curiously, i've noticed a change in the way people respond to this thread in the last couple of hours, since about noon today. i can't really put my finger on it, but the tone has changed.
stan launched one of his usual attacks against not just one of his pet groups, but 3 (actually 4, but he appears to assume if you're one of the 3, you are automatically a member of the 4th, and i think we've seen ample demonstration that that's not a valid assumption). viewed generically he could have been attacking anyone. that's a lot of attack, and it creates a lot of angst. no surprise there.
even after considering the source, yes, there is a need to stand up and disagree. as some of us like to say, "all that is necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing".

Hey, I'm not arguing with you on that. I agree with you.
I LIKE hearing people from different viewpoints. But even if I didn't, it STILL should be an inclusive place.
Regarding Doni getting rude pm's, that WOULD get a response from me calling out that kind of behavior. I did the same for Jazzman, who was getting it for a different reason.
Regarding christians not getting offended, it happens all the time. Insults. Name calling. Accusations. My point there was, ok, I don't "like" it. But I'm not going to leave the forum over it. And honestly, I'm not going to complain about it, because I don't want people "walking on eggshells" around me. Not because I'm some kind of tough guy, hero. But because I want to get people's viewpoints and opinions, and I might miss out on some of those if they have to worry about insulting me or hurting my feelings. But that is just my viewpoint on that. Regarding uhlanstan and Patton, I'm not EXCUSING his behavior because of his service. I just said I LIKE him because of that. It doesn't mean I like EVERYthing about him. you can do that. his post was directed at me, not personally, but as a part of a group. i've had extensive conversations with stan in pm, have met him and been to his house. and i think in some small ways i understand him. what i wanted to do, and i think i succeeded at that, was to put a face on that group. and i think maybe stan will have to think about it when he posts something like this again. that's all i wanted. not to spin off on all the tangents and secondary arguments. which brings us to this:

Somehow, amongst all that's out of whack with Stan's posts, the one irony I can't help but notice is that generally, Christianity and Christian churches don't accept or welcome gays. If a majority of them happen to be atheist, it's no wonder given the way they're treated by supposed loving Christians. It would probably turn me away from organized religion too.

There are strange things out there, believe me. I know a male gay couple who moved to TX from FL. They are both very conservative (I mean Tea Party conservative) and anti-Obama and also very religious (Baptist). Yet when they wanted to have a child they went to CA to do to it (surrogate mom with egg donor from catalog). I wonder why, isn't TX a perfectly good place if that's where you live?
What I mean is: some people really want to be part of something that rejects them and their lifestyle. Must be masochism.

I know. Along the same lines, the woman my dad married after he and my mom divorced is still a devote Catholic, even though the church rejected her after she divorced her (physically) abusive husband. She doesn't attend mass as she's not "welcome" (seriously????) but she keeps keeps a small altar in their house. The church I attend (Unity) welcomes everyone, no discrimination whatsoever. We consider that to be the true representation of "God"; pure love without judgment of any kind. The irony is that in describing that to conservative "Christians", I've had them call ME an atheist.
I have refused to give negatives out, unless necessary for some time now. EVERYONE is entitled to an opinion. We are not entitled to preach racism or hate.
I have found that bypassing threads is easy. But, the hate as of late is deafening. It makes me sad.
And BTW, I am one who HAS started a hate thread about Muslims. Through Mr. Hagans tutelage, I have found a certain peace. Remember this next time that we choose hate over love.

Probably because as far as I can recall, he's never attacked anyone by name. His posts are usually so incoherent and scatter in so many directions one never really knows if he's addressing them or not. He is certainly abrasive, and doesn't hesitate to call people out in groups, but he typically comes across more as a blathering fool than anything else.

Personally i dont think hes insane, and just has ( strong ) different view points from many people here and isn't afraid to express them. Sure, he has some troubles communicating at times, but no one is perfect.
I also dont think hes any more or less harmless than most of us.
