Is anyone else getting this from PFF? It happens on about 1/4th of the threads that I click on I get redirected to a fake software update site that wants me to download what is likely to be malware.
I browse a lot of other sites and don't get it from anywhere else. I suspect is has something to do with the ads. One in the rotation is a likely suspect.
yes, I have been getting it for the last couple of days, will do it a couple times and then all works fine again. just thought it was something my son had downloaded and was going to look into this week, glad to hear it just not my computer.

X 2 A couple of months ago, after I tried an online TV download, I was getting redirects and pop ups. Each one had a close hyper-link, an "accept more information" hyper-link (opening a new window I would guess, and an info hyper-link (which I believe if I am not mistaken) which allowed me to tailor what types ads I would receive. The info hyper-link allowed me to identify the program downloaded which caused the redirects and pop ups. I then found the program via my control panel and uninstalled it.
Getting a lot of this, the last few days. I have a Mac with Mac OS X and it keeps happening in the Safari Internet browser. I am not sure it only happens when I am focused on the PFF window (I always have several windows open at the same time). Maybe. I guess I should start keeping a log of when it happens and which window.
3rd party scripts pushing this... I see scripts from viglink.com, facebook.com, googlesyndication.com on most PFF pages. VigLink and googlesyndication (google adsense) are ad farms. NoScript AdBlock and others should stop whatever.
NoScipt needs pff.nl scripts to run to login. you can turn off others to find the problem.
ETA---> I don't have problem Cliff trying to make money but he should warn people when re-direct links are used to prevent people thinking PFF is pushing Malware.

I have IE as part of Windows, but don't use it. I browse with Firefox and am running AD Block Plus so I can tailor what pops up on any website or even on a page within that site. No redirects except in my favorites, for the past week or so whenever I clicked on The Fiero Store, it opened up Rodney Dickman's site. Wonder if it was trying to tell me something. I couldn't delete from my Favorites list. The only way I could get TFS was to go to Google Search and grab it.
For some time now, I've been getting a pop-up that says I need to download an app at the bottom of the Forum page where PM Inbox is located, whenever I receive a new PM. It says something to the effect that I need to download the application in order to see my pm's. I sent Cliff an inquiry about it but never got a response. I just click on INBOX and bypass the download.

I believeCliff addressed this once before here in OT. Those having problems need to contact Cliff and let him know if you think it is something caused by PFF only---he has no way of knowing about a problem unless someone notifies him via email or PM!!

I haven't seen the redirect for updates. But often those "updates" are fakes that are loaded with riskware, and might be viruses themselves.
What is it that wants to update?
I get the pop-up once in a while using Chrome. It says that Chrome needs to be updated. When you close the page another pop-up asks if you are sure you want to leave the page.

It was the same with me. I selected Y to leave the page, then updated Firefox through the Mozilla web.

it seems to be semi-legit in that it senses the browser version and tells you that it needs to be updated. Chrome is now version 40.0.2214.94. Mine was ....93 when I got the notice.
I'm still suspicious of a vendor who wants to install unsolicited software on the computer to help me out.
I've gotten it but the way it was presented made me think twice so I didn't. I had never gotten an update request that looked like that. Luckily I chose wisely without knowing it.
I'm on my Linux box at home. Been surfing the forum but not getting any redirects. I was hoping to get one so I could follow it and see what would happen.
I love Linux, it's like a fireproof suit. You can do almost anything on line and get away with it. It scoffs at viruses..... Hah! it says...
I just got one of these earlier today. I'm out of town at a hotel using their free Wi-Fi and assumed it was related to that. I just closed everything out and did a quick scan to be safe. I never open up links like that, so I don't think I'll have any problems. It's good to know (sort of ) that it isn't necessarily from the hotel Wi-Fi.
Redirects aren't all that uncommon across the web, but I find it strange that so many here seem to be having them all at once. Is everyone posting in this thread with the problem, having them while viewing ONLY PFF or having them from a variety of websites?
For me, the update in the PM box is the only thing associated with PFF, other than a lot of the banners at the top of the page are directly related to things in my searches or in my emails. For example, last week I had been looking at Generac whole house generators and we also talked about them briefly in OT. The banners displayed at the top of the page not only showed the Generac model I was looking at, but also some of the other brands that I considered, along with a portable unit from Harbor Freight.
The only true redirect I have gotten recently, without clicking on anything to cause the redirect, was as I mentioned, my bookmark for The Fiero Store would open up on Rodney Dickman's site, even though I also have a Rodney Dickman bookmark listed about 4 or 5 items below it.
Edit: When I posted this, lo and behold, just below was images with embedded links to generators.

I want to say that it's looking for an updated version of Flash. Ore some similar add-on. When you get a new PM notification, it plays a sort of "chime" sound. Apparently that sound requires that plug in.
Just got a PM so I could see what it said. There's what looks like a gray index card in the INBOX panel that says A plug-in is needed to display the content. I just click on INBOX like I always have and look at the content anyway.

You just PM yourself and don't open it.
PM inbox sound isn't Redirect problem. HMTL code for Inbox Sound is (Depending Browser and Version.): <BGSOUND src="http://www.fiero.nl/forum/sounds/notify_mono.wav"> <embed hidden="true" src="http://www.fiero.nl/forum/sounds/notify_mono.wav" autostart="True" Volume="100%"></embed> (http://www so pff doesn't link the file.)
Again, Redirect is likely caused by VigLink ad farm on index and thread pages. Many Redirect on PFF could be cause by blocking all 3rd party cookies or blocked VigLink.com cookies. Blocking 3rd party scripts can stop running VigLink scripts causing the redirects.
Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier, but I broke my hand about a week ago and haven't spend much time behind the keyboard.
I have no idea what could be causing these redirects. There's nothing in any of the ad code that should be doing that. The only three third party scripts running on the page is for Facebook (the like button), Google (the ads) and Viglink (monetizes external links for me). None of them alter internal links. I just did some extensive testing in IE and didn't get a single redirect. The fact it only seems to happen in IE makes me believe it isn't coming from PFF or all browsers would be affected.
Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier, but I broke my hand fighting pirate zombie ninjas about a week ago and haven't spend much time behind the keyboard.
I have no idea (key)what could be(logger) causing these (software) redirects.
It magically went away after you finished off those pirate zombie ninjas. You didn't need to install that keylogging software, we all use the same password for our bank sites as we do here ("1luvf13r05") but now that's its been installed, I kinda like it, it makes me feel like someone actually cares what I'm typing...
