I am considering swapping out the 2.8 in my 88GT for the venerable 3800 SC engine. My question is what engine management is the most popular for this swap? Or is it needed at all and the factory management is used and just tuned? How about engine harness?

Thanks all!

When I pulled a 2000 3800 GTP engine I got the entire harness, ECM, and all the goodies I'd need and then some. I striped down the harness and weeded out all the wiring I didn't need and there was lots of that. From there with the aid of a "Darth" wiring diagram I reassembled the harness to accommodate the needs of my build. At one point everything looked like a huge ball of spaghetti. Also a lot of knowledge can be gained during this process.
Example: A pink wire leaving the ECM ends up being a white wire at the destination end. Apparently as it passed near some hot objects like an exhaust manifold, the heat caused the color to fade even though it was fully insulated within the harness bundle. There's plenty to learn by building or reassembling your own harness.
I was also left with so much extra wiring that I hung it on some hooks in the garage. No need to buy any wiring any color for a long time.
