I would just go to the local pick and pull and get another govenor assembly and swap it in your transmission. It would be preferable if it came from a transmission with the same final drive, but if not you could carefully swap the weights/springs or swap the gears.

The gear seems to be really tight on there and looks to be a pain to change it. I counted the teeth and it has 12

EDIT: Would a 4t60E have the same gear setup or is it different. What other Moslem transmission would work? That's if I don't find a 4t60 to part out.

Wow! I'm sorry for telling you the trany was probably toast. Yeah that stripped gear will cause your problems. I don't think the 4t60e uses a gov? I have seen a few stripped gears in 700R4's with nothing else wrong, just replace the gear and all is well. Where to get it? Have you tried the dealer?

No I haven't tried a dealer yet. I want to see if a local junk yard has anything first before I pay for anything over priced. You think they would have a replacement gear for this being its plastic. GM has the worst name for doing stuff like this.

This could he true but I highly doubt it. Many things make me believe its a faulty gear. Remember this trans is a 1990 so the trans its self is over 20 years old, not only that but the gear is plastic. Also one look at my assembly you could see the amount of heavy rust on the weights and top gear thinger. Plus all the teeth on the gear are layer over. If it was faulty internal gears the gear would have chunks and or big gouges all over it.

Teeth of gear layer over instead of chunks or gouges
Rusted upper weights and gear
Many years of use
Many year on not used
And all in all a plastic gear from 1990 witch the car new would of been made in 1988 or 89 to be sold.
All this leads to a faulty gear not internals.

Well i wanted to thankyou all that have sent the time on helping me figure out my trans problem. it would shift into 1st and reverse only. no feel of upshit at all. i checked things as the TV cable and the vacuum that most people thought it was but here it was a cheap plastic gear that the speedo connects to called the speedometer governor assembly. the post i made was about 2 months ago and thats how long i spent on this issue trying to figure it out, it made it to a 3 page report of peeps trying to help me over this. THIS IS BROTHERHOOD! so now my trans should be like new with all the new stuff put into it. with the info i gave and guru found the issue this makes it one step further if anyone else has this issue.

Special thanks to Fieroguru for saying its the tv cable or the governor assembly. It felt nice to drive a real car again and to feel the power and sound of a V8 of a car that only has 200 miles on it
