I was so nervous before game 5 that I couldn't breathe, couldn't sort and fold a pile of socks to save my life, couldn't taste food let alone eat and I think the coffee was actually calming me down.
Wow, what a great game for Wing's fans, Pav back and Oz with an assist, you knew it was a Red night all around.
Wings are on the door step of back to back cups, unbelivable how special that truley is.

How about the youth of the Pens coming out in the dirty slashes and fighting in the 3rd? They still have much to learn.
At the end of the 2nd when the cheap stuff started happening you could tell they were losing their heads. I want to know what happened in the locker room in between periods. When Pens backup goalie got checked behind the net and lost the helmet, he was the only one that attempted to go after the Red Wings guy that hit him (forgot who it was), all the other Pens just skated on by.

Ryan Ermanni FOX 2 Sports PITTSBURGH - Let's say the Red Wings win Game 5 Saturday night and have a chance to hoist the Stanley Cup in Pittsburgh.
That means some of the team's faithful fans will be making another trip to Steel City. But one fan FOX 2's Ryan Ermanni caught up with has already left his mark in a big way.
No worries here, if the Wings lose tonight, they will take it in game 7. I still would rather see them get this done than drag it out.

Wouldn't you prefer to see your beloved Red Wings skating around Joe Louis Arena while holding the Cup rather than doing so in some foreign rink?
Or... or... or... deep down inside you're afraid the mighty Wings might choke in game seven?
My answer is the same as below.

And to answer the first part of the question. Why would I want them to lose a game, just to have the chance to skate the cup at home. Of course it will be very special to see it on home ice (I was at game 5 last year, triple OT loss, I know the feeling). But if you have the chance, win it now.
As for tonight, these are 2 very good teams. I am not shocked at all to see the Pens win. This is definately a home ice series, and going into game 7, I am confident in the Wings. they have scored 11 goals at JLA to Pittsburgh's 2. Does that mean much? Not really, it's now a best of 1, but again, I like our chances.
GO WINGS!!!

The NHL and NBC couldn't ask for a better way to market hockey in the States than a Stanley Cup final series game seven with two American teams on a Friday night.
Woohoo!

Which leads me to believe that there were some Benjamins influencing the wings a bit in the first to periods to keep it close, and or flat out throw it so the game ended up happening...
The players could easily see a half a mill each from throwing that game based on just the ticket profits alone, along with all of the money from the broadcast rights, restaurants in the area... concessions.

NHL, NBC pull plug on ‘Joe Vision’ for Red Wings’ Game 6 of Stanley Cup Finals
Don’t look for Joe Vision this year.
The Detroit Red Wings say they couldn’t reach a deal to air Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals for fans gathered at Joe Louis Arena, as the team has done in the past during road playoff games.
“We will not hold ‘Joe Vision’ for Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final as we were unable to secure the broadcast rights to show this game in the arena,” said Karen Cullen in an e-mail to Crain’s today. She’s the vice president of corporate communications for Ilitch Holdings Inc., the central business entity of team owners Mike and Marian Ilitch.
The event allows fans to watch the team at the arena when a victory could clinch Detroit’s 12th Stanley Cup. It started 15 years ago.
NBC Sports has the U.S. broadcast rights for all of the finals games, and CBC has the Canadian rights.
A source familiar with the negotiations, who agreed to speak on the condition of anonymity, said the National Hockey League refused to let the team air with the NBC or CBC broadcast of the game at the arena.
Last year’s Game 6 used the CBC feed, which the NHL didn’t reject.
A near-sellout of Joe Louis could shave a ratings point off the local television ratings measurement, and such ratings are used to establish advertising rates.
Each ratings point represents 19,270 households in the Detroit market.
The refusal to allow the team to either the game was likely a joint decision by the league and networks, the source said.
An e-mail seeking comment was left for Brian Walker, NBC Sports’ senior director of communications.
Instead of Joe Vision, the Ilitch-owned Hockeytown Café will hold a “Cafe Vision” viewing party, Cullen said.
“Fans can enjoy the game on one of the café’s 30 HD plasma televisions, the big screen in the City Theatre and outside on the café patio’s 9-by-12 screen. The patio will include a special Wings BBQ and beer stands. Fans are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs for the outdoor viewing,” Cullen said.
There is no cover charge at the Hockeytown Café.
In previous seasons, Joe Vision reportedly drew up to 15,000 fans that paid a nominal fee to watch the team play finals games on the road, including Game 6 against Pittsburgh last year.
NBC is reportedly about to sign a two-year extension of its broadcast rights deal with the National Hockey League, through 2011. The current deal calls for the league and NBC to split revenue after costs, and isn’t the mega lump-sum payment relationship seen with more popular sports such as pro football.
The league also has television deals with broadcast and cable networks such as Versus, the CBC, TSN and others.
NBC came under fire for scheduling the first two finals games this year on back to back weekend nights — keeping the games out of prime time during the week — for the first time since 1954.
Those games showed an 11 percent viewership increase over 2008 with a 3.0 ratings, meaning about 3 million people tuned in.
Games 3 and 4 were on Versus had significant ratings boost over 2008, when the channel aired games 1 and 2. This year’s Game 4 saw a 2.8 rating, the highest in Versus’ history.
Geez, if the Canucks were in the finals there would be plenty of chatter every single day here!
Nervous chatter.....LOL
We fans here in Detroit are anxious to watch the game, but speaking for me personally, why would I be nervous? I have full confidence in the Wings. They have been to the finals before, hey know the task at hand.
Win or lose, this has been one of the best Stanley Cup Finals I have ever witnessed. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Pitt is an awesome team, and they are very deserving. If they do not win this year, they will be back. I'll bet both these teams will be back next year.
