Ive thought about making a speeduino work on my fiero, I even bought one and had most of the board soldered together.. In theory it shouldnt be that hard to do because all the speeduino guys use all the same gm sensors.
I bought an lq1 before finishing tho so i have another abandoned project
I started with a 1227730 and a set of batchfire coils. It ran well but did not produce the power I expected. I have an autoprom chip writer from Moates but still could not get good results. I bought an Emtron sl6 and built a new harness and used Bosch sensors and finally got the results I hoped for. Adrian Norton from Emton remote tuned it on a dyno dynamics dyno. Now I really wish I had not played around with all the other junk. anybody wants some Moates gear and a couple of 1227730 ecus just pay for the shipping and its yours.

A programmable ECU is simply a means to run an engine with a certain AFR and ignition timing.
How can one ECU make more power than another ECU, if AFR and timing are the same?
Sorry I did not explain myself very well. I found the Emtron gave me more options, most importantly I am able to use 2 lambda o2 sensors for very accurate air/fuel ratio sensing . Iam also running 2 knock sensors ,fuel pressure and fuel temp. Air intake temp and air pressure sensors before and after the 56 mm Bosch throttle body. I machined and installed a crank trigger wheel and used an LS crank trigger.. I took the old distributor and machined a wheel for it and built a cam sensor out of it. As for throttle pedal I modified a Nissan 370zx pedal to fit .Definitely it has been a lot of work but it was fun and I learned lot about tuning. the car is 85 gt and has full suspension package that the Fiero store used to offer .My 2.8is Bored and stroked to 3.208 liters and is balanced , Diamond 10.5/1 forged pistons , scat rods and new 3.1 crank. Crower 03050 cam , stainless valves, performance springs and roller tip rockers. Headers and Ocelot stainless exhaust. Champion 3 core aluminum rad with ac delete. 235/17 Yokohama tires on RTX rims. I have had the car for 29 years .
I did not dyno the GM 1227730 but I did dyno the Emtron.146 hp at 242 kms /hour and 266 ft lbs at 118 kms / hour at the wheels . It is a lot more responsive on the road. No it does not make sense the amount I have invested except here in Canada I get to keep my collectors plates and I get very cheep insurance with my plates ($200 US per year) because its a numbers matching engine ..Normal insurance would cost 1200 US up here. Besides it's been a fun project and now I know every inch of my car. my tuner says that if I want to change from premium pump to race fuel we could gain quite a bit more power but I want to keep it as a street car.
Now I understand more why you chose this engine and this amount of money for reach more HP. Here in Quebec I can do a swap and the insurance is still low do you try Hagerty insurance My insurance send me a evaluator from this company every 4 years and he fix the price for my insurance And they know I have a engine swap I have a normal licence plate I can go every where with my fiero for $280CA/year Enjoy your fiero
Claude thanks for your response. here in BC we don't have private insurance. The Provence has a monopoly on insurance with their own insurance corporation. We have no choice but to buy insurance from them.
definitely nice numbers. Does it drive nice on the street or is it more for track use ? Who did your cam and heads ?
Thank you Sleek!
It is a street legal track car, so I drive it around to local car shows. I modeled the cam profile for it but since I had no way to tune the ECM I had to compromise. Now I have full control of the tuning and it's not a problem anymore. The heads were done by an old friend that used to work for Ford on the Ford GT40 that went to lemans in the 60's.
thats cool . We have a great track here ( Area 27 ) that I would like to take mine to and do some testing but its like $600 per day and its just out of my reach so it's just for the street for now.
