man, this kid is nuts to try this in illinois.
hondas can be slaughtered with just 120mph.
aerodynamics are sooo crucial. Although I used to go 140 in my 280ZX in California, I sure as hell wouldn't do it here in Iowa/Illinois.
These midwestern roads suck, and I get spooked breaking 100 on them, whereas the roads back home allowed for much, much higher speeds.

I'd love to have an 8000 rpm motor in my Fiero, though. Like maybe a Saturn 1.9 with cams, headers and an intake + tune.

I don't even know where to start with this. Don't get me wrong I love my fiero (aero mods to improve high speed stability, 3.8 built supercharged moter and brakes to run with it). But 200 in a fiero. Without a total rebuild of the platform, not going to be done.

I have actually been blessed with the oppertunity to own a Lamb. True it was an older one (5000 QV, also known as a Countache) and it wasn't even remotely close to being stable at its top speed. And yes, it was far better designed for that kinda speed than a fiero was.

All I have to say is good luck and God speed to you.

I guess maybe I am just getting old, but I wouldn't ever run a fiero over 175 (and I have came mighty close to that mark with my little project car). But 200, no way. Atleast not on my life.

Why did this get bumped? This kid is a dreamer, as well as his exagerations on his 2.8 fiero.

Does anyone here trust the stock wheel bearings at 120mph for extended amounts of time? Let alone 200mph? How about the 600 hp needed to overcome the fiero's not so great aerodynamics? A trani to handle it? Replacing everything that is rubber in the drivetrain with something substancually stiffer. Eliminating the massive low pressure area behind the rear glass. Upgraded brakes. Solving front end lift. The list goes on and on.

The new Z06 is capable of 190mph with an LS7 making over 500hp. It was built for going fast, not commuting to work....

Moral of the story, if you want a fast car, buy one that was designed to go fast. Corvette, Stealth TT, 300ZX TT, etc etc. Much better platforms for a stable high speed car.

For those of you who are treading into the danger zone in your four wheel F-15s make sure you at least have "V" rated tires designed to maintain speeds up to 149 MPH, many are not aware of the speed ratings on the tires as well as the role they play in stability at higher speeds. I recall seeing mention of some inability to shift the manual transmission above 7000 rpm without some difficulty with synchros performing properly is that so? I passed a motorcycle earlier this week on the interstate in two pieces and that reinforced my contentness with quick 0-60 times and the ability to make the tires smoke.

Pioneer safely, and find out what the local laws will put you up against if you are caught traveling at those speeds, you might be surprised as well as more conservative provided you find out before hand rather than after. If a cop pulls out behind you and wrecks his vehicle and is injured or dies in the process you can be charged with causing it. A cyclist was just convicted for that (death of a highway patrolman in pursuit) here in Florida about a month ago, I'm almost certain he had no idea he could face charges like that before the tire failed on the camaro the officer was driving and hurtled him to his death. It's an awful sentence for what might otherwise be a law abiding citizen having a little fun. Think about it.

a lamborghini murcielago can do 200+ with 571 crank HP, and it weighs 4000+ lbs.

Weight is not factored into the top speed equation. It just means it will take longer to get there. You could argue that the heavier car will see more friction between the tires' contact patches and the road surface but that is negligible and easily overcome by an air pressure increase.

Anyway, like everyone has already pointed out, the Fiero will probably undress itself once it gets past ~170...
