It's been awhile since I posted a formal request for information, so I thought I'd do so tonight, AND ask for something extra.
For the newbies, what I've been trying to do these last 4 years is to put together a database of information for the entire production run of 26,402 1988 Fieros. My goals are chiefly to get some basic info on every single 1988 Fiero. To catalogue this info, I have asked people who own an '88, or have seen one somewhere to send me the car's VIN, the factory exterior and interior colors (and wheel colors for GTs), the Tranny option, and the status of the car (Alive, Junkyard, Parted Out, etc). In addition to this basic info, I have started tracking the roof type for each car, so I also would like that info too. Of course, ANY info is gratefully accepted, and I'll be glad to get any info I can get. This is a car database, not an owners database, so if you'd like to submit a car's info without giving me any personal info, that is absolutely ok with me. I've added cars many times without any owner info, especially the ones I see in for-sale ads. I should note that, no matter what people send me about their cars, I am not going to distribute any personal info I may have about an owner. I wouldn't want to have to hire a lawyer somewhere down the line! I am content to document as much about these cars as I can, and limit my release of information from the database to a simple summary of the cars, their colors, and, where known, basic options. Now, I'd like to ask for some additional information. For some time now, I've toyed with the thought of adding another piece of information to the above list of items. Since the issue has been raised in other threads, I guess the time is right to start tracking the dates on the ALDL connectors.
The above image shows a sticker which was put on back at the factory (or where the harness was made, I'm not sure which). The date on this sticker may or may not correlate closely with the production date, but I'd like to find out. I don't expect everyone to run out to their cars and take off the center console to look for this sticker, but in the future, if you are in there for some reason, how about keeping an eye out for it (it frequently falls off and is laying loose, so it might not be there for alot of folks). I've collected dates from about 7 stickers in junkyard cars in the last two years, plus a few from friends, and from some recent submissions to this forum. With 3,459 cars in the database, if I get the ALDL dates for even a small percentage of these cars, it ought to tell me whether there's a correlation to the VIN and establish some kind of production schedule.
That's enough for one post, Thanks for Reading, and Thanks for any info on 1988 Fieros you can give me.

No, Formulas did not have the same options available as the GT's.
For example, black wheels were a specific part of the Formula package, whereas the GT's were available with either black or gold wheels.

You are Right about the Formula package coming with Black rims, LZ. However, I should have included Formula rims in my request, Razor, because I am always on the lookout for a color override or special-order car, and there might just be a Formula which has the Gold rims as a factory option. Although, I had heard that the Gold rims had to be installed at the dealer. In any case, for all the Formulas in the database, I only mark the rims as Black if I know that to be the case, so Please include the Formula rim colors!
Good job LZ and Razor.

Hello John, I think you are correct about the sticker collating with the production date. I was rebuilding my shifter just yesterday and noticed the date on mine was 10/26/87 and according to your database mine VIN is about a 1/4 of the way in production and if they started in the beginning of August that would be about right. Here is my info on my car to add to the database VIN 1G2PG1199JP210378 Black with Black wheels, and Gray interior, 5spd, plain roof, and very much alive with 47,000 miles

Hey Vader, That's great, you're the first to respond, and you gave me everything I need to add this car to the database. Thanks alot for helping out. Sounds like a nice car, it's a sister to my daily driver, same colors and options, but mine has 168500 on it, however, and doesn't look anywhere near as nice as yours. 8)
Thanks Again.

Thanks TM, I did see the Silver car info, but am not sure why I didn't respond to the post about it. My apologies, I guess I copied the info down and the post migrated out of my 2-day buffer. I didn't have your TTOP info though, so Thanks for that one as well. Ray Paulk of the TTOP registry sent me the basic info (which is what I asked for, colors, tranny, etc) but I didn't know where the car was, so with your permission, I'll mark it as "living" in your garage! That's a nice car, Thanks for the help.

Yup, she's alive and well. Better than she has been in years. Glad to help you out. I'm always on the lookout for Fieros, if I see any 88's you'll be the first to know. tm

John, Though you may not remember, we spoke at The Fiero Factory Swap Meet. I promised to provide you with some data from my cars, but couldn't remember how to get in touch with you. I'll be getting you the data on my four 88 Formula ASAP. Take care.

Hey Ron, I remember, you were there with the defunct yellow coupe hood. Good to hear from you. If you want, you can send me your info at JwWillhoff@aol.com or John.Willhoff@LMCO.com instead of posting here, whichever is easier for you.
Thanks for your help, looks like quite a fleet of '88s there!

I think you already have my VIN--1G2PG1195JP213410. My connector sticker says "Week of 11/02/87". It's a white GT with black wheels, 5 speed, factory sunroof, a/c, no spoiler. About 145,000 miles and very much alive. ------------------ Rod Schneider, Woodstock, Ga. White 88 GT

Purchased an '88 Yellow Coupe (T-Top), VIN #1G2PE11R2JP220773, which is probably already in your database.
Per your recent request, I wanted to pass along the ALDL connector tag, which we found floating around inside the console (as we were stripping the interior).
It reads: WEEK OF 03/28/88 OPER-SFT 7487- 1

Hey, Database guy, here's a new entry for yah. My 88 GT is #1G2PG119XJP218120. Red exterior, grey interior, black wheels, auto-trans, and has the sunroof option. The car is in near mint condition with just less than 29,000 miles on it. The original owner was my dad, but it is now titled in my name.

Good Work guys, there's a whole lot of good info here.
azfieroman, that is interesting about your Silver Formula with Gold rims. Can you do me a favor and check the RPO codes for "60P"? That is the factory RPO code, if your car has it then it's definately a rare(r) car. Not a whole lot of Silver Formulas out there in any case!
Ancaster, Thanks for the info on the car, can you tell me what kind of roof it has? Thanks!
Good Job as usual FIERO JOHN-WI, glad to have you on the constant prowl for VINs!
Thanks for the bumpity bump last night Furious!
Got the car, dcaprio, 'preciate your posting it and filling in the roof type. The last formula I have info on is car number 26355 out of the 26402 built in '88, although someone on Pennocks mentioned that #26400 or 26399 was the last Formula made...
Thanks Turbo, sounds like a nice car, thanks for adding it to the effort!
BigRed88, good deal, thanks for the ALDL info, we/re starting to get some interesting stuff here!
ED's85GT, thanks for the info, that's a new one for me!
Rodrv6, thanks for the update, I sent you an email with another question...
Rodmcneill, I'll update my record for that car, you gave me more info than I had before, Thanks!
qwikgta, sorry to make you last here, but thanks for the ALDL info, another good set of car info from you!
Thanks to All,
John

I just happened upon an 88 for sale on the side of the road yesterday so I stopped and got the lowdown for you.
88 Base Coupe 1G2PE11R8JP221040 2.5L Auto C&C T-tops White exterior Gray interior No power options 119K
This car is for sale, BTW. List price is $2550. The paint is in OK shape but the hood has three circular dings in it like someone hit it with a hammer. The Right side front marker light is broken. Otherwise it looked like it was in pretty good shape.

I never even noticed how earily mine is in the 88 line. Hoped I helped and glad to be included in this. John

Thanks DJRice, I saw that car either on ebay or autotrader, but I didn't get the full description until your post. Thanks for taking the time to check it out. A rare car, I wonder who's gonna pic it up and for how much.
Good Info Fiero67, Thanks for all the info on the car. Currently it takes honors for the earliest date on the ALDL connector! Which makes me wonder, if the date is tied to production of the cars, then how early did they start building them such that car number 4822 wasn't built until the week of Aug 17th? I know they built the last ones in the first week (or two?) of Aug '88, so it looks like they were making them from July/Aug '87 through the beginning of Aug '88.
Hey Muncie, thanks for posting those numbers. I used to try and call folks for VIN info, but long ago ran out of time in the day to do that. Maybe someone who's local will check them out and report back. I appreciate the assistance, both from you and everyone who's taken the time to send me all this info.
Thanks for the fun guys,

John, I've got a 1988 Pontiac full-lineup promo catalog here that has six pages devoted to the '88 Fieros (actually seven, with a standard / optional equipment list page in the back). Do you already have this catalog? It occurred to me that this sort of info might be helpful to you. I can scan the pages as image files and email them to you if you wish (or to anybody else here who'd like to look).

Sorry for the delay in responding jdrobb, I've been too busy to log on lately. I think I've seen what you're talking about a couple of times, but I don't have a hard copy. So, if you don't mind and it isn't too much trouble, I'd be happy to get this document. I think Dave Kauzlaurich (I know I mangled his name, sorry Dave) has had this item for sale at the annual Swap Meet at Ed Parks place, but I have never had the spare change at the time to buy a copy.
Thanks for thinking of me, I apologize again for the delay.
Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there!

I too would like this, would the offer still be available?
Just to clarify for everyone, I will share scanned images by email of the Fiero-related pages in this 1988 catalog. (Each page image ranges from 200 to 300 kilobytes each.) I *don't* have any other catalogs besides my own, though.
Right now, I'm currently in the middle of changing ISPs and getting new email addresses, but I will honor everyone's request when things are ready.
Would it be better to just post these page images in a new topic here, or do you think they're too big for that? That might be easier for everyone...

There were 10 Fieros there only one was a 88.

FieroGT87, Thanks alot, that's a new one, which would be lost to history forever if you hadn't sent me the info. At least now we know what happened to it and what it was. That makes something like 10 dead ones I've collected in the last week or so. With the live ones, right now we have info on 3,502 of the 26,402 made. 3,502 sure seems like alot, but there's still 22,900 to go!
