So my 84 se started wanting to die only at idle. I am not very mechanicly inclined so im glad to have this source to help me out. So if anyone could reach out and help me, that would be great.

Thanks,

Welcome to the forum. With your car approaching 40 yrs of age you are going to need to invest in some tools and be willing to learn. There are a lot of things that can go wrong with our cars and you will need to supply more information to help people help you. For instance, how many miles are on the car? Does it want to stall when the engine is cold (just started) or warmed up to operating temp or both? How long have you had it and has any work been done by others while in your possession (e.g. mechanically inclined friend changed the spark plugs, etc.) Did you buy it from a prior owner that left it sitting in a field for 20 yrs? etc. At the bottom of every forum page there is a link to Ogre's Cave. He has a lot of articles there that can start to educate you on how the car is put together, common problems, etc. YouTube also has a good many videos showing how to repair this or that.

I forgot to mention that you can also Search for posts that might be relevant to your problem. For example, I did a search of the Technical Discussion & Questions section with the search term "84 SE stall" and selected "entire thread." About 10 pages of hits showed up and here is one that looks interesting:

Thank you, the car will try to stall when in park or not driving even after its been warmed up and driven. You were really close with that guess, actually he drove it into a barn and left it for 20 years. The car has 87k miles. We recently put in a new part, there is a little grommet on the valve cover that we had to replace. There was a little gasket on where it went in there and we replaced it with the closest thing we could find as they do not reproduce it. Will post pics soon. Thank you

If it sat for 20 years I bet the fuel pump is full of varnish/debris. Have you dropped the tank to clean out the old fuel and replace the pump yet?

We have dropped the tank, yes and it was full of junk, we also replaced the pump and shoe.
