Fellas,

I just met a famous guy..Dan Gurney! He was in Carmel,CA. What a nice, pleasant guy. I met him and his wife and told him how much I followed his career. You know, he is a rather tall guy at 6' 4". That famous Gurney bubble on the GT 40 LeMans racer is one of his contributions to the automotive world.

Has an body else met someone notable and or famous?

Cordially,
Kevin

In before the move.

Don Garlits - in the pits at the drag races
Icky Woods - in the mall carrying a couple boxes of pizza (before his knee injury)
Chris Collinsworth - was walking out of the hospital as we were walking in
Anthony Munoz - at the grocery store
Chuck Norris - at a karate tournament
Sky King (forgot his real name) - I was a kid on a swing, he had his grandkid on his lap on the swing next to me

Oh, I forgot... I got signatures from the '64 Cardinals baseball team on a victory tour they did after the season. Had the signature card for many years but was either stolen or I lost it during one of my many moves around the country.

Anthony Munoz - guest speaker in middle school
Chipper Jones - first person to shake my hand after taking the Oath of Enlistment at Minute Made Park
Mankind (Mick Foley?) - hockey game in FL He was more excited to meet some Marines than we were to meet him.
Vinnie Paul - only saw him at a place he frequents, didn't bother him

I have met quite a few celebrities over the years when I used to drive for a local Limousine company, Cyndi Lauper, Grace Jones, Elton John,, Martha Wash, Debroah Harry (AKA Blondie), and even Ru Paul! LOL

Even with the big names tossed in there, the most memorable, was Lee Greenwood. It was a few years ago at a 4th of July concert, and I got a chance to meet him back stage. He was very friendly, and felt like I was talking to an old friend, we talked for about 10 minutes.

When I gave my oath during basic training in the Army, the instructor told us this was his mandatory part of the oath, and he played "God Bless the USA" just as we finished the oath. This song was also my fathers favorite song, and when I hear it reminds me of him a lot. so, needless to say that song holds a dual deep meaning for me. After talking for a bit, he noticed the American Flag tie I was wearing, and asked if he could autograph it for me. Needless to say, I took it off rather quickly and handed it to him He signed signed it: "God bless the USA. Lee Greenwood".

I am friends with some famous people. I also have quite a few customers with some amount of fame. Met a whole bunch. Most memorable: Morgan Freeman, BB King, members of 3-6 Mafia, Gangsta Boo , Justin Timberlake, Samual L. Jackson, Christina Ricci, Reese Witherspoon, Jaoquin Phoenix, Ginnifer Goodwin... I could keep going, won't even include the sports stars Most are either from here, or were doing something in town, i.e. movies, tv. I was just in the right place at the right time, I keep in contact with a few of them.

What is the definition of "met"?

Do you have to be introduced and shake hands? or just be in their presence or actually exchange greetings?

Define "famous"

Is that famous in the Fiero community? Cars in general? or honest celebrities that would be tabloid material?

My list is different depending on the criteria.

Most famous person I met would be Hilary Clinton, except I never met her, (my brother did though).

Ohio Governor Rhodes, Daisy Duke (Catherine Bach), Heather Locklear , Jane Fonda & Donald Trump, Miraha Carey, Jenna Jamison, Julie Ivory, Bob Hope, ' Ice ' (american gladiators)....thats all I can think of off the top of my head. Met quite a few, know a couple...

Right now, I'm sitting in a lounge listening to a crappy warmup band - waiting for Hole (Courtney Love's band) to come on and play... Might be an opportunity, who knows (doubtful she will be all that lucid anyhow)

If you're a jet engine buff, I met (and shook hands with) Hans von Ohain in the late 1980's. He was a personal friend of our plant's top executive here in Indy when we were still a division of GM. He came to visit and spoke to a class that I was attending on site that afternoon.

Only DFW guys would recognize this one. David McDavid and Widetrack! In his house.

Also met ZZ Top after the parking guy mistook my dads van as a staff vehicle. Old dodge van with the HUGE black side windows. He painted the ZZ Top Afterburner Tour on the side in washable red and orange paint. Parking guys directed them back stage. Then the Security guard showed them in backstage. They loved it. I was a still young vaguely remember it.

I wouldn't say "met" I suppose, I rode in an elevator with 4 other people, one was the guitarist for Soul Asylum Dan Murphy, I thought he looked familiar but my thought wasn't confirmed until he hit the stage 10 minutes later at a concert I attended.

Thats about as close as I get probably.

That is what they say but that is not correct. Oswald didnt stash the rifle, it was placed there to implicate him.
Oswald was exactly what he said he was: "I'm just a patsy".

I do not know any of the bands you mentioned above However, the band above, The Deftones, lived for years at my parents house! I went over to the home all the time and talked to them--and their mom. Unfortunately, they trashed the home, the usual stuf, fists in the wall, broken windows, torn up carpets, green pool filled with goo. Yuk! Anyway, I do not know any of their songs. I will say that the Deftones do have some crazy tatoos.

Cordially,
Kevin

Do we get to do "degrees" of meeting people?
Years ago I shook my grandfather's hand, who as a child, shook Theodore Roosevelt's hand. (TR was on the back of a train campaigning.)
Other than that I packed Dick York's groceries once. Does that count?
Also, I know two guys named David Lynch, and one named Teddy Bayer (heh heh).
Oh, and I know one of Carroll Shelby's cousins...

Unless you're a WWII and/or history freak, you may not know my friend Bill Sloan, tho he is a Pulitzer Prize-nominated writer. His latest book, "The Darkest Summer" about the 1st 3 months of the Korean War was just published. It's the 4th book in what he calls his "Four book war trilogy". You can find a few more here: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref...bill+sloan&x=11&y=21

But don't think all his books are serious. One is titled, "A Wild Hog Ate my Baby", about the years when he worked for the old "Confidential Magazine". Like John D. MacDonald, he's the kind of author, if you read one of his books, you want to read them all.

I guess you could say we know each other. We graduated HS together. And when I visit Dallas, I stay in his guest room. And he cooks a mean steak.

Oh, I forgot!

Not well known, but a stuntman. You have probably seen him in various movies, Clay Dix.

I have met most of the top NASCAR drivers and Indy car drivers. Even had luch with a couple like Dale Jarret and John Andretti.

Met many different stars and got to hang with a few. From Morgan fairchild to Bo Hopkins and Candy Clark from Ameican Grafiti. Jerry Seinfeld Tome Cruise and many other. I have a knack of being in the right place at the right time.

I also have gotton to work with many fame peple in Drag Racing and the Auto aftermarket like Edelbrock, Force and Garlits. I even got one of the pistons from Don from his fastest run ever. I even have a picture somwhere with Don and my Fiero.

My job lets me do things and meet people I never thought would ever get to meet let alone get paid for doing it.

But I do have to say I got to spend some time with Gurney a few years back and there is no nicer guy around. I would still vote him for president.
