I have two 88 sedans, neither have wings. I have a wing from an 86 Se that I had leftover from several fieros I had in the mid to lte 90.s. I have searched the forum and haven't found any info on mounting a wing on a lid that never had one. Even the relocation threads just mention moving it back an inch. I don't have a car available to compare so I could really use some measurements for the mounting bolt holes. SA pic or two would be nice, also.

Hi, Welcome to the Forum, whats throwing me off is you mention that you have 2 sedans, anyway do you want the measurements to mount like a GT or like the SE was originally mounted, what Fiero is this going on???

Thanx for the welcome.
I don't know why I said sedans. They are the basic 1988 4cyl/5spd coupes.
I would like some specs on the stock location, and maybe a relocation idea or two. I am going to look for pics of relocated ones today to get an idea of what what a set back one would look like.
I have had several Fieros, have not had one since 1997. All of my Fieros have been SE's and had wings. I like that look. I have never had a GT, so if I can still get my fat butt in these coupes, I may look at getting an 88 GT this spring, preferably yellow (I have an 70 Fiat spider, and a FORD Escape in yellow).
I have some parts in storage and some Fiero tools/manuals. Recently, I traded a computer for two 88 coupes, (haven't gotten the running one yet).
I am glad to see that the fiero community is not only still around, but seems to have grown since I sold my last one.
I have been to see Ed Parks lots of times and have gotten a couple of clutch jobs and some parts from him on many occasions. I live only 40 miles from the Fiero Factory, so I may go up this weekend and get some measurements from him, if no one else posts some measurements. I didn't think of that, until just this minute.
If I go, I'm afarid he may talk me into a 4.9 conversion. One of the coupes I have is in fantastic shape body/interior wise. But it is hard to get in second gear. The other one has some body/interior parts missing, but the engine/trans is low mileage.

Open the trunk and look at the bottom. They are dimpled where the studs go.

When I did mine it seemed like a pain till I realized that, then it was easy.

I still don't have the key to the lid of the one here at the house, but that's good to know.
I hope the running one will be brought down in a couple of weeks. (it's about 160 miles from here).
Thanx!

I mounted my wing on a decklid that had never had a wing and I just went back as far as I could before it fell off the back end. (about three inches) But I also raised it 3 inches and added two inch winglet extensions... so I don't know if these pics help or not.

Sort of but not really. Any further back and the forward bolts are under the decklid seal, but as it is there is room. The rear bolt are outside the sealing surface but there is room for them.

I did this on my wingless 86se. After you get the wing installed youll have to deal with the torsion springs that hold up the hood.
The extra weight of wing will be too much for the stock springs or at least maybe you change the pin location at the hinge to give them more tension otherwise your trunk lid wont stay up. Read this read and others https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Archives/Archive-000001/HTML/20000503-2-001072.html

I have two new gas struts for an Escape back glass that I bet would work to hold the lid up. They're not as strong as the back lid struts on the Escape.
We'll see if I ever get the car here. Hopefully next weekend.
The coupe I am going to put it on is white. The wing I have is black with a good finish still on it. You guys think the black wing would look right on the car, or should I paint it white?

I have a gas strut on mine. With the wing moved back, and the winglets, even the stronger winged torsion spring probably wouldn't be enough.

I added a wing to my 88 coupe but also built custom stands which added more weight yet. If its not windy out I can get the lid to stay up with the stock springs. I have a set of gas struts in the works to solve the falling lid issue.
I set the wing on the lid before mounting and kept moving it and veiwing from different angles till I was completly satisfied with the location...... its all personal prefference.
Heres a few pics(wing is fadded red in pics but is now color matched)

That looks awesome! Probably pretty easy to steal though.

The are all easy to steal. My 86 SE has a aftermarket wing because the original had been ripped off. You can see the damage created by who ever ripped the original off.

Yeah, you have to be careful. Before I got my gas struts a gust of wind slammed the trunk on my son's hand. Luckily his hand wasn't hurt bad, but it could have been worse.

Steven Snyder- If someone tried to steal it they wouldnt get away with the whole thing unless they pried it off the lid. The wing would rip right off like any of them but the stands would still be there unless they spent the time to dissasemble them but theyed still need to pry off the bases because theres 4 bolts in each.
jscott1- I've seen stars a few times because of that thing catching me off guard
I think this pic shows how they are bolted to the lid

Thanks for the compliments
