i have a 84 coupe and i have just purchased a wing for it? first question is-i have looked under my trunk lid and there are four round covers that look like they come off and this is were the bolts for the wing would come through! is this true or am i dreaming?
second question is-when i install this new wing this will add more wait to my deck lid and i have heard about different trunk supports for diffent fieros-factory gts had different supports for keeping the wing up than the coupes did-is this true? also has anyone installed the hood struts yet like is on the camaros hood? and does anyone sell a aftermarket kit or do i have to make my own? any help would be appreciated?
thanks

for decklid support, check out Rodney Dickman's page at: http://www.execpc.com/~rodney1/ When I get a spoiler for my Fiero I plan on getting the strut kit from him. I may just get them before I get my spoiler, since my deck hardly stays up now.

Hey sloponti I have the factory decklid springs for use with the wing. $35

Hey kornholio. If you decklid wont stay up now just adjust the springs to the next stiffer hole.

My deck used to be like that. I would be working on it and a gust of wind would come along... thwap! I would get smacked on the head. Gave my friends a good laugh... I had the luggage rack on there, and I took it off. Now it'll steal the keys sometimes 'cause it pops up so fast.

How do you adjust the decklid springs? Is it a 2 person job?

To adjust the springs there is a pin and three sets of holes under the decklid hinges. the pin acts as a stop for the spring. You open the lid, reach under the spring and pull the loop of the spring back. the pin will be loose. Move it to a farther back hole.

No the adjustment wont allow for the weight of the wing. You need the heavy springs.

My '87 GT has an alarm in it, with one button on the remote wired to open the trunk. Since the spoiler was stolen before I got the car, the springs are still set high. So when I hit the button, out of nowhere the trunk FLYS open. I scare the neighborhood kids like that when they get too close to it.

I've also got an alarm that pops the trunk, but when I push the button, the trunk only pops up about 1/2". I guess when I get a spoiler, it won't even pop at all unless I get heavier springs.

i have a alarm on my car to and my trunk only pops up a half an inch to! i went to advanced auto parts yesterday and bought one hood support and i am going to make my own instead of buying that rodney guys for a 100.00-no way! i only spent 12.00 for a hood strut and i plan on putting two one but only one for right now! this should be really simple to do-just a slight braket modification and some bolts and nylon washers! i will let you guys know how it goes!

SloPonti -

If you look at Rodney's page, he has enought pix to give you good ideas as to what and where addl. supports (brackets) are needed. There's a plentiful array of struts at auto parts stores now, that one could do their own. Good luck!!

i did it! and it works great!
i only put one on for now and i might add two just for looks but the one works great! it only took me about an hour to make-that includes making the braket edges round and painting and primering the braket! now when i push my remote for my trunk the trunk goes straight up with no problem! this is a great mod for only 12.00! sure beats spending 56.00 for one and 100.00 for two! if anyone else wants to do this i can give additional information to you!
cool!!!!

SloPonti,
I'd like some more info! Struts add to the raising power of the decklid? I thought that they only keep the decklid from dropping.

Thanks.

I'll take the info too...

deceler8@yahoo.com

I've tried moving the torsion bars to a stiffer setting, but I'm not able to move them and put the pin in the hole at the same time. The gas strut would be cool, especially for $12.

Great work. But I dont like the look of an extra gas strut sticking up when all I need to do is swap out the spring rods.

i have mounted the strut and it looks great! i think it looks better than rodneys does! the bad news is that the trunk is hard to pull back down! and when the trunk is down the trunk is slightly out of wack because the pressure of the strut is to much! i need the same strut but with a little less pressure! i have been to several parts stores and cannot find a lower pressure strut! does anyone know how rodney gets diferent pressure struts or how to make the strut that i have now a lesser pressure? if i can figure this out then i have something great here!!!! the mounting brackets and all the bolts are black and blend right in with everything and not noticable at all-it actually looks factory! so if anyone can help me then i can help you guys!
thanks
