Hey all. The stock ACDelco speakers in my '88 coupe are about to bite it, and the stock head unit needs to go for a multitude of reasons. I was originally looking at getting a kit that came with 4 speakers and a head unit like this one but unfortunately all the ones that seem like good units appear to be 6.5" and 6x9" combo packs.

I need help with trying to figure out a pack like this. Anyone have any advice? I'd like to use reasonable quality units, and while the 6.5/6x9's would likely give good/great sound, I feel like mounting would suck. Or hell, are there any other combos that would fit easier?

I didn't realize that Rodney sold speakers other than for the subwoofer enclosure.
I've never heard Rodney's speakers, but it's hard to go wrong.

With that said...
My personal favorite 4x10 is a Pioneer TSA-4103. I have compared them to Kenwood 4x10s, and the Pioneers seem to have much better bass response.
One Fiero fanatic who rode with me even thought I had the Performance Sound (subwoofer) system.

I have thought about trying to adapt 6x9s, but the logistics are a mess. It wouldn't be pretty, to do the way I want.

Edit - Every Fiero I own - or have owned - still has the stock 4x6s in the B pillars. They don't get sun baked, and if they haven't been blown out, they're usually still good.
(I really don't care about having high frequencies blasted into my ears from the sides. The "good" speakers are installed in the front.)

I am using Infinity 4"x6" plate mount speakers in the pillars. I have an Alpine 5"x7" that I put in the dash mounted in a plexiglass plate that I made. It took a bit of modifying of the area of the dash that is still covered by the speaker grills.

I have Alpine 4x6 plates in the sails and Alpine 6x9s in the dash, covered by stock speaker grills. The speakers mount to the underside of the dash openings and modification is needed to the HVAC ductwork for magnet and basket clearance.
It's worth the time and effort.

The Pioneers listed above and their 4x6"s work great with both the premium stock radio unit with factory sub or the upgrade Pontiac Monsoon unit available in the Mall.

6.5 and 6x9s will not work in stock locations without significant modification.

If you don't want factory style speakers in the stock locations this worked great for me. All Polk DB speakers, sound great.

Fiero store has a rear panel that 6.5" mount in..
I'd use this, with seperates, and put the tweeters in the oem spot that used to have the 4x6 in the b pillars.
For sound staging, I'd either run 4x10 in the dash with the tweeter snipped, and add a tweeter in the upper door panel and a crossover , or use the adapter plates, and a 5.25 in the dash and the tweeter in the upper door panel..

The dash speakers fire straight at the windshield making the highs, harsh..

If you move the radio rear mount back an inch give or take you can mount a din sized radio (head unit) flush, instead of it sticking out of the dash ..
