This car has been parked at a house for awhile now,I pass it every day going to work almost.
I thought it was a GTP,could tell it was a sport package type-figured 3800SC

Kept telling myself to stop in,but i've met the kid that lives there and he's on methadone-weirded etc..
Saw a moving trailer there today (on my way home from asking a buddy to watch auctions and pick me up an 04 impSS wrecked if he saw one) figured if I was gonna stop now would be the time.

Asked the older lady what they were doing with the car,if it was for sale.
She said $50 but it's gotta be gone today.

"Hold on mam,let me borrow a truck and i'll be back in 10m"

Borrowed an oil changers truck at work since the parts truck was gone, and grabbed a 1" thick nylon rope and air tank (flat tire)
Picked up a buddy on the way and off we go.
Had no key(or title) but the column wasn't locked.
Told the lady before no problem,I could just manually put it in neutral.
That was extreeeemly hard to do,the turbo is right over the blank space above the trans.
Tire wouldn't air up,so we just tied it up and yanked it back in the street.
Buddy jumped in the driver seat and we pulled it to my house (1/2mile) with 10ft of nylon rope and a flat tire.

I will be parting it out, engine and trans will be swapped into my 88.
Not sure about the rest, might integrate the in car computer screen and HUD display.
I do plan to probably use the vents, sorry ex.

Going to see what the wheels look like on my wifes gold impala if they fit.

Honestly i'm still thinking.
I had already decided what I wanted to do swap wise I thought.
But been keeping options open for whatever I come across.

1989 turbo grand prix= 751 cars.
1990= 3,714 cars produced.
1990 Turbo STE -1,000 cars.

That makes me wanna maybe just yank the engine/trans and sell the rolling chassis on ebay.
If I were into these cars,I wouldn't want it just parted and trashed I know.
We'll just see what happens.
I have dropped an email to the guy running the TGP registry to see what info he wants from the car.
So at least the info will be retained.

LOL He will probably urge you to keep it intact.

I know its yours to do with as you please, but this is a case of the whole being more desireable than the sum of the parts.

I had no idea what it was when I stopped.
When I saw the "turbo" on the rear I knew it was kinda rare.

I don't mind keeping it intact, and i've been an enthusiast of various cars for years so the seed is in me to keep it that way.
But I can't have another project,can't happen.

I'm not opposed to selling it to keep it intact so someone can restore.
At the same time,I realize the score I got when I found this powertrain.
Easier to install than a 3800,and I can only kid myself that i'll find the car i'm looking for on my $~2kish budget so I can get what I need.
It's the best of both worlds, almost a bolt in replacement and factory boosted.

I've joined the W-body forum, and will post it up there maybe.
I have no desire whatsoever in rebuilding it,and honestly would want far more than I paid to sell it as is.
Now after I pull the powertrain,I have no issue with selling it like that and likely will.
It's still the same car, think of it as a starting point.

What would it go for complete and running?
I'll have time to start getting the engine going thursday afternoon probably.

Just a question I don't think I've seen addressed. Have you tried to see if the motor will spin? It's possible the reason it was sitting there for so long was because the motor is ceased.

Even so, with a rebuild that's a nice score! Grats

It's got one off crank, forged rods, mahle pistons, one off block etc...
I could build it with something else, but it would cost me an extra penny.

Owner's mom told me something was wrong with the turbocharger thingy.
Her son bought it a couple years ago,not long after had to park it for the issue he couldn't afford.
They took a pulley off it to put on something else, and someone slashed the front tire.
Other than that, she just bitched about him spending $1800 on it with payments till he paid it off and he couldn't even drive it the past year.
Oh,and she seemed real proud of the crappy everstart battery that they put in it new and only started the car once with it.

oh yeah,my buddy is the one who told me it needed a wastegate.
he was pissed when I called him to help me get it.
Apparently someone told him about it and what was wrong with it,he had been trying to get ahold of the lady to buy it.

I will of course check compression etc..
I'll trigger the starter tomorrow and see what happens, won't have time for any more than that though.
Even if it needs a quick rebuild,it's a hellova start and my cars noises are getting stranger.
(and i'm tired of no reverse or overdrive)

I own a business and am a technician at a dealership.
If I needed a title,I could easily title 42/mechanic's lien to get a title I think.
I know all the other guy's get them pretty easily.
Lot of paperwork my boss told me one time, but a buddy just paid a friend at a salvage to get him a title.

I have no desire for that headache though.

I'd recommend you keep the car in one piece, clean it and sell it at a profit. Stay with your original plan for a 3800.

Which one?
For me,it's a bolt in replacement cause I don't have to weld anything. All the rest is easy stuff,I just don't like to weld.
As for finding the car I need in my ~2kish budget, yeah I could find everything a heck of alot cheaper than that for an L67.
But I'm looking specifically for a 2004 or 2005 impala SS.
If pushed and my engine goes,I would default with what I could find-but the search is for that specific vehicle which isn't easy to find.

Posted up at the other forum, got an offer to buy the body kit and nasty remark regarding a wasted TGP and owner not wanting to try.
Think i'll just stay away from that place and do as I do.
You never know, maybe i'll happen across something that'll work better. I got plenty of room and always looking for parts cars.
Nothing will be done immediately regarding this anyway,be a few weeks.

It's why the wife will let me use some extra cash from another budget for the project

She has an 04 impala ls that we are slowly converting to an SS.
She'll throw in some cash and let me use the car maintenance fund also with my small stash to buy one.
She needs a transmission soon and i've talked her into swapping in a 4t65HD.
I would take the longblock with her topend and trans, she would take the supercharger and trans along with the rest to
finish the conversion over on her car like steering wheel, seatcovers etc..

It's the ideal situation, this car really wasn't and I would rather have the L67.
But I don't question blessings, just thank god for them.

I seen one last year( A Mclaren) in a local u pull it yard with the complete 3.1 turbo, hood vents and I was soo sad that my priority and cash on hand did not let me pull the motor and vents ..came back a few weeks later and the vents and the fuel injectors, intercooler were gone and the intake was just setting there on top of the motor with the hood up after some heavy rain ..i was sooo pissed

Not much going on at work so I just came home for the day (Ford technician).
Tried to pick the ignition lock to get the key turned on and see where i'm at.
Somebody has already tried that though and messed up the pins enough it broke my lucky diamond pick.
So I guess i'll be hotwireing the ignition.
Offhand if anybody has an ignition wiring diagram I could use it,also I didn't see any way to start pulling the steering wheel or column cover to get to the ignition switch.
I can do it under the dash, but i'm sure i'm missing something simple.
Looks to be missing the idler pulley and tensioner assembly, other than that pretty much complete.
Here's the interior, looks like somebody got into some sauce and just starting punching pretty stuff.
Some people have no respect for vehicles at all.
Interior actually looks like it will clean up nice, maybe some new carpet.
Seats look good, just need cleaned I think.
Trunk was almost spotless, nothing in it unfortunately.
It did have a brand new nice set of 6x9" Kenwoods in it,not the cheapies either
They will fit nicely into the rear deck on the wifes impala.
I'm honestly not seeing a whole lot that I want from it.
Reading descriptions from online, the HUD gets it's inputs from boards in the speedo.
I was hoping to just route inputs to it parallel with the speedo inputs.
In the middle of a digital dash build, and don't really wanna scrap it as i'm most of the way home.
I'm betting a for sale ad will be up before the end of the week, but i've not even turned the key on yet so who knows.

Once again, I am highly against parting it out. Unless it's rusted to bits, It does not look horrible to fix up, I'm sure we have seen a lot worse Fiero's out there. As you know it wasn't something you see everyday, even when they were brand new. Almost 20 years later, I'm not sure how many are left. "Its just one" doesn't really cut it either, what if 300-400 people said that over the years? And they are actually worth a good chunk of money, unlike 84 Fiero's, which I see people parting out left and right. And the other members where right, it is easiler to put in a L67 because all the bolt on brackets are available to you. Mr_jacob7 put one in, but he had trouble with the Alternator hitting the decklid, you can buy a low mount alt bracket for the L67.

But its your car, not mine. So I have no say in its fate. I apologize if I offended anyone, I just had to say something.

Just saw one of these about a week ago in a junk yard south side chicago. ABC auto parts I think it was. Car looked pretty complete from the outside but didn't look at the engine or anything.

My wife confirmed my best option was to part it out.
Not worth the time money or hassle. I could do it,and it wouldn't even be a huge deal but I don't want to sacrifice the time.
I have very little time with my family as is,and my kids need me along with my wife.

I'm gonna see what I can use or integrate in possible future projects and sell the rest for funds to rebuild the engine.
I see no sense in changing an engine that hasn't been freshened up.
My buddy works at a local dyno shop that specializes in custom turbo kits among other things.
Hopefully i've got enough favor to get a good deal on whatever I decide to do.

First I need to find the time to pull the powertrain, maybe this weekend.

I would hold out for a title and sell it as is...

Parting it out wont get you very far at all, there are very few "good" parts on it, and I mean good as in valuable.

Parting it out will get me pretty dang far I figure.
I've already been offered twice what I paid for the whole car for one part.
Car paid for,$50 in pocket, engine and trans swap, turbo kit, another possible $400 worth of parts already sold through pm's.
Far enough for me,but i'm easy.

Brad your SOL on the football,my son asked me if he could have it and I gave it to him.

Went out tonight for a little while to pull the new Kenwood 6x9's from the rear deck to put in my wifes car.
Had my interior tool kit with me so ended up pulling alot of other stuff.

Pulled the C pillars down and map light console.
Also pulled the computer display unit, climate controls and stereo, center console and shifter.
Had to drop the steering column real quick to disconnect the shift interlock cable.
Didn't have my wiring diagram and didn't feel like hooking up the battery or cables so I didn't hotwire the ignition.
Haven't pulled them yet,but found a sweet set of Kenwood 4x6's in the door also that will fit in my fiero temporarily while I build my dash.
Also found a steering wheel controls adapter partially connected to the stereo.

Earlier today I got out there and attempted to trigger the starter.
Only had a few basic tools though and couldn't pull the dogbone to get the fan out to access the starter well enough.
I did get my remote starter switch hooked up momentarily and got it to crank over about a half turn each time I hit it.
Don't have enough voltage going to it though.
My lawnmower battery (which I use to power parts cars) is in our church's school bus currently and I don't feel like yanking one of my others-jumpers aren't cutting it.

I got out there too late tonight so didn't want to turn on the compressor and use the air tools to remove the seats.
My neighbors are far enough away it probably doesn't matter, but again I would need to power the car up to move the driver seat forward (I tested it earlier and it works).
Tomorrow if I leave work early i'll get the seats pulled and cleaned up.
They look to be in great shape, along with the rears.

Well,she starts and runs!
Turned right over and started.
Well actually it wouldn't start at first, fire but no fuel.
Finally heard the pump come on,check the shrader valve and just got pressurized air.
Poured a little bit in the tank and cycled the key...

Fired right off!!

Intercooler to TB pipe is disconnected for the moment.
Tach is not ready correctly nor is the oil pressure it seems.
That's all wiring, and I can work on that later (i'm contemplating using the dash cluster)
