Well I caught a spy pic of the turbo project PBJ is up to. Being that my car is the guinea pig, I have to keep a close eye on this one

All I'm allowed to comment on is: 5psi boost, knock sensor, water injected when under boost and a new Rockcrawl prom. Oh and a rebuilt 4t60 with a shift kit. I'm told that I might need wheelie bars

Pete has way too much time on his hands. Becky, when you gonna give Pete time to buy and build up his own Fiero?

Spin them tires for Jesus!

Keep me posted on how that goes... and get him to give us intimate details of how it's set up. I was thinking about doing something similar after i'm out of college and have cash

That is my actual engine believe-it-or-not! Looks kinda dirty and lonely without the rest of the car to make it look good.

Well, I now call my engine the "Frankenstein". It's had all sorts of weird plumbing done to it. Soon, it won't be recognizable. . .Pete's not releasing any details until he's done the prototype and the car has it's first official test drive. But trust me, there will be pics when I can get 'em

Pete usually sells his cars whenever he wants money fast - having owned over 40 in the 9 years we've been married. Besides, we don't have any more room in the driveway with three cars and a boat. So I let him tinker with my car when he has a technical brainstorm (which usually happens after the boat is put away for the winter ).

Here is the tranny all torn apart being rebuilt with new seals and a shift kit. The gears ratios are 3.33 final drive with 35/35 sprockets.

Hmpf...

I'm guessing that the next video that we see will be you dragging two Fieros, with locked wheels, up the driveway.

Good show!

Got a new digital camera so I was able to get some more spy pics of my turbo-to-be. I haven't had a chance to adjust the setting on the camera but here they are:

Caught PBJ while he was working - and it's not my car! I guess you don't make money working on your own car

Looks like a neat setup but if the stock 9:1 pistons are used then modest boost levels are adviseable.
Turbocharging the 4.9L is going into unknown territory. I don't believe that anyone on this forum knows how this engine will respond to boost. No doubt that it will produce more horsepower and faster acceleration so the question of whether or not this engine design is durable enough to provide long term reliability under boost will be answered shortly. Don't know of anyone who has programmed the Caddy ECM to work with a 2 BAR MAP and a turbo. I'm not certain that it can be done The Chevy 747 or 749 ECM might be a good choice.

Dennis glad to see your advice but I have a 4.5 and a 4.9 that I have been working withover the last 8 months with very respectable durability after a lot of punishment. The 4.5 I am using a turbo from a 86 300ZX Nissan at 8lbs of boost and with out a problem all I did was to change the head gasket and replace the head bolts with ARP brands and torqued them at 10lbs more than stock I am using a Holley 500 cfm 2 barrel carb with the turbo going into a carb and so far it has stood up to my abuse. Many people consider the 4.5 and 4.9 engines as a softie but if properly modified you can have a strong running 2800 pound plastic car.

The car has never run with the Caddy ecm. It currently uses the 730 but PBJ and Rockcrawl together have rewired and promed it for a 749. Don't worry, there has been hours of thought put into this. But yes, the question is HOW WILL IT PERFORM. This is the unknown - but that's what makes this so much fun! ! !

That looks AWESOME

One day we'll have to get the Ontario 4.9's together somewhere at some point and compare random things

I'm sure yours will take the cake in all fields.

VERY NICE and that shift kit will be very useful with a 5psi boost on your 4.9L

Great work...give my best to Pete.

Say goodbye to easy oil filter changes, eh? And you still gotta squeeze a downpipe in there! I can't wait to get that thing on the Dyno for tuning, and again in may for some HP runs.

Well to be honest, it just got put in tonight. I'm actually posting this from the computer at his work (where his is still working on it). There is still a long way to go: rewiring the ecm into the car, coolant plumbing, exhaust, water injection system. . .the easy part is over. Getting it to run properly is the harder part. . .I mean the fun part

FUN!? Just you wait. I remember how squeamish you were the first time that thing got held wide open on a dyno. You could barely watch without crying. I'll be doing that several times over! Wow, you're right, this is going to be fun!
