Im in the middle of installing a 3.1 in my Fiero and I'm not planning on running A/C. Im just wanting to see some of your functional roof scoops and how you designed them. I'm thinking about making one just to get some ventilation in the cab. It doesn't get too hot around here, but a roof scoop would make a worthy addition in my opinion. Anyway, let's see some scoops!
EDIT: I meant for this to be a roof scoop post, but I am interested in seeing hood scoops as well. Sorry for the typo.

Most people here add extractor style hood scoops which are for increasing airflow through the radiator and provide an exit for the air trapped under the hood at high speeds. I haven't seen one for cab ventilation on a Fiero so far...
I'm an idiot. I meant to put roof scoop lol. I've actually been planning on doing some sort of extractor scoop on the hood though. Thanks for the reply. Wow do I feel stupid, amazing what sleep deprivation does to people.

toadson, I am guessing you do not have a sunroof. They flip up or are removable. All Fieros were built with the roof section already designed for one. You could add one in or you could replace the roof section with another that already has one.

a friend of mine just cut out the center section of his roof where the factory sunroof would normally go and he attached some roof scoop he got off ebay. The only problem with his not-so-well thoughtout plan is that its constantly letting air into the cabin... as well as rain, snow, leaves, and bugs. He hasnt come up with like a vent or something to close off the air when he doesnt want it.

Thanks for all the replies. Yes my windows and vents work, but I thought a functional roof scoop might allow a little better ventilation without having to have both windows rolled all the way down. I dont really want a pop-up sunroof either, I just dont like the looks of them. I just wanted to see your ideas and whether or not you liked your roof scoop or not. Again, thanks for replying everyone!

there was one idea floating around. i don't remember anyone actually doing it, but if i were to try it, it's the way i'd do it.
you do need a sunroof though. you make a fiberglass copy of your sunroof glass and add hardware so you can put in in place of your stock sunroof glass.
then you make the roof scoop part of the fiberglass copy.
that way, if you don't work out a way of sealing it from bad weather, you just take it out and put the glass back in.

I never did get around to installing my roof scoop... it fell by the wayside before I got around to the current paint stage. FieroX (white car shown above) is the only "functional" roof scoop I've seen on a Fiero.
I'm not sure what kind of vents FieroX/Ryan used on his, but IIRC you had to block the scoop on his during inclement weather. I purchased a Subaru WRX Rally roof "vent" mechanism for mine... it's a pretty heavy duty vent that seals pretty hard when closed.
Mine's not completed yet (hot/humid weather sucks, and I just haven't felt "motivated" lately).
But yes, it is (or will be) fully functional. I purchased a roof vent (to go inside the scoop) off a WRX/WRC Rally Car (from Primitive Racing in Washington State).
Here's a pic or two to give you an idea of how it all works.
Here's the scoop I'm using (this is Jch 82's car - currently non-functional).
Here's the scoop positioned on my roof skin:
And the vent itself (guaranteed to seal):
And another of the scoop a little farther along: ...lots of projects in the works, but only a little time to work on them!
OK here we go 3 photos of two different hoods I have done that are just now in primer. Looks like they were made for a Fiero at just the right size and shape.

I've got about 8 good pics of my in progress hood scoops on 2 different hoods using 79 TA fender vents. Ok I finally got the PIP downloaded and figured it out but the pics need to be downsized as they are to big. Anyone got a clue how to do that?
Microsoft makes some "power toys" is what they are called. One of them is a resizer.

You guys have some nice looking scoops! What do most of you use for molding the scoops onto the hood? I've worked with fiberglass some, but I'm assuming you might need to use something a little more flexible.

You generally use a SMC-specific repair compound (frequently recognized as "Corvette Panel Repair/Adhesive").

Hey Minngreengt where did you get the wrx scoop insert? I have been looking for one but I can't seem to find one.
I bought mine from Primitive Racing in Washington State: http://www.get-primitive.com/ (click on "body" at the top & scroll down about 1/2 way... I believe he currently has an aluminum one listed for $89).

My hood scoop is still a work in progress. The idea is to direct all the air coming through the radiator out the hood. I also wanted the scoops to be similar in shape to the headlight openings.
