I almost have the bracket R&D finished!! I hope to have them ready by December. I will be offering 3 styles. The twin 90mm rounds, 90mm high Rectangles and a blank face for those with their own light combos.
Sweet! I know a lot of people have been waiting for this mod. I like the idea that you will be offering one with a blank face. This really opens the door for people to use whatever headlights they choose. Although in my opinion the 90mm rounds are the best look an a Fiero. Of course people have different tastes though.

So do you guys think that this will make headlight motors last longer since they don't have to go up and down nearly as far now?
This is something that I would like to look at doing to the Fiero that I end up buying, so I will definitely be interested in some brackets that are a bolt in affair.

I doubt it would make a measurable difference. The motors still have to apply the same amount of force to raise and lower the headlights themselves, as well as push open the headlight doors.

Fiero1Fan - Can you give us a breakdown on the cost of this "mod"?? I am curious to see what it should cost the avg owner for the lights, bracket and any other misc things needed for this mod.
Anyone else - Can someone post a comparison pic of the stock lights VS the aftermarket mod lights at night? Lights shining on a wall at night would really show the peanut gallery just how much better this aftermarket setup is compared to stock. In my opinion, the mod is not worth doing if it sacrifices ANY amount of light output.

Costs breakdown as follows:
Hella 90mm lights: US @ $60 - 115 a piece depending on bulb, Germany @ 90€ a piece for the H7 the H3 bulbs are not allowed here. Bracket: Yet to be determined Mounting hardware: Y-cable adapter for the wiring harness. Yet to be determined. No other mounting hardware needed.
I don't have the lights mounted yet to get the light pattern. Yellowstone has them and is very happy with them and Suufmeister. Maybe one of them can add their info here.

Pictures of headlight performance are of dubious value. It's not just about light output, it's more about light distribution. Projector-type lights (like the Hella 90 mm low beam modules) generally provide excellent, well controlled light distribution, with a very sharp cutoff at the top. I have verified this with the 90 mm Hellas myself: the SAE/DOT low beams have a Z-shaped horizontal pattern, while the ECE (European) version has a V-shaped pattern; both have very sharp cutoff at the top of the beam. The Hella 90 mm high beam modules provide a well controlled, pencil-like high beam with a slight amount of light directed upwards (as required by SAE/DOT to illuminate road signs). I have no doubt that the 90 mm Hella modules are superior to the stock Fiero headlights in every respect but cost.
Hella has been making automotive headlights forever, and their quality is top notch. They are also expensive. The bodies of the 90 mm modules (where they get hot) are die-cast magnesium, and the lenses are glass (not plastic). The extended projector housing on the 90 mm low beam module (where it is cooler) is an injection-molded structural plastic.

Do you have any templates of the metal pieces? I thought about making this part out of aluminum and having my friend TiG weld them together. Did you consider using the original Fiero light bucket hinge as in another thread using Rx-7 replacement lights?

How about aiming them. Does your set-up allow you to adjust the aim - left right - up down -or is it done with beam independantly? Your pic from the rear (under the hood) didn't give me enough detail to see if each (low and high beam) could be aimed.
Looks much nicer than stock - and I bet you're getting about 2mpg better when you drive at night! =8^)
The mounting screws on the 90mm Hellas allow you to adjust the lights in any direction you need.
I sure hope to have them ready before Christmas. That would be real nice.
I am working on it as fast as I can. I can't stand over the guy with a shotgun to make him work faster........well then maybe I could! I might get them made faster in the metal shop of the Pen.

Actually the ones referred to on E-bay above are not two separate lamps in a single bucket but only a vinyl overlay on top of a square lens assembly that only gives the impression of two saparate lamps. Check out the seller's feedback.

That looks great! I've had a cardboard mock up for a similar mod on the workbench for a few months now, but was stuck on what type of lamps to use. You have just solved my problem for me! Thanks! They look so good it's a shame to close them!

Suufmeister has the smug little smile and Miss-Tress is slightly shocked!! Very funny I hadn't noticed it before but now you mention it ........
edit: swisscheese did you get my PM?
I don't know for certain, but to me, I read the genders the other way around. Suufmeister's ride has the sexy female with the bedroom eyes look, and Miss-Tress's car looks like an eager, but nervous guy asking her out. Maybe if things work out, there's a little Solstice in the future.

If someone manages to fabricate a bezel that is "almost" plug and play I'll buy one right now, even if it turns out to be a bit pricey. The fact that Fiero1Fan is on the case makes me hopeful that there will be such a product.
The biggest problem for me is that the lights has to be E-approved here in sweden, but that's another ballgame. Keep up the good work and maybe one day there's another awesome part from Fiero1Fan in The Mall.

I took the pix and measurements of "my" bezels and sent them to Fiero1Fan for reproduction - so they should come out somewhat like those.
The Hellas have an E-approval (same requirement here in Germany) so that should work even if I haven't tried to pass inspection with mine yet...

Sounds great... now I have something to look forward to and the e-approvement is not a problem anymore as long as I can buy them from another EU country.
