These are my original Corporate Concepts OEM tailpipes I took off my 88 Mera laying on my brick patio at my old house. I used them to make the reproduction Mera tailpipes I now sell. I started making them because Bob Bracey stopped making his and no one else was making them. They had rust holes in them that I patched and brazed on. I later changed my exhaust and I now have chrome dual resonator tips. I cut the steel crash plate some and notched both sides of the trunk so they come straight back, up and out the openings. They have that large offset as they have to go around the trunk and then out the openings. These Corporate Concepts tailpipes were very well made and were very high quality tailpipes. The outlets were both perfectly round. Mandrel bent. Precision made. I think ceramic coated. Mine rusted from the inside out I'm sure. Bob Bracey later on sold reproduction Mera tailpipes for a while but the one pipe (the ones towards the middle) was somewhat smaller and slightly oval from using a standard exhaust bending machine and looked low quality. They were also not ceramic coated. My reproduction Mera Tailpipes are made with a receding mandrel and are also both perfectly round on the outlet like the originals.

Why is the muffler end of the tailpipe expanded much larger than it needs to be to go on to the muffler outlet pipes? This worked like a ball joint and allowed the pipes to be moved left and right so they would in the center of the body opening. This is why they had the 4 wide slots cut into them.

Why did some exhaust pipe ends stick out farther in the exhaust openings and some were close to flush to the body and hardly stuck out at all? At the Mera reunion I noticed some tail pipes stuck out much farther on some Mera's and less on others. We talked about this in the past and think it was because there was a very loose tolerance on the GM exhaust system when it was made. On a standard Fiero this is not very noticeable. It shows more on the Mera. Possibly it was the difference between an 87 and 88?? One would have to look at Meras with OEM exhausts on them yet.

None. They were quickie (maybe fiberglass) mock ups using a real 308 Ferrari rim (One of the 2 real 308 Ferrari's they used to make the buck [overlay modeling clay on a Fiero chassis] to make the Mera panel molds) to make a quickie mold. They were only used for pictures. Left on they would have fallen off if driven.

What happened to the buck that was used to make the panels? The clay parts were removed and the original Fiero parts were reinstalled and they sold it. I'm not sure what year it was. The development of the Mera started in 1985. So it could have been an 1985 Fiero they used. I have pictures somewhere of that. I have pictures of one of the real 308's sitting next to the buck when they were doing the clay work.

i believe your info to be true. on the 308 cars the wheels that our cromodoras replicate were actually fcar campagnolos.

some of the early 80's real f308 cars had a vitaloni flag mirror with the exact part number that is shared with the mera vitaloni. but the bases of the mirrors are slightly different, likely due to how they bolt on the door surface. also alfa romeo used a vitaloni flag with the same part number on their spiders, but again the base was different due to how it bolts on.

while the mera1 taillights are mera specific, the backup lights are mid 80's ford escort wagon or mercury lynx backup lights. the 2.8v6 emblem is from a mid to late 80's s10 truck. the gts emblem is from a lebaron gts. the mera letters on the trunk is from mid 80's grand am se, or pontiac parisienne, or pontiac firebird's with chrome lettering.

with the exception of the body panels and how they attach, the rest of the mera is based solely off the fiero. some interior could be added, ttops from cars and concepts could be added, so on. but most is still just fiero. the 1987 mera's are gt's and some se's. the 1988 mera's early on were gt's/at least 6, and later in 88 were based on the formula's.

awhile back/maybe a yr or so... i talked to the owner of the prototype about me purchasing it. we could not come to terms. we werent off by far but its not a car you can take a loan out on, it would have been a cash purchase. likely someone could own that car for around 16-17grand or so if he still has it. danno has the contact info.

the general consensus is that there is 247 meras, 88 1987's and the rest 1988's. but there is some information that corporate concepts had some left over inventory of panels after they crushed their molds. and these panels were sold off. so some mera like cars likely exist and might not be that detectable other than construction brackets, mera sticker, or both. in the case of 7002 the theory is that danno has it although it does not have a sticker. but.... it has alll of the early proto traits and construction process that the stickered meras have. thus making a good assumption its a very early/7002 or maybe another proto or similar. too many clues on that car to be fake. imo.

post script; and rodney has stated that some of the early cars did not have mera stickers...

this car went on her side, then upside down on her lid, it held together very well considering. had the frame checked and she was not off by far. almost all the damage was front suspension and cosmetic body panels. says alot about these little cars.

you are right. the Mera Panels are way tuffer than the new Fieros, panels. unreal how thin the OEM Fiero ones are.
the doors and lids seem thick. but the wraps are thin....and light, which is alright!

MERA PRODUCTION TERMINATED UNDER CONSENT DEGREE WITH FERRARI

Detroit, Michigan (June 1, 1988) -- Corporate Concepts Limited announced today that it will promptly cease production of its "Mera" automobile body conversion under a consent decree it has entered into with Ferrari S.p.A to settle the trademark infrigement suit that Ferrari filed after the Mera was introduced. Ferrari's suit in the Federal District Court in Port Huron sought a permanent injunction against the Mera, alleging that its body and exterior appearance was a simulation of the Ferrari 308 and 328 automobiles. The consent decree provides for the production of a small number of additional Meras during a short phase-out period. (RELEASE ANY TIME)

I vaguely remember reading someplace where as part of the consent decree, all of CC's original modes had to be witnessed/destroyed by running over them with a bulldozer, or something like that. I'd wager, however, that at least some of the remaining unused panels went "underground" to give birth to the 308 Kit Car.
