Two bicycle races that weekend: SEPTEMBER 19, 2009 TOUR DE TUCK The 105-mile ride has approximately 11,000 feet of elevation gain with a vertical mile between the high and low points on the route. Over 40 of these miles are on the Blue Ridge Parkway, giving us the distinction of having the most Parkway miles of any organized ride in the Appalachians. The 60-mile route has approximately 6,800 feet of elevation gain with over 25 miles of riding on the Blue Ridge Parkway, also 6 miles on US23/74. One of my favorite rides!!
SEPTEMBER 20, 2009 BRIDGE TO BRIDGE Century ride around the Boone NC acrea. Famous for it's brutal climbs and finishes with the gruellingly steep 2 mile road up to Grandfather Mountain.

Last chance to get an event tshirt. We're closing out the store tonight. If you plan to get a shirt, go to http://www.gafiero.org/shop.shtml and place your order through our paypal link. Mail orders are no longer accepted.

Unless you have to go to Cleveland for other reasons, you'd be better off getting off I-75 in Sweetwater at Highway 68. Take 68 South to Telico Plains and pick up the north end of the Cherohala Skyway right there. I'll email you more directions to bring you direct to Franklin from the south end of the skyway in Robbinsville.

If you're planning to go on RFTH, and you're in the Atlanta area, please come to our club meeting tomorrow. Meeting location map here. And the shirt printer has agreed to print more, so if you wanted one, but didn't order in time, you have another chance. Run (and shirt) info here.

Heading out for RFTH in a few minutes. I should be there around dinner time tonight. Anyone else heading up early? I'm thinking about driving the Dragon / Cherohala loop on Friday... just as a warm up, of course.
Currently, weather.com is predicting 60% change of rain on Fri. and 50% on Sat. Hopefully we'll get lucky, but I'm sure it'll be a fun ride regardless. Everyone drive safe!

I arrived and got checked in this afternoon. Rain has been spotty most of the trip. It's overcast, but no rain in Franklin. From Asheville West I hit some spotty sprinkles, but nothing to be concerned about. Hopefully the weather for the weekend will be at least as good.
Next year, how about finding a hotel with high-speed internet? I'm posting this at 28.8k.
