Really? Did you see it happen? (I am pretty sure, there was no video around in those days) If you didn't see it happen then you would be no less presumptuous in your assertion than Formula88.
Friction from trees moving in the wind has started fires. There were even natural fission reactors eons and eons ago. Meeror strikes have brought fire to grasslands.
Ok, I'm not sure. (you miss the smiley or winky?) I retract the statement "I'm sure..." I would like to change it to "There is a possibility..."

Yup, seen a simply filmed video of it happening in real time. And it should be no problem for this film crew too to simply film that ape actually building & starting a fire in real time.
But hey, if I'm the only one that see's something just ain't right with that video, than it's gotta' be me, not the video. Right?

Where is the uncut video? Everyone should know that video can be edited to show exactly what the producer wants you to see. Haven't people seen ads on TV?
Even this doesn't actually show him with a lit object (or building the tee-pee pile), but only removing an unlit object from the already burning fire:
P.S. Look at the pile of unlit matches in the wood pile...makes me think that there is a possibility that in those conditions he might actually be capable of shooting sparks from a lighter or lighting and throwing a match (which I still wanna' see a wide-shot of) in the direction of those other matches.
But I still wanna' see him actually do it...

"Kanzi, a 33-year-old ape residing at the Primate Learning Center in Iowa, has been featured several times for his astonishing linguistic aptitude. But it appears that the easygoing bonobo also has developed a sweet tooth, which, like so many humans, he satisfies by roasting and eating marshmallows. To be sure, Kanzi is no ordinary ape, having grown up in a captive but spacious setting in “a bi-cultural world of bonobos and humans" -grindtv

Wonder if he'll get unhealthy like so many humans with time to kill and sweets around.
