On the guages of the cavalier C1 is on the left side and C2 is on the right (when sitting in the car)

Cavlier for the most part you dont need to know the cavliers wire colors becuase just mainly just need the conecters and not the wires

Pix

Poke in like this to push in the tab to remove the wires you should hear a click

#1 to #9 will be on the top of C2 when your done (see how there numberd) (it becomes C2 with the Cavalier dash)

C1 of the fiero Conecter only cut what you need of this (if you ever want a H.U.D you will need to plug in a speedo board in this) this will not be called any thing after you install the cavlier dash (C1 and C2 of the cavlier are both on the back of the cluster) This is only C1 with the fiero cluster in. It is not used as a whole when the Cavalier dash is in

Guage pod trimed so it fits in the fiero pod

Trim off the back scew thing

Glue the Cavalier plastic thiggeys to the guage cluster (like the SES and brake things)

Good thread! I've got one of these laying around that I would like to try but I am just not that good with wiring. This will definitely help. I've got a Beretta digital that I like even better but I can't find a pin out on it...

Wow! Thanks a lot! Now if I can figure it all out! haha. But at least I have a place to start now. I even bought a Beretta book once but it only told about the regular guages.

Anyway you can post a pic of that Beretta dash? I don't know that I've ever seen one.

I don't really have any pictures of one lit up. Here is one I found on the internet.

It's a pretty neat looking setup. I also got the trip computer controls and the exterior temp sensor so those sections will work.

If you could that would be great because those dashboards are no where to be found where im located... as a matter a fact the 87 z24's are no where to be found anywhere in southern ontario and these 2 pieces are holding up the entire dash swap Let me know how it turns out!

Ok i just noticed that the Fiero C3 Conecter is the same as the one used on the Cavalier dash
So if you have a parts car that should work

Pic from a unmodded fiero

Yes the fiero C3 Conecter will work for both the C1/C2 of the Digital Dash so for ppl with out conecters you will only need to find a fiero parts car and get the C3 conecter (see pic right above this post) More info to fallow

I dont know why i didnt notice this before
I just rewired it all back on the fiero connector (the fiero coneecter uses snaps to hold it to the guage pod vs the cavaliers

Pix of the pins that you have to push up for the wires to slide out (you will need to push them back down when you put them back in so they dont come out)

Hmm ok that would be an easy solution if it works... do you know if they fit physically fit into the cavalier gauge pods and do all the contacts line up properly? Let me know if you could!

Thanks IG88, you've been extremely helpful!

Boy, I sure wish I knew what the heck the first post was trying to say

Colors Don't Matter on this side ------------------------------------These Colors Matter

C1-1 Ign Power Pnk / Blk -------------------------------------------C2-9 Ign power Pnk/Blk

Does this mean that the C1-1 CAVALIER connector (cavalier wire = Pnk/Blk) is supposed to get the Fiero Ign Power Pnk/Blk wire from FIERO C2-9 connector ? and so on ?

Ok what you will need to do for that is

Ok so you will want to move the wire from the fieros conecter C2-9 to the Cavailers conecter C1-1

Most of the wires will just need to be moved from the fieros conecters C2 and C3 (and some C1) to the cavaliers C1 and C2

Thank You { I wasn't as confused as I thought }

P.S. Does anyone know of a speedometer shop that will bench test and re-set the mileage on this cavalier digital dash ? The place around here wants $200 and they'll probably add another 8.5% tax . Seems that not just anybody can work on a digital dash ...

By the way, Here's a thread form the Technical archives:

//www.fiero.nl/forum/Archives/Archive-000001/HTML/20050818-2-062963.html

About 1/2 way down, Mickey Moose has some interesting things to say about why the cavalier dashes go bad and how to fix them.

IG: Your thread here is gonna be THE thread for the Cavalier digital dash install .

Org Post by Mickey_Moose I tested mine for working LED by useing a car jumper pack so fas the only thing that is off is the tach

ground: C1/9, C2/1, C2/2
+12v: C1/1, C1/8, C1/18, C2/3, C2/4, C5/15

To actually test the gauges you will need a bit more: some pots to simulate the sensors for oil. Temp. etc and a square wave generator to supply the tach and speedo signals. If it passes the start up test, there is no real need to go any further.

The only main problem with these displays is a weak power supply. These can be rebuilt with not too much effort with some parts from a local electronics store (or you can buy a new power supply module on eBay – cheaper to do it yourself if you can).

The tach can probably be calibrated fairly easy. I do not have a dash on me right now, so I can't really give you specifics. But if you look at the tach board, look for the calibration resistor and follow the same directions as for changing the Fiero tach. Of course, it's a fair bit toughter if there is no calibration resistor (should be since the tach is analog on these displays - a bit more complicated on the digital tachs).

Well, you guys got the deals. i paid $99 for mine and got probably the last new GM temp sender available (my dealer did a nationwide search and I bought it from a dealership in Pittsburgh).

i have only the temp. sensor, no pigtail . Can you tell me where each of the wires on the sensor get connected ?

Mine looks nothing like that
its more of a probe in a plastic box that is open on 2 sides.
But the plug is the same

Here's the one I got from the dealer:

This pic is a little fuzzy, but there are (2) contacts in the oval end.

Seems like (1) of the contacts needs to connect to the digital dash and the other either has to go to power or ground (?)

It looks like your harness would plug into my sensor - where do the wires from your harness / sensor go ?

Paul. Yours looks just like mine did, except my case was broken and fell apart when I touched it

Oh well ill just build a small plastic box for around the sensor.
I believe 1 wire goes to ignition power(pink and black) and the other goes to the dash

One of the wires goes here
C2-8 Outside Temp Tan ----------------------- You need to add a wire that goes to the outside temp

I think the other one is a ground (but mine is not working right so i am not 100X sure)

hmmmm .... do you think it would matter whcih wire went to which ?

IG; if you hold your harness plug with the clip On Top and look directly into it at the 2 contact pins, can you tell which wire is to the left and which is to the right ?

Use a continuity tester, put one probe on a body bolt and touch the other probe to each of the pins and see if one of them gives you a "ground" signal

Sure sounds like it . When you power up your dash, can you measure 12+ from the harness side of it ?

I'm thinking that the dash might send 12+ to the temp sender on that wire and get the signal back from the sender on the other.
