"X is offensive, and similar attitudes have resulted in a dramatic rise in violence against X"

Here's the problem I see.

Similar attitudes...so attitudes should be adjusted, is that similar to thought crimes? Dramatic...judged by whom?

Should we dumb down freedom of speech to the lowest brainpowered denominator in order to protect "us" from "ourselves"?

I think that when theBDub used the phrase "similar attitudes" he was aiming for "similar euphemisms." The "Kung Flu" would be an attitude if it were just a thought in people's minds. When people say it or type it, it becomes a euphemism.

I don't think that theBDub is concerned about thought crimes.

Of course, if people didn't have dumb thoughts like "Kung Flu" they wouldn't express dumb euphemisms like "Kung Flu."

Leftists, always trying to control other people's speech.

Now, despite your attempt to completely derail this thread into another of your pointless racist rabbit holes, we can get back to orthopedics.

I didn't think you would, Randy. You've made your position on that abundantly clear. I also didn't ask for you or Cliff to curb your speech. What I did was say it was offensive. You can do with that information what you will. I am not going to come control your speech, and the beauty of this forum is you can't control mine.

Offensive ? How ? To who ? Why ?

Is the term Kung Fu offensive ? Kung Flu is an apt description of this virus. Why is no one offended by the South American variant, or any other variants from other areas named after those areas.

You may or may not care, but the terms "Wuhan Virus" and "China Virus" are also said to be offensive. Technically, we can not even call it Covid, as Covid already existed before this Kung Flu variant.

Resulted in a dramatic rise in violence against Asian Americans ? Do you like every picture that is painted for you, believe everything you hear ? I don't buy it. Do you think I have more aspersions against Asians, American or not, because of this virus ? Do you know who does have more aspersions against the Asian POC ? Other POC.

My next door neighbor, a Fillipino, uses the term Kung Flu. Would you have me call the virus the oriental virus

Offensive to me, and my Asian American wife. She has been told by multiple people while out and about that she is spreading COVID-19... because uninformed, racist people look at her and assume she is Chinese and therefore she carries the virus. She's not Chinese, if she were it wouldn't matter, and neither of us have had COVID-19.

Nobody calls the South American variant by a name that has nothing to do with the virus. They call it the South American variant or by its scientific name. They call the Brazil variant the Brazil variant or scientific name. They call the British variant the UK variant or scientific name. Most people don't call COVID-19 "Kung flu," but you decided to.

Violence against Asian Americans is rising. Just because you aren't exposed to it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

I told you your joke was offensive, because it is to me. I'm not going to come after you for it. It's your call to either listen to my feedback and accept that I find it offensive, or decide that my opinion isn't valuable to you and you will continue.

It's not a crime to be offensive. But your question of if attitudes should be adjusted... Yes. Nobody is going to crawl into your brain and force you to change your attitude, but if you're being a racist then I'd say you could use a bit more empathy.

I am allowed to be offended by seeing the similarities between Cliff's usage of "Kung Flu" and other language used by those who are perpetuating these attacks.

Eeh ? What ?

Based upon you wife's look she was told that she was spreading Covid-19, or the Kung Flu ? Do you think I am uninformed and racist ? Is your wife a dumbazz and are you ? I don't listen to uninformed, racist, dumbazzes. Why would she ?

A rose by any other name is still a rose.

Congrats, I did not know that you married. I mean no offense.

Yeah, I've been referred to by several "distinguishing" names the last forty years or so.

I grew thicker skin. Not much I could do about it so, I simply considered the source and moved on.
I really hate being called Rose.

From the way theBDub describes it, she cannot help but hear it, when she is out and about. Unless she were to wear earplugs.

But that's just how I'm reading it. Perhaps theBDub himself will return to transform this grainy black and white image of what it's like into a "like you were in the scene yourself" kind of experience for us.

Stop being offensive by calling them "racist". That's totally hypocritical.

You better go ahead and get used to odd comments since you married outside your race.
