And Malkin isn't the saint he's made out to be. He deserved the suspension...any other player (except Cindy...err...Sidney Crosby) gets that suspension, had a Red Wing done it, they'd have gotten the game to sit and think about their actions. Malkin knew he would skate (no pun intended) on that suspension. Look for game 3 to be a Bettman special.
Geez, I wonder which team you're pulling for?
For someone to be the instigator in a fight, there needs to be an actual fight. For there to be a fight, there needs to be an punch thrown and landed. Neither one of these two European players could punch their way out of a wet paper bag (and that's fine, because that's not what they're being paid big bucks to do).
Colin Campbell made the right call by overruling the suspension. Suspending one of the most talented players in the series for something this minor would've been a real shame. Cooler heads prevailed.
For anyone wondering what we're talking about...

Oh come now, you can't say there wasn't a punch landed, that poor linesman (or ref, I don't remember who was in the middle of it, and youtube is blocked at work) got hit fairly frequently

Funny you should mention that. If you watch the "fight" you'll notice Zetterberg gets a whole lot more "aggressive" (ie. drops his gloves) after the linesman gets between him and Malkin.

DVR/Tivo, whatever you have. Tape it, drive home after the squash match, start the game at the beginning, and watch it like it's live.
Now I tried this during the Wings/Ducks series. My daughter had a hockey game, 1 1/2 hours from home, from 7-8:30 with the Wings game on at 7:30. I did the DVR thing, and went to the game. i took the antennae of my car to prevent temptation to list to the game. I spoke to all the parents on the team and told them my plan. i let them know NOT to tell me the score (or so I thought). One of the Dad's came in late. I saw him looking at his phone during the game. DId not think much of it. I was above him on a balcony. A bit of time goes by, and he turns around and yells up to me and a few other dad's, Wings up 2 - 0. I about wanted to wring his neck. Not his fault, but still not happy.
I watched what I could after her game on the TV at the rink. We left and I put the antennae on the car and we listened to the remainder of the game on the way home.
We are so connected these days, it is hard to do what i suggested, but you can have fun trying.
GO WINGS!!!!

Oh I am passionate about the game. I am just not a nut case.
I still say the WIngs in 6, maybe 7. The WIngs are by far the better team in terms of experience and knowing what it takes to win. Pittsburgh is a good team, and will only get better. They have to lose to know how to win, ask the Wings, they went through it as well.
GO WINGS!

I want to see the nut and the toad go head to head.
Sorry, it ain't going to happen.
I'd probably be a bit more passionate about the playoffs if the Canucks were still involved, but when neither team is "mine", it doesn't really matter as much. That doesn't mean I can't enjoy the playoffs anymore, on the contrary, I can probably sit back and just simply enjoy the games for what they are - two highly talented hockey teams duking it out.
My assessment at this point is that Detroit is by far the better team. The Wings have so many super talented players and they certainly seem to play as a well coached, cohesive unit. I’m kind of at a loss as to how Pittsburgh got this far, but to be honest, I really haven’t seen them play very many times this year. They must have something going for them besides Crosby and Malkin.
In situations like this it’s fun to cheer for the underdog. The Penguins are definitely in this position. Detroit has had their share of success the last few years, let’s see someone else win the cup this time around. However, if Detroit wins it all again, well what the heck, it's not as if they don't deserve it.
So you see, the Nut and the Toad ain’t going to be fighting. This is all in fun.

Dare I say it.... Maybe a few too many Europeans on the Wings this year?
< checks flame suit >
Typical statement from a Canadian............(ducks and runs)
Yes the Wings looked like complete crap last night (except for Osgood & Lidstrom). How many times do you pull the goalie East/West before shooting and scoring. The Pens looked liked the Red Wings, playing tic tac toe with the puck. The WIngs desperately need Datsyuk, and home ice.
Do not underestimate the home ice advantage in hockey, and it appears it is going to play a major role in this series, as the coaches get the match-ups they want with the last change. I still like the WIngs chances, as they have 2 of 3 at home. I am still going with Wings in 7. The home team will be the winner of every game in this series.
In my memory, this is about the most even Stanley Cup Finals I have ever witnessed.

Hey, I don't mind the comment. Seriously.
When you grow up in a country where the Stanley Cup is looked upon as the sporting world's Holy Grail, it's not difficult to imagine that a Canadian hockey player would dig down just a little bit deeper than his non-Canadian opponent to walk away with the Cup.
I don't know if this has changed in the last decade or so, but when the Swedes etc first started coming over here to play in the NHL, they would openly admit that winning an IIHF World Championship was more important to them than winning the Stanley Cup. To them the Stanley Cup had no history, no real significance. To a Canadian, it's the ultimate sports award bar none.
So who do you think is going to push themselves a little harder to win this final series, Sidney Crosby from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada... or Henrik Zetterberg from Njurunda, Sweden?

Well since you asked, last year, it appears that our Swedes played harder to win the Stanley Cup than Sidney (a canadian).
Now having said that, I do understand where you are coming from, and in the past I think that was very true, but today with all the exposure, I think players from all countries recognize the significance of the Stanley Cup, and most if not all players are willing to sacrifice to win it.
I know in the past the Swedes were thought of as "soft" players, and many were. But having watched this team all my life, and watched them go from the "dead things" in the 70's to the team they are today, I would say our Swedes are anything but soft. Ask Tomas Holmstrom, with his 4 Stanley Cups, and multiple slashes on his calfs, if he is soft. The guy takes more punishment than any other player in the league.
One last comment about our Swedes. Niklas Lidstrom is the first European born Captain to win the Stanley Cup. I recently saw an interview with him, and he talks about how proud he is to have that honor, and that the Cup has such a huge significance too him.

Well, I'm sure "your" Swedes could kick the ass of the blind ice hockey team (all Canadians) that I volunteer with. Obviously there's more to it than simply where all the players on each team have been born.

I recently saw Lidstrom interviewed as well after one of the recent games. I was really impressed with how well spoken he is. His command of the English language is fantastic, and he has no apparent (or very little) accent. He could pass for someone who's been born in the States or Canada. One smart cookie!

It takes a team to win the Cup, so If Pitt does win, then their Russian players like Malkin and Gonchar will have played just as hard to win the prize? Me thinks Malkin is the best player on the ice right now.

If you're lucky, the game is on CBC, and it's just about to start.

I agree 100%. The first 5 minutes I was wondering what the heck was going on. Then it was "Good-night Pitt" from that point on. I still fel Pitt will win game six and Detroit will wrap it up in the 7th game. These are 2 extremely talented teams, and home ice is HUGE for both.
It was nice to see Datsyuk back, and contributing!!!! 5 - zip SHUT-OUT!!! ALL HAIL THE GREAT OZ!

SO + an assist! Big night for Ozzy. As for the Wings, I only caught 2nd period on. Awesome game. Very happy to run inside, turn the game on, and see 4-0. I'm saying Wings in 6. With Datsyuk back, they'll just turn it on and steam roll them. As long as they aren't cheap shotting....not that the Pens would ever do that.
