Hey Archie, what would be the total height and clearance using your power lift system if two choptops are used?

1. What is the height of #020 on the ramp lift (not raised just sitting on the ramps)?
2. What would be the height of #020 being raised to clear another choptop with the same height?

A 9' ramp (I'm about to buy) will be enough to clear both choptops in the garage, but the missing component (X) is the ramps height. Giving each choptop is a about 42-44" in height x 2 + the ramp height = less than 9'.
Granted the dealers says, "yes, it will clear," but he doesn't have any pics to prove this. Until then it's a theory. If your 6' 3" + 3' = 9' I might be able to swing it?

I did the math for my garage using the "backyard buddy" and my garage at 9' 4" was just barely enough to fit a chop top and a bubble top. http://www.backyardbuddy.com/

I think two chop tops might fit in 9 feet but the other variable is that the lifts can't just stop wherever, (safely) You have to be on one of the locking positions, and there are only so many.

also just food for thought if you plan on storeing a car underneath the lift you may want to get on with removable ramps. other wise you will have to have some one hold the ramps up when you drive under them becasue they will hang down in the way.

Good point. I wonder if the approach ramps are removable?

Thanks Jonathan for info. Did you get any measurements of the width from post to post (left to right)?

I don't know if I can find the measurements, but I recall it was less than half the width of my garage, (which is tiny) so about 10 feet or so wide.

Well She has MS. It'e been getting pretty bad the last year or so & she's gone downhill a lot.

The reason we've stayed in the greater Chicago area is that she has one of the leading MS dr's. in the world.

After sitting in the Dr. office for almost 6 hours today we found out that (if the insurance co. will pay for it) she will be getting a very new drug that only 300 people are getting right now.

It'll take 5 or 6 weeks to get her old MS drugs out of her system & get insurance approval, then she gets the new stuff.

We are quite excited.

Not to further hijack...but best wishes Archie. I lost a family member recently after a very short illness of less than a week. Times like this make you think about what's important in life. That's why I will be at the 25th this summer. Money will be tight, but it's more important to do what's best, the bills will get paid...they always do.

Thanks guys. I didn't mean to take this off topic but I just had to tell someone.

I'd give everything I have if she could have just one day without MS symptoms. But you can't buy that.

I'd be happy with a 15 minute walk in the park next Spring without a wheel chair or a walker or cane.

Anyway, Thanks guys.

not trying to get nosey and feel free not to reply to this but if the new drug you are trying is called Tysabri , Then you might be on a good tract. Talking with a cpl of the doctors here and doing some research in the medical journals (I work in a hospital btw) this drug has HUGE postives with a very high sucess rate at making life much better with MS. If there is ever anything I can do for you just let me know.

For all practical purposes the bed on my lift is just short of 4.5" thick.

A properly lowered chop top will be from 41 to 42" tall, we'll call it 42"

Allowing say 1.5" between the bottom of the lift & the top of the car underneath, 2 cars will stack up to 90.5".

Archie, will your lift stop at any point? The lift I was looking at only had safety stops every 4 or 6 inches. If you just miss one it might add almost 4 to 6 inches. You could let the air out of the tires on the top car but with Curley's low profile tires that wouldn't buy you much.

Well the safety locks are 4" apart.

I just measured & the lift does have a safety lock at 44" so that would work.

You will note that I have edited the numbers above. The total height of stacked cars is 90.5".

Not to hijack my own thread (and using one of Martin Lawrence's famous line), but Jonathan.....you can't call nobody? That's why it's always important to talk to friends on a weekly basis. As for Archie and his wife's situation, we both talk on regular basis and it isn't always about those darn choptops, but rather life and it's complications and occasional happiness we all share. Heck, we almost lost Troyboy last year and I felt bad in not expessing to him on all of the details.

How can a person air-out their grief, sadness, and occasional happiness if people don't communicate? Sometimes if you let time slip away by not communicating with friends and later on your friend finds out about (your) situation, it makes it very hard for (that) person (whom knows but can't say anything) to make that "leap of faith" by calling. Besides, that very person may have or have knowledge of how to deal with the very problem your experiencing, right? Okay, end of rant and back to the subject, hehe.

Thanks Archie for the info on the 44". I know you have more important things to do, but what's the name of your electric lift, 110 or 220? A picture of #025 above and #020 beneath would be a timeless classic (hint, hint).

With all the bodywork going on in here right now & with the Muira on the lift, it's going to be a few days before we can do a photo op of chops.

The lift is 110v. It's a Superior 800-526-9992. Post to post width is 107". Post to post length is 165".

Thanks Archie for the info and will become very useful before #020 arrives later in CA to join it's older sibblings (#011,#015).

Archie, Sorry to hear of your wifes condition. I have a good friend here whose wife has had it for many years, so I'm familiar with it. I would suggest to anyone who wants to help find a cure that a good way is to sign up for an MS150 bicycle ride in your area. The people are great and the rides raise millions of dollars annually to fight MS. I've done the one here in Virginia for the last 18 years and the folks you meet and the friendships you make are priceless. The money raised on the rides has helped to make real progress in allowing patients to maintain a better quality of life. Best wishes to you and your wife,

Jim

I've ridden the MS150 twice from Houston to Austin, and I'm afraid my days of riding 180+ miles on a bicycle are over...however, I would be happy to sponsor someone else if they are riding.
