I'm not out here to die for, or even to protect you, or any one person in My Country.
That you would even think half of the boys out here like me do it because they think they're protecting people like you is laughable. You want to know the real reason I'm out here?
1st Squad. My Squad. Ten men who I would gladly step in front of a bullet for if asked to, without hesitation. The camraderie and brotherly love between Infantry soldiers in the heat of a firefight is like nothing any one of us could ever explain, and nothing is better than it. I'm not out here fighting for your protection, fool. I'm fighting so that each and every one of these ten men can go home, drink their beer, have their barbeques, and make love to their wives, girlfriends, and evening aquaintances.

There is nothing you can do to make sure I am dying for the right reasons because you don't even understand what those reasons are.
So, sir, with all due respect, which, quite frankly, you are due none, You can take your high-riding, self-centered, "slackass" opinions and shove 'em. I am not and will never be fighting for the likes of you and people like you. I fight for those I love, and those who show me the respect I may or may not deserve for the job that I do.

Right... Nevermind that those people were on a watch list, were being tracked then suddenly.. poof.. they vanished.. Not to mention we alread HAD good measures that WOULD have prevented those persons from boarding airplanes.. Hell even you could have stopped them, it's not rocket science to look at a wanted poster and recognize a face. BUT instead I guess the Communist method is best for all. You go on believing what you want but the fact is you are wasting your time with those people. They still can and eventually will strike the US again.. in the mean time please feel free to leap in front of the bullets and call yourself a hero.

I know.. defending America is a joke, must be why you joined the services.. just to have a good laugh at my expence. Well.. enjoy.

I already know. Asside from the PRESIDENTIAL ORDER you are there to essentially guard and protect vital pipelines running through Afghanistan. It had been an issue with the US for several decades as those pipelines "were / are" considered "vital to national security".. Atleast thats what I've found out.

I DO feel you. I know exactly what you are talking about. I've never been in combat but the feelings I get from you just by reading this tell me exactly how you feel.. I will not argue that with you about it. Thats the the only way you can be when in the military, ANYTHING less is TOTALLY unacceptable.

All the more reason for you to be here and for us to figure it out. Wanna stay there or come home with your buddys? Gas may get a tad bit more expensive but ::: shruggs ::: hell man.. I'll be glad when you are back not being used as target.. THAT has got to suck.

I don't know why you are calling ME the enemy (in so many words) when you are absolutly surrounded by them.

Dude, I'm an American from the blood thet pumps through my heart to the flag I raise and strike every day.

ALL THIS ASSIDE!!!!
I UNDERSTAND YOUR ANGER AND FRUSTRATION!
I just want you guys and gals to come home without being stuffed in a flag draped coffin. I WILL PAY the higher gas prices.. I DON'T CARE ABOUT MONEY. I care more about YOU! Our country WILL survive, we CAN PROTECT OURSELVES without being in Afghanistan or Iraq or ANYWHERE else on the planet.

Bill

PS
**** man... you have no idea how torn apart I am when I see how many have given their lives for this cause.. I may call it a "stupid cause" and you may feel that to be a slight against you but I can assure you I FEEL YOUR PAIN! You are far from stupid and far from expendable. Just because you are doing your job does not mean you are stupid... No more than the trashman or the sewer workers are. It's a damn dirty job but someone had got to do it.. I did it from 86 to 91.. and you are doing it now.

I got your back. Trust me.

We're all too fired up over this, my personal opinion is that everyone needs to drop it and let it be.
Soldiers do the things they do overseas for multiple reasons, from letting off steam to just getting a good laugh. As long as the general public understands that the things we do and say our the particular opinions of the troops pictured, and not that of the service as a whole.
