If the "get together" is just a few days after Christmas into that weekend I may have to take two trips. I will be in Tomball for Christmas and I may have to take my kids back to Austin then turn around and head back down to Galveston in the Fiero.

Thanks for inviting us again. There are quite a few Miatas in the Houston area. They have planned a YO Weekend in Kerrville this coming weekend. If you want the word spread, I will be joining them at the YO. Just let me know, I'm good at spreading the word about fun driving events !

Galveston RED RIVER RUCKUS RIP-ROARING RENDEZVOUS...
Since Rendezvous has a NASA connotation, maybe the artwork can show Fieros docking in space on their way to the moon, (which happens to look like Galveston)

Can we pose our fieros next to the Apollo rocket? And are you going to have freeze dried food for a meal? I'm in no matter what. Galveston Red River Ruckus of Relaxation and Rejuvenation and Rebirth. Sounds a little spa ish or something. Might be able to do the thing in dec or whatever.

funny! Too bad about the big rocket though... NASA built a hella shed around it to keep it out of the elements. Maybe someday my garage will be that big
I vote for a full tour of all Houston toll roads. That experience should take about 3 months and the federal defecit to accomplish.... that is if traffic is light...
Jon... you might PM revin... we were down there recently and a pretty cool ecclectic joint that his parents recommended for chow has a side pavillion or something. They might could host our group. I think it was called Shrimp & Such. Just tossing that out there, even if it doesn't work out, the joint had a groovy vibe and is worth a visit.
Posing our cars next to the Apollo Rocket use to be possible, but now the rocket is indoors, which makes that difficult, (they built a building around it)
It might be possible to work a group rate at Space Center Houston if anyone is interested for Sunday (or Monday).
Freeze Dried food? It's possible, but maybe as a goodie bag item. Someone will have to show me how to get sponsors, maybe they'l kick in for the freeze dried ice cream.
Mustangs...don't worry you can enjoy Galveston without seeing Houston at all.

New Year's eve dinner at the King's Table restaurant and a short cruise for fireworks in Texas City. A great show about 10:00pm at the entrance to the 5-mile dike. Then, plenty of time to get back on the island for midnight activities on the Strand.

I NEED a bolt for an 88 caliper !!!!! see the other ruckus pic thread!!!!!! that was my problem
Hmmm, what does "(this will be taken out)" mean?
Also, can you get that caliper bolt around Pflugerville? If not, I can get it here at a local bolt supply house where I got mine when I copied your brake set up.
Jonathan, no problem getting them. They are specially hardened for brake applications. The OEM bolts that hold the brackets on and the bolts that hold the calipers to the brackets are the same, if I remember correctly. I just had to buy 8 of them. The ones I got were too long but I just cut them off so they would not hit on the rotors and bind up. Other than that, everything worked great and I have had no issues of any kind with them.
I will have to remove one of mine and take it to the bolt supply house and get 8 like it, I guess.
Do you want me to get them? I can mail them to you. You can buy my dinner in Galveston!
He's suggesting that I get NASA to take a picture of Fieros on the seawall from Space. The distance to the space center is not in the equation. And It's probably closer to 30 miles if anyone is interested in a side trip.

I'm in for a end of year celebration definetely, and most likely for the RRRRRRRRR(how many?)RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRuckus too. Orange really seemed to like the coast...
After this year's event Jed and I went down to Galveston for a couple days (I had never been) and I really liked the Flagship Hotel, it's the one that's built on the pier and the balcony views on the upper floors are great- it probably wouldn't be great for the Ruckus since there wasn't a good, large meeting area but I think for the after-Xmas gathering it would be cool. Just an idea.

I forgot that I wrote this back in March, and I just now found it on my flash drive. So I thought why not share it here.

When a continued practice becomes established, it can be called a tradition. Lately it seems old traditions have been challenged like never before, and there are obstacles to most efforts of starting and maintaining any new patterns.
Galveston is a city with a resilient sense of tradition. Over the years, neither storms nor changing cultures have much affected the way of life on the island. Business, entertainment and recreation all still thrive here. Vacationers return year after year, and the locals are entrenched from generation to generation.
Car enthusiasts are big on tradition. Admiration for classic style, mechanical persistence, and father/son teamwork are just some examples. Although Fiero owners often enjoy trying new things, they still harbor an attraction to the stock configuration as it came from the assembly line.
In Texas, the Ruckus can now be considered a tradition. Born from the desire to regroup six months after San Antonio’s Roundup, this nomadic October event has always been – and appears to remain – a popular activity for those in need of a weekend away from their daily stress.
But it’s not tradition that makes the Ruckus great. It’s not the location, the activities, or even the cars that make it a fantastic weekend. It’s the people, the Fiero enthusiasts. And you are one of ‘em. You belong with us on these occasions, and we look forward to your company. So, whether your Fiero is an attention-grabber or a dirt-grabber, it makes no difference to us.
Lone Star Fieros invites you to Galveston, October 11-12, 2008, to keep the Ruckus tradition alive another year.

I am looking forward to it Jscott. I hopr I can make it. Dates are crucial. I have no idea of which week I will have off. Hmmm..., I also want to share a few planning facts that I learned the hard way. #1). Get your Fiero ready before the week of the event. Last minute details will kill you(r) Fiero, . I have some more but am catching up with off time. I am gonna start a thread. "Confessioins Of A Fiero Rally Planner". So we can get input from the greater community.

The Flagship hotel is historically one of the most ragged, bug infested, dirty, paint peeling hotels on the island. It was built and run by the city immediately after the 1961 hurricane (and for 45 years more) as a lure to get people to return to the island. They didn't! As a result, the city had no funds with which to keep it up to standards being met by competitors. They have tried and tried to sell that POS. The asking price and the real value was literally millions of dollars apart. A couple of years ago they finally managed find a buyer(s) for about $750.000.00, I understand. Is it better now? I don't know.
Someone check it out, please.
There are many hotels, condos, etc available on the island and just off the island for reasonable prices at the Christmas/New Year's time of the year. We'll have a ball!

A little birddie whispered in my ear that having two official events in Galveston in one year would not likely be well attended...
So here is my thoughts on the Galveston Beach After-Ruckus Fling (G-BARF) 2007
You can count the wife and me in for the G-Barf. After Christmas any time is good, or after the First on 2008. We have children and grandchildren there and will not need any overnight accomadations Joe Crawford Pointblank
Only rear pictures cause the driver side headlight door broke during wind/speed testing and is now not so attractive
The Flagship was actually not bad. Saw a few bugs on the balcony and the 7th floor smelled a little mildewy (it was closed, possibly due to the smell, but we were ghost hunting) but overall just as good and just as clean as any other hotel/motel in it's price range. However, I appreciate uniqueness nearly as much as amenities when it comes to lodging, and I may be alone in that. It was just a suggestion- I'm fine with anywhere anyone chooses. (Let's not forget the prison cells I picked at Canyon Lake )

Great, Amber. You've checked out the Flagship recently then. Thanks.
For the price that is advertised for the 27 Dec. thru 1 Jan. time frame, it is reasonable. There is some better priced and some worse priced and some MUCH worse priced, of course. Overall, the Flagship does have a great parking area, fishing area, nearby cheesy (but must visit) souvenier shops, easy acess to the free tour bus to the Strand and really good views from almost all rooms regardless of floor level.
Wherever, though, Jonathon/Chuck, it time to get crackin' Actually, anywhere on the Island is really o.k. Get us some site and we'll start the reservations.
The Hotel Galvez across the street is a MUST DO for Sun, Dec 30 Brunch for those who are there (I will be, my wife made me promise!). Cheap prices! About $16.00/person, if I remember right. No reservations required.
